Niiice. Scratch boards are tough. You did better than my first attempt for a scratch board. Who is it a scratch of?

Amazing piece! Love the lighting effect and use of the page in the negative/positive space. I haven't done scratchboard in so long, that I have been itching to get back to doing some. Great job

Such skill! Scratchboard is tricky stuff - takes a lot of forethought cuz it's inverted. that's just my opinion, though. Looks like you're a natural ^_^ great work

I heard a quote once cant remember by who but it was to the extent of " every artist needs some one to stand over their shoulder with a hammer and hit them on the head when the picture is done" I know its hard to know where to stop but simplicity is often the best way to go. as far as i can see it is beautiful and i wouldn't mess with it, unless it was my own then i would mess with it until it was past the point of no return but thats how it goes.

You are allready got done with it and scanned it... wow Dude it took me both class times to get mine done and mine was alot more simplistic than a human face. Any way, good job, i can tell that the scan cant show how much detail and work you put into it because what small part i saw before i left class looked amazing and much better than my finished scratchboard. Leave it the way it is because it looks awsome and you may not like it afterwords, plus why put more work into something if you dont need to
next watercolor

yeah well, i tried adding some background to it, and it doesn't look right, i blacked it out in PS. i'll try to use a micron pen to get rid of it i guess. i like this medium, i want to try another one...

Very nice. I used to love this medium (when I was getting the scratchboards for free at school. ). Wonderful job with the man's wrinkles and veins. One thing is for sure,....you can't go back and fix scratchboard once you've made a mistake. It is a beautiful but also frightening medium.

Leave this piece as it is. The negative space just brings more emphasis to the figure and the hand. You don't need to do the arm to know its there. Trust me, leave it. If you don't believe me, just look at how many of the great artists in history have used pure black as negative space, both in the figure and the background, in pieces very similar to this. From the work I've seen of yours, I'm guessing you might struggle with this a lot - learning when to let go and just let a piece be - because you're so detail orientated. You obviously put so much time into your works of art, but I'm guessing that makes it harder to really know when a piece is truly done.

well, i had to go and mess it up by trying to add background, i'll have to go back now with a micron and try to touch it up.

Holy....thats incredible! I've used scratchboard before and its not easy to get shading like that. O.o
Props for your amazing skill! Might I inquire as to the material you used for the scratching? Was it a razor of some kind or something different?

You are insanely talented at making these illustration projects look very lifelike. Even if nothing is added in the negative area, this still gives the impression of the rest of the man being there... your depth is amazing
