I think using a ball point ink pen allows you to make mistakes but make them part of the drawing too! it makes you less precious about your line work and alot looser. you should give it a try, even just scribbling and doodling, its different for everyone but you might find it works for you!
I love detail and as you can tell putting tribal tattoo detail in too, its just fun... trademark maybe? who knows XP
