Description Had a lot of fun doing this guy......

(pause)

Unlike Skalor, Overbite and Nautilator, I did not have the original to to work from as a reference and had to get his likeness from the internet.
I did look up photos of real snapping turtles for reference too but
DUUUDE!
...these are some of the scariest, ugliest looking animals that God ever put on earth.

To me, his beast mode was very reminiscent of Gamera.
Which made Snappy here really fun to draw.
I didn't want him to look too much like Gamera though,
so I flipped the tusks around and made him into a sabertoothed turtle.
(I know there was a mecha-Godzilla, and a mecha-Kong...but was there ever a mecha-Gamera?)

I suppose it can be said that his beast mode looks like the "Blastoise" Pokemon.
But of course Snaptrap's turtle design is years older than the Pokemon franchise.
Hey! Maybe someone at Nintendo had remembered seeing this guy's beast mode and was influenced to make him into a Pokemon.
(Hmmmm).

Anyway, as I did with the previous 3 Seacons,
I took a few liberties with his robot design,
but I have to say, probably less than the others.
Although I didn't have a physical toy ref to work from,
Snaptrap's robodesign is the most unchanged/less-stylized than the others.
The biggest change I made to his robo-form was his forearms:
In keeping with the sea-faring mariner theme/motif...
I gave him an anchor "tattoo" on each arm 'ala Popeye the Sailor.
(should've put a "heart" with "mom" written in it too)

I really like the way these forearms turned out.
Maybe he can shoot them out with chains attached,
and melee fight with them like MK's Scorpion, or GOW's Kratos.
(Oooooooo!)
I think this would have turned out mostly the same anyway even if I had the toy to work from.

The Seacons have never really been one of my favorite teams,
but when I heard that they were being re-released in a new set,
(which came out a few months ago...shows you how lazy I am)
I thought that I'd like take a crack at them.

Except for Snaptrap, I never liked the way ANY of their robot forms looked.
Dunno what it was....I just thought they were lame.
Their Beast Modes on the other hand were great looking,
and this was the only reason I had bought a few of these guys.

When I did pics of the Preadcons and the Dinobots here on DA,
(check my gallery please)
there were some comments asking about their alternate/beast modes which I never drew.
(I still may in the future, but I just haven't yet).
So I decided to draw both modes at the same time here.

At last you are doing your style art on the Seacons!
I think Gamera and Blastoise is a good example of how Snaptrap/Turtler's design looks.

I like how you kept Snaptrap's toy design which is noticeable but with the additions of your designs in there.
I really dig risk shell shield pads.
The way you altered the shell cannons so they mount on for him to use is a nice idea.

The animal mode is good to see from you as well the robot mode.
Interesting combination idea of snap turtle to have saber tooth fags, kind reminds me of a walrus.
All in all I like what you have done to make Snaptrap's robot and animal form more fearsome.

Such well detailed designs of your own which I really took in interest in after seeing your Dinobots and Predacons fan art.
Can't wait to see them all coloured if you do so and put in together in a wallpaper if you do so!
Great work StryderSyd!

I used to have the original toy of Snaptrap, he wasn't too bad. He's been reissued now with the other Seacons.
