Description A 3D model version of the assault rifle from mass effect, I think it is from the first game of the series, but I included some thermal clips in the scene to flesh it out a bit.

Took roughly 6 hours, give or take. It was difficult to model since the background images kept moving around and sizing it correctly from the front took some time.

Used 3DS Max, Mental Ray Renderer, Ray Traced Shadows.

Weapon design belongs to Bioware

i thought the point of mass effect weapons was that you dont have to reload them......i mean by the time i was done my pistol was a like a d-eagle with no recoil or heating

To my knowledge heat cells (the ammo) were introduced to speed up combat, in ME1 you had to wait for your weapons to cool down after firing too much, the cells in ME2/3 are supposed to absorb that heat so you can fire for longer without a cool down period, then just reload a cell. Technically you should still be able to fire without the heat cells and just have a cool down, but it is all game mechanics

yeah, but you could allways just change weapons or mod them to cooldown faster.
the first game had so many more options. I liked having SPECTRE grade weapons and armor for all of my team members

When Bioware introduced the thermal clips in Mass Effect 2, I always thinking about one matter: What is the size of standard thermal clips? If its going to be the size just like the one in your art, I (really) doubt if ithey are able to fit inside every firearms in ME universe.
After several hours (maybe several days) of hard thinking and "cracking my head", I think it will be logical if the thermal clips in ME universe are sized from present day AA batteries. Don't you think so?

I think you've got something there. Tbh I was using a screenshot to get the scale as best as possible. It would be rather difficult to find AA sized clips in game if it was logical.

Oh, come on! All those clips in the game are almost the size of tactical flashlight. It would not fit in any firearms in ME. Well except the M-98 Widow and the M-300 Claymore I suppose.

Yeah, the M7 was in Mass Effect. Thermal clips were used for the M8 Avenger in Mass Effect 2. Personally preferred the M7 over the M8. Looks pretty, though. I dig it. Nice job.

would you be willing to share the 3d file? or perhaps take a few angle shots of the gun? i'm planning upon building one of these in the future, and your work would be invaluable.

I can provide some angle shots, how many do you need?
top, side, front, back, etc?
