Star wars Galaxy of no order Navy commando lore
Though not as common as the Imperial Storm trooper, the Imperial Navy commandos are just as deadly as their more prominent brethren. The origin for the Imperial Navy Commandos can be traced back to the Clone wars in 22 BBY. During the outbreak, there were plenty of volunteers and human civilians willing to fight against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. These human recruits were given a much simpler type of Clone trooper armor with less armor plating on the upper arms and upper legs to give them a much better range of mobility.
Although the Republic Navy commando rarely saw action in the Clone wars, they were an important forerunner to the modern Imperial Navy commando. Much like the Republic design, the Imperial design didn’t change that drastically, keeping the same shoulder, gauntlet, leg and chest piece as the previous one. However, the one difference between the two was the upgraded helmet. Rather than a Phase 1 clone trooper helmet, these helmets were replaced with an entirely new helmet specifically designed from feedback of Republic Navy commandos.
The helmet was given a much wider visor, almost looking like goggles. The mouthpiece had improved air filtration for better breathing, and the top section of the helmet had an Imperial army officer styled helmet.
With these little changes on the main body armor, the Empire could keep the cost low for the armor, without having to design an entirely new suit, unlike the future Storm trooper armor. On top of this, the armor allowed for a great range of maneuverability and flexibility. Making it much easier to aim down sights, and for sprinting quicker than regular Storm troopers.
The armament of the Navy commando had a wide variety of weapons, but the most standard one seen is the E-11b. In 19 BBY shortly before the end of the Clone wars, Blastech was developing a new blaster rifle for use for the Clone troopers. The E-11b was essentially the first mass produced version of the E-11 to ever see use in the Empire. The “b” stood for burst, as the rifle only had a burst fire mode available, which fired off 3 to 5 red blaster bolts at a target with deadly accuracy.
Other weapons of the Navy commando include the Mb holdout blaster, the Baragwin LS-7 ion rifle for disabling vehicles and incapacitating a large crowd, the FC-1 flechette launcher for close quarters boarding operations, and the Imperial heavy repeater for either suppression or artillery.
Due to the Navy commando’s easy to produce armor, it has also spawned a few variants in its lifetime. Such as the Imperial Navy Flame commando, these soldiers are specialized in flamethrowers and other incendiary based weaponry. Although limited in their use, they inspire fear in their enemies with the hissing of the Oppressor flamethrower, and the raspy breathing of their modified air filters for blocking out smoke and carbon dioxide. Although this is usually a production issue when making the air filters, the raspy breathing it makes is an effective weapon of fear.
Other variants include weather based units such as the Navy jungle commandos with their improved visors for heavy rain and jungle camo, Navy arctic commandos with yellow polarized visors and an all white bodysuit and kama, and the Navy desert commandos with improved air filtration, cooling units and desert camo.
Navy commandos are used mainly as small patrol units in the Outer rim planets such as Felucia, Raxus prime, Yimiri, and Aeridus. They are seen in the core worlds such as Coruscant, Fondor and Commenor, although it is not as common. In combat the Navy commandos would be sent in as support soldiers for Storm troopers on the frontline. Their lighter armor makes them perfect for blitzing enemy fortifications and trenches with ease. With this sort of combat tactic in mind, it makes for an easy take over of Rebel controlled bases and even planets.
Such as one such mission on the Rebel occupied world of Malikon II. In the Operation to liberate it from a group of fanatical Rebels called the “Hundred moons”. The fanatical Rebels seized the once Imperial colony and have been pilfering the planet of its ores. The closest group to respond was the 892nd infantry battalion, stationed on board the Victory II class star destroyer Grey stallion.
Malikon II was a standard lush planet boasting many tropical jungles and forests. However, the Hundred moons Rebel group had dug up in an underground bunker near the colony. The 892nd infantry battalion was deployed with squads of both Storm trooper and Navy commandos. After being deployed by Imperial Dropship Transports from the air and rappelling down to the colony in the thick jungle. The Navy commandos were the first in combat, moving rapidly through the thick vegetation, while the Storm troopers provided covering fire.
The outer perimeter fell in minutes, with only minimal casualties. The Hundred moons weren’t as well trained as the standard Rebel Alliance trooper was, they were almost barbaric and headstrong, with a good portion of them charging at them with vibroswords. With the outer perimeter secured, the entrance to the underground bunker was breached by Navy commandos spearheading the assault, and the Storm troopers following closely behind.
With each gain, the Hundred moons became more desperate, their last resort attack was a suicide charge with some carrying thermal detonaters on their chest. This attempt was all in vain however, as the charging rebels were quickly gunned down by both the Navy commandos and Storm troopers who took positions well before the charge came. With the Colony liberated, the 892nd infantry regiment was awarded the Imperial Medallion of Service by High General Trech Molock, for their service to the Empire.
