Description
I draw fetishes, and even this is just too much. Hahahah-! ...I won't even credit the 'artist' for this. Pooping takes more effort than this. You're welcome for that mental image.
Why the fuck do we even have an 'adopted base' category?

Lol! Looks like you found a way to work the YouTube commenting pattern into a deviation: "1836 people will always suck at drawing" lol.

Lazy fucks wanting to draw well without sweating blood like the rest of us do always come up with ridicilous ways to cheat with their "art" but this thing just seriously takes the cake. You've pretty much nailed it.

I suck too much to even use a base to make anything decent. :V
But I admit, I've edited a pic before to get what I needed out of it. And sometimes, what I need is a semi-accurate picture of what I'm trying to describe. I have no interest in putting the effort or time into learning how to draw decently, so a base or edit... so long as I'm being totally transparent about what I am doing and giving credit to the original artist, doesn't seem SO bad.
But it's still sorta a dick move, right? :/

Saying bases are terrible and shouldn't be allowed. :V

Why learn important basics like anatomy when you can just trace! Silly ST, you're going about it all wrong!!

Sad thing about it, even "professional" comic artists do that more than the industry would care to admit.

It's kind of a gray area, since I can completely understand tracing a 'base' for something like animation, where they're going to have to draw that person a few hundred times in relatively the same pose for just a little bit of movement. I highly doubt any respectable pro artist uses a base for standalone work.

No, I mean. COMIC Artists. Those of Marvel. And not tracing human figures or things from a theater, either. TRACING work from other comics, or sometimes even manga.

This is dA's way of letting people steal art without actually "stealing" art.

I must admit, I used bases when I first created some images of my original characters to explain to people how they looked. At least I said outright that the art was crappy and only meant to be a simple visual aid, but I still cringe about it to this day.

This is more for the people who are 'proud' that they use bases. I get when someone need references or help with anatomy or want to provide a more understandable guide to references, but the few (or many) that skip that whole part have none of my respect.

*grins* Fabulous piece, and such a true sentiment! Real artists don't have to have other people do some of the work for them - it's the artistic equivalent of ghost writing.
Also, i agree with you about the pooping; a lot of the time you get more artistic results, too.

Not even sure if it's a debate on 'real artists' or what could be defined as not. More like... looking at how lazy people can get, and how ridiculously proud they are for making a base (out of much better artwork) for other lazy farts to use.
