Description
Today was the Day of Silence, and subsequent rally for homosexual rights ensued at our state capitol in Wisconsin.Participants remained silent, some with physical gags, starting in the morning and persisting through their march up State St. to the Capitol.
Wisconsin is one of I believe 11 states that currently has constitutional amendments concerning gay marriage and other various articles under consideration this coming November.
I try to stay out of taking sides, at least when I'm involved in reporting news, because objectivism and fairness and dedication to the facts and truth are paramount in that instance. But here I feel I must opine, because I feel things are so completely awry that it just needs to be said. How can the United States ever consider a constitutional amendment that would disenfranchise and restrict the rights of a defined and certain people-group? It's blatant discrimination. Our Constitution guarantees the same freedoms to all peoples. They cannot be taken away, they were divinely given. (interesting irony there for the religious motivation behind such bigotry)
The government should not be able to say either way on subject such as this, whether it is right or wrong. For if the majority can disenfranchise a relative minority like this, then it creates precedence for such oppression of the majority, when they no longer are so. The government should neither condone nor condemn anyone for such things. We have truly lost sight of the principles this nation stands for when certain groups have to fight to keep rights, not gain them. Never before have we taken a step backwards in social justice. Never have people in this country been born with rights that the government has taken away for racial, social, or personal qualities.

It wasn't nearly as big as I thought it was going to be, unfortunately. It still made for some great photos though.
Where is it you'd be coming from?

This photo moved me. Your op-ed piece is so right on many levels. Many Americans forget this country was founded on the rights to be free from persecution no matter what your beliefs are and yet so many Americans are so willing to surrend those rights.
Destroying diversity, tolerance, understanding, and acceptance usually destroys the moral fabric of a country.

thanks. I appreciate constructive, involved thought with a piece like this. And these images received lots of comments but not a whole lot of involved thought.

A very common condition in America now... Don't upset the apple cart because you may have to think about something that doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy and you may have to think how this actually impacts the world around you. If everyone came out of their glass bubbles, they would realize there is so much more to life than the narrow minded teachings of many narrow-minded fools we allow to have power over us.

this is a great, powerful shot-it shows the people that such dangerous amendments would actually affect.
