Description
Made in ArtRage 4 using oil brush, palette knife and airbrush tools; 9x12", 300ppi. This painting illustrates John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made." And just who is this "Word"? John 1:14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." (NKJ)This is the first scripture I ever memorized, at age 13, and it has been the cornerstone of my faith ever since.

I love this. It makes me want to stare at it for twenty minutes or more. I know you must have worked hours on this. If there were any corrections, I would make the left side of the picture's fingers stronger. Some how they are not like the left hand. I really value this painting. I think you are talented, and that you caught the light. Are you really through with this painting? I sense that there is more. I don't usually say this, but you are a Christian artist? I know green is around God's throne. I know God is light, and in Him there isΒ no darkness. I believe you caught the light! What about the light that should be reflecting on his face? I don't want to discourage you. I want to encourage you to do more painting. This is special, lovely, and from your heart. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

Thank you! I really appreciate when others think about the work and what it means! I think what you are noticing about the left hand is a lack of "bone shadow" in a couple of the fingers. An oversight, and not likely to be fixed (unless someone requests it in order to purchase a print). You are right that I spent many hours working on this one. I had a very specific picture in my mind of what I wanted, and it took a lot of research of photos of "up lighted" faces to get an idea of how to shade the face to make it look like the light source was coming from the direction of what he is holding in his hands. His face itself does not radiate the light of his glory, that is represented by the halo. I did this because as a piece of art, it needed to have a strong light source and contrast to make it compelling. Hence, his face is lit by the light of Creation. That is the way of it: we see Him because the glory of His creation reflects His light back to Him. And Jesus is the face through which we are able to see God. And what exactly is in his hands? It's titled "All of Time and Space" because He is the author of it all... but is that brilliant ball of light the entirety of the universe as it's known now? or is it the very first atom? I think it works either way.

Thank you for your lengthy explanation. You have it put together in your mind. Thank you for taking the time to explain this piece. I love it. You are a wonderful artist, and I hope to see more of your art. It takes you time, so there won't be many in the next year. There will be another special one, though. I am not prophetic. I believe artists work because they love to create things onto canvas, or however. They love to make things they see with their eyes. I paint, and often I have started 3 times in order to get a simple painting where it should be for me. It is work.Β Thank you, again.

Thank you! I had a look round your gallery and love the old-fashioned portraits the best. They remind me of early American folk art portraits: simple, sweet vignettes of young ladies, couples or families.Β

Thank you! I do know what you mean,Β but it's kind of funny, when I hear "coloring" I think of a box of crayola crayons and a coloring book from my childhood, hehehe. But digital "painting" is often referred to as "coloring" as well. It's just a quirk of being an older American
