Whats the difference between Shamisen and the Kokyu?

Well, the main differences are that Kokyu is smaller and is played with a bow (very rare for traditional Japanese music) and is smaller. Shamisen is played with a pick an is plucked. However, they both use cat, dog, or goat skin to cover the front (as oposed to python skin, which is used on Chinese traditional Instruments). I'm not an expert on Japanese music though...
