How did you learn the techniques you use like the feathering toward the top. You aren't a tattoo artist by any chance? These would make cool tattoos (little pieces of these massive works)

how many times have i thought of that? i want to design tattoos, but never seem to get around to it..

wow, this looks even better than the other one, and this being a work in progress.... or is it not anymore? lots of time has passed....

i really like th calm, unobtrusive coloring here.... as always, i like the fine details....
i dont think the yellow's overdone, it just needs something to balance it out....

so beautiful....

I have been practicing art for the majority of my life, but I can honestly say that I have never tried doing one of my pieces in ball point pen because I thought it had too many limitations. It is true that ball point has its drawbacks, just like anything else does, though, I find your peices extraordinarily inspiring because for the last 5 months I have been working in ball point and have begun to understand its very expressive linear qualities. I will say that gradation can be very time consuming, and at the same time very rewarding because the finished product turns out very well. I hope you don't mind but "Fragmentia" has now become the background on my computer. One thing that I see in your work which also resonates in mine is the amount of time you put into your peices, and I enjoy that very much; it is very refreshing. The only critique I can think of is to suggest filling your organic designs over the full page instead of leaving that ominous white background, although, if "fragmentia" is just a work in progress forget that remark of mine. Hopefully you won't take it the wrong way that I even made a critique. The only reason that I even feel qualified is because that I'm a graduate student in Art at U of H in Houston, so not only do i critique, I get critiqued, and once I get my work uploaded I would be honored to have you critique it.

i feel bad i didn't reply sooner. at times i'm really slack on visiting dA, was just browsing comments and felt i needed to respond to yours. i do appreciate your words. and don't worry, none are taken the wrong way, and yes my intention was to finish out the sheet. sometimes it seems i just lose inspiration when so much energy has gone into it, i feel i just need to stop and move on. thanks again.

I am quite excited to have stumbled upon your site. All your work is really impressive. You obviously have a great deal of patience. I have to ask-Do you have any formal art education or does this just come naturally?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

strohat In reply to Inter-Aurora [2004-06-16 01:55:50 +0000 UTC]

have patience, heh, i guess my art makes it appear so, but i don't think i do. i don't have any formal art education or training, i think if i did my work would be more successful, more commercially acceptable, maybe. it's been hard to find a way to really make money with my talent, i could maybe sell prints at head shops and stuff, just havn't found my niche.

Inter-Aurora In reply to strohat [2004-06-19 00:37:34 +0000 UTC]

Without a formal education you can be classified as a folk or outsider artist. I have a coworker who has no formal art education and he has been doing what he always thought was doodle art for years. He finally showed his work and got hooked up with some galleries and now they sale his work all over the US.

There is an old saying I will refer you to here:
"Shoot for the moon if you miss at least you'll be among the stars'
