Yep, right click and save as under the folder named patterns (if you use vista its User>.gimp-1.6>patterns)

Well there is a section on your tools (i use GIMP painter so my interface is a bi different)

TElls you how to use pattterns

Essentially select what you want to be filled, click paintubcket and under tool options select pattern fill and choose the pattern youd like, then fill the area
