I APOLOGIZE FOR THE MASSIVE SIZE!
I originally made this at 3050 pixels wide, so you can imagine my disappointment at the detail-loss when I resized it
But...I suppose there's no point if it's so big that half the people can't see it, right?It's Mia from Gyakuten Saiban!
SPOILERS START HERE GUYS
After I got halfway through my sad!fic (animegirlmika.deviantart.com/a… ) I started getting distracted. Then I commissioned for a sad!painting featuring the two. As I worked more on my fic, and thought about what I wanted in the painting, I began imagining everything that's not presented in the games. This picture was born out of how Mia felt when she finally accepted that Diego would never again awaken. God dammit the third game is so fucking sad...fuck. It gets me choked up thinking about it >_< Diego is such a good man!! *sob*

Augh~! I tried so hard on this pic everyone! I made the background myself, but I used a reference image of a hospital hallway I found on Google (of course XD). I looked up so many pictures trying to find sincere expressions of sorrow (it's actually quite hard to find ones that aren't just people with fake tears on their skin).
I learned that...looking at people truly crying, and drawing the same, is really uncomfortable for me. At the same time, I love doing it. But I don't think I could do it if anyone was with me or watching what I was doing. Heh, kind of weird...
The lyrics are from a Bush song called "Out of this World". I love that song, and when I heard it on my iPod at work a couple of days ago, I was instantly reminded of the tragedy surrounding (mini spoilers anyone?) Mia and Diego's relationship.
WHOA MORE SPOILERS I DECIDED
Even though Mia was the one to die, I think...when she finally accepted that Diego would never recover, it was as heartbreaking as if he had died. Then, of course, as we all know, her dying before he woke up, was the ultimate irony...and tragedy...

Anyway, whether you know the characters and story or not, I hope you enjoy this picture, I put a shit-ton of effort into it, seriously =3

The emotion in this is beautiful, I alwyas thought after playing the third game about how torn she must've felt thinking he wouldn't wake up again and when it ends up being the other way around GAH! Just pulls at my heartstrings!

It's an incredibly moving story and the fact that there's still a lot of mystery behind their feelings makes it even more sad. Godot was by far one of my favourite characters by the end of the game.

This is a very emotional and solemn picture for a few different reasons. The girl is placed close to the ground so everything surrounding her seems overwhelming by its size. The hallway is empty. This aspect emphasizes her pain as a problem she must deal with alone. Perhaps a personal problem. Furthermore you can see her feelings by reading her powerful expression. I think this is a strong picture but I admit that I have never played the game.

whoa good face! i am really getting so attached to them drawing them so much. at the end i'll show you all the sketches i did, even the incomprehensibe ones...there's like...50 of them at least... and i never could get this face. it's really the most horrid nightmare of unrequited love....they each get to 'die' multiple times and in the end actually both KNOW that they cant ever have each other. that's probably the worst part. i really love this long view or i mean...ahhh...the composition (that's the word i wanted lol) on this. it really isolates her into the corner...that's a good trick<3
i keep trying to consider it if they could have one moment together afterward what would it look like? it's hard to imagine something that personal, because even when you experience it your mind is hazy <3 i love the little bit of red about her eyes like she cant cry anymore.

Oh thank you thank you~ The expression was actually difficult to do...I'm really glad you noticed the red around her eyes. That was a detail that was really important for me ^^ The weirdest thing is...putting her off to the side wasn't even something I remember planning. It's just like, it HAD to be that way...hmm.

You know, I finished the fourth game today, and I still can't get my mind of the third one, the one about Godot. I don't know if I can ever get over how sad the story is...just hearing the final reminiscence theme gets me all choked up T_T

All of the Ace Attorney games are on the Nintendo DS =3 I highly recommend playing them in order though, if you're thinking about it. Knowing the backstory before playing 3 just makes it so much more powerful by the time you reach the ending...

Well, I tell you, this hugeass tablet that my dad got me for Christmas helps me with digital art like nothing else! I am using the same tools as I always have for digital art (Photoshop 7.0) but I have so much control now that it's like drawing with magic XD (Hooray for "Undo"!).
I did use a technique I asked another artist about (*EiffelArt ) a few months ago, using the gaussian blur tool. I think it gives the picture a really good final touch ^_^ I used a higher blur on the background than I did on the subject.
Overall I just used everything I have learned up to this point, and I think this is my best digital drawing ever =3 The sad part is that I'm still not happy with it because I wanted to draw some medical machines in the hall to make it look more like a hospital, but when I did they were so bad that they stuck out like a sore thumb and ruined the mood XD
