Description
The Dancer Team.If MVC had the equivalent of the Fly Girls, or the Solid Gold Dancers...then I think this is who they'd be.
I was originally going to have this team made up of Spiral, Vanessa Z. Schneider, and Elena.
But as I was trying to draw Spiral's exotic dance,
I was reminded of the old GBC game: Shantae
and decided to use her instead.
(really cute game).

Shantae is not owned by Capcom, Shantae is Wayforward Technologies property, Capcom only helped publish her first game.

It's nice that people want Shantae in Marvel vs. Capcom, but I hate to say that Capcom didn't create Shantae. They only published the game, while WayForward developed it, as well as the games it followed afterwards. I'm sorry for bringing it up, but it sickens me that everyone wants Shantae in Marvel vs. Capcom because of Capcom publishing onlyΒ the first game. Again, I'm sorry.

Who's Spiral?
Vanessa has a big butt (better work it, girl!).
Is Shantae wearing a thong? o_0

I love this.
Shantae in a fighting game would be awesome.
BTW: I am currently trying to find people to make a fan-game that includes Shantae as a playable character.
It will be a 2D Fighting Game.

A WayForward fighter /could/ work. The roster size could be remidied by taking some liberties with characters like Rayne and the Boy and His Blob, but making movesets might be a hassle to deal with.
I'd support it, though.

I am not talking about a WayForward fighter.
But oh well...

Unn. Forget capcom and their franchise backstabbing project cancelling devoted small 3rd party looking for publisher ignoring ways. They had 8 years to back shantae again and they blew it.
What we need is Wayforward VS the Behemoth! Alien hominid and Castle Crashers Versus Shantae and the Krill Empire. (if Namco will lend back the rights to sigma star)

Because they saw Shantae as a failure, due low sales.
And everything that doesn't sell well will be thrown aside.
A severe side-effect of greed.
Why else do you think that Shantae's sequel only made it as download-content?
Because its developers didn't find a company, who was willing to publish it.
They tried to make the sequel a GBA-game before, only to keep getting rejected by the big companies.
Shantae stood in the shadow of the incoming GBA-release, since the GBC was already dying by the point Capcom could be arsed to release it.
Which is why almost nobody noticed it and thus it sold poorly.
Of course a company like Capcom never asks 'Why?'.
They only see that a game sold poorly, it is considered a failure and it will never see the day of light again (at least not by them).
Why it sold poorly and what could've been done to make it sell better, that never crosses their mind even once.
But you can see that their greed has become so large that they even reject THEIR OWN FREAKING MASCOT and only stick to their fighting games.
Because those are their favourite cash-cow.
Mostly due those hardcore-assholes.
That's how it is...

Just to tell you Shantae isn't a Capcom character. She's a Way forward character.

First game as made by WayForward and published by Capcom.
Just like Okami was made by Clover Studios and published by Capcom.
So you can consider her a Capcom girl.
I don't see why people are constantly against calling her a 'Capcom girl'.
But oh well...

Then would you like people to get confused about a character that belongs to another company?

Like I said, Amaterasu also made it into MvC3, despite not being a character that has been made by Capcom.
Okami was only published by Capcom and yet Ammy is considered a Capcom character.
Why wouldn't the same thing work with Shantae?
Considering that her first game has been published by Capcom.

IP ownership is separate from the publisher/developer relationship, though it is a factor in the deals made between them.
Clover was operated as a separate company, but was funded by Capcom, so anything Clover made was technically Capcom's. The specifics would've been in the contract that existed between the two, such as defining who can use which IP. That became moot when Clover closed, and Capcom just took control of everything.
Shantae was created by WayForward, a completely different company, who signed a publishing deal with Capcom. Whatever WayForward created was theirs, unless Capcom made transfer of IP ownership part of the deal, which they obviously didn't due to Risky's Revenge.
Nice pic by the way.

While this is true overall, Clover Studios was still an independant company.
The fact that it was funded by Capcom doesn't matter here.
What they made was theirs and not Capcom's.
They only had a relationship with Capcom, because of the publishing.
'Shantae was created by WayForward, a completely different company, who signed a publishing deal with Capcom. Whatever WayForward created was theirs, unless Capcom made transfer of IP ownership part of the deal, which they obviously didn't due to Risky's Revenge.'
Clover Studios was a different company too. (Once again, they were independant.)
And they did essentially the same thing with their games.
And by the end of day, I also can ask 'What exactly is a Capcom character?'.
I am sure I would get a lot of different replies to that.
Since there are many ways to define it.

That is not accurate. Capcom owns all of the rights to the Okami characters and franchise.
When a publisher funds a game, more often than not they work it out in the contracts that all art, assets and so forth remain the IP of the publishers. Publishers LOOOOVE to own their IP.
I do believe that Shantae is owned by WayForward, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she couldn't be in.
Strider is a pretty good example, as Capcom doesn't really own the rights to him (those belong to Moto Kikaku), but he made it in.
I'd love to see this team in an MVC game

'That is not accurate. Capcom owns all of the rights to the Okami characters and franchise.'
Well now they do. Since Clover Studios has been closed down.
'When a publisher funds a game, more often than not they work it out in the contracts that all art, assets and so forth remain the IP of the publishers. Publishers LOOOOVE to own their IP.'
I dunno anything about that. So I think I will take your word here.
'I do believe that Shantae is owned by WayForward, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she couldn't be in.'
Shantae IS owned by WayForward. You got that right.
But it is very unlikely for her to be in an official VS-game (as much as I want her to).
Of course, if Capcom were willing to support her, she might would have a chance.
But the sad truth is, they aren't.
Since in their eyes, Shantae is a failure. Due the low sales of her GBC-game.
And they are not willing to "waste anymore time" on her.
Sad...
'Strider is a pretty good example, as Capcom doesn't really own the rights to him (those belong to Moto Kikaku), but he made it in.'
But Capcom owns the games that they made about him.
'I'd love to see this team in an MVC game'
D'accord.
But it most likely won't happen.
