Description Today was the Day of Silence, and subsequent rally for homosexual rights ensued at our state capitol in Wisconsin.

Participants remained silent, some with physical gags, starting in the morning and persisting through their march up State St. to the Capitol.

Wisconsin is one of I believe 11 states that currently has constitutional amendments concerning gay marriage and other various articles under consideration this coming November.

I try to stay out of taking sides, at least when I'm involved in reporting news, because objectivism and fairness and dedication to the facts and truth are paramount in that instance. But here I feel I must opine, because I feel things are so completely awry that it just needs to be said. How can the United States ever consider a constitutional amendment that would disenfranchise and restrict the rights of a defined and certain people-group? It's blatant discrimination. Our Constitution guarantees the same freedoms to all peoples. They cannot be taken away, they were divinely given. (interesting irony there for the religious motivation behind such bigotry)

The government should not be able to say either way on subject such as this, whether it is right or wrong. For if the majority can disenfranchise a relative minority like this, then it creates precedence for such oppression of the majority, when they no longer are so. The government should neither condone nor condemn anyone for such things. We have truly lost sight of the principles this nation stands for when certain groups have to fight to keep rights, not gain them. Never before have we taken a step backwards in social justice. Never have people in this country been born with rights that the government has taken away for racial, social, or personal qualities.

I find that the oppression of people based upon Sexual Preference is wrong. People like the evil Fred Phelps of Topeka Kansas, and some durainged pastor online (www.truechristian.com) should be taken out personally.

I myself am a Straight guy for gay rights, since I have a friend who is gay...
