Description Blargh... This one was quite the pain in the patookie to finish... But I did it.

Again, this is from Mahou Sensei Negima!, and these are two of my favorite characters from the series, Nagase Kaede and Sakurazaki Setsuna.

(There was actually originally a rock underneath Setsuna's feet, but I acccidentally erased it before I started the vector. My mistake...)

As always, done in MS Paint, in about nine or ten hours all together.

Legal crap:
Nagase Kaede, Sakurazaki Setsuna, and Mahou Sensei Negima! are all (c) Akamatsu Ken and Del Rey Publishers.

it's a bitch on my wrists, especially when I work on a piece for three or four hours at a time... but it all pays off in the end.

oh wow, i love it!

btw I've heard many people talk about vectors... what exactly is that?

studentofdust In reply to Voxian [2009-01-15 20:29:20 +0000 UTC]

*launches into explanation mode*
A vector is, in its essence, a full-color, 3D rendering of what used to be a black-and-white, 2D picture. That's the best I can explain it.

hmm that's pretty cool.... how does it work?

studentofdust In reply to Voxian [2009-01-16 13:59:01 +0000 UTC]

erm... I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. what do you mean when you say, "how does it work?"

Voxian In reply to studentofdust [2009-01-18 03:23:34 +0000 UTC]

I mean, like... how do you make vectors? what's the process?

studentofdust In reply to Voxian [2009-01-18 20:56:26 +0000 UTC]

normally, vectors are done with something a tad bit more complex than MS Paint, usually PhotoShop or the like. the coloring is done in layers, then the layers are put together to make the finished product. in MS Paint, though, it's a bit easier and a bit harder at the same time, because it's just coloring over the different sections, but you have to have a steady hand to make sure that you don't do the "vectoring" where you don't want to.

truth be told, what I do is more cel-shading than anything else, but it's close enough to vectoring, eh?

ooh ok so you basically do what i do for my pictures... except you are starting from a different point... I see...

recently I've been doing just as you said, making layers of colors and putting them together to make a picture... except I do it a bit different... I make a base color, then just add layers of masks for the shadows and such... like i have a layer for the line art, then above that is a layer of just the colors, but the next layer is a black and white layer that defines where the shadows should be, which in turn changes the colors of the lower layers... but it doesn't just show through, it just defines the shades...

ya, that's about the same...

lolz, I just didn't know the terms... I just recently got into drawing.. and so I don't really know too much... when you first said vectoring, I thought you took pictures of a charater and made them into a 3d model which you would turn back into a 2d picture... though, I think that's called something else... I just wasn't sure...

Nicely done!

As for MS Paint, I suggest perhaps changing to use something such as the free version of oC
It's what I use and the smoothness, tools, and layers make a big difference
