Going through my scraps, I found this WIP I'd never finished. It was intended to be a halter-show entry for Zaldi... two years ago. :'D

So now it's been (basically) finished into an entry in the Temptation Monthly All-Breed Show hosted by painted-cowgirl and the AppendixQH group. Background trees were supplied by this reference photo , and the rest of it (wood grain and all) was painted by yours truly.

It's like he knew he hadn't really been looked at in a long time, or at least not like this, and he wanted to make up for all the days in between when people had been looking at things that weren't him. Nobody could really know for sure, of course, since horses can't talk... but even folks who didn't know him, who'd never met him before in their lives, seemed to know when he stepped into the arena that this horse was actively trying to secure their attention. There was faint music playing somewhere, maybe somebody's radio, and the lights were on to showcase the little glimmering highlights in their coats that wouldn't have otherwise been visible under the pavilion-style roof. There was no special fanfare; he wasn't turned loose in the ring by himself, and he was expected to behave with all the other horses lined up for inspection. And yet, watching him, one could almost think that Zaldi was imagining those lights and that music to be just for him, just now, in his hour of triumphant return.

And he loved it.

Required Information: Tamarack Park's King Urrezko (~15 y/o), handled by Anna Carrough (~25 y/o), entering the English Halter class.
