Description An Italian M13/40 encounters a KV1c on the Eastern Front, 1942.

This took me about six hours all told, all in PSCS1.

I used lots of references for the AFVs but found out the KV1c didn't always have the same gun-mantlet!? So, half-way through working on the KV1 turret I found that little nugget out.

I'm really quite chuffed with this, C&C is encouraged though!

Awesome tank artwork, I didn't know much about the Italian armor assault on the Eastern Front ?

StugMeister In reply to Enrico1946 [2013-11-23 22:51:18 +0000 UTC]

They didn't take part in many armour assaults as such. They didn't have enough armoured vehicles to create dedicated armoured divisions like the Germans did; they used them more like the French as support for the infantry.

Thanks for the thumbs up.

Agreed. Most Russian tanks easily outclassed the poor Italians. Plus the Romanians and Hungarians too!

So true, hopelessly outclassed...
Too bad the tanks the ARMIR had there were even less powerful than the M13, so they should have stayed home. Why bother sending more than 200,000 men halfway across Europe if you can't even equip them properly so they at least have a chance?
Btw, very nice pic! I stand in awe of your technical prowess!

Thanks for the big thumbs up sir.

Agreed on the state of Italian armour. Mussolini's eagerness to impress his German allies sent the Italians to war far too early. The mechanisation of their army was impressive in the 1930s but unfortunately they did it far too early, swamping their ranks with useless tankettes.

Saying that, I did manage to take out a KV1 in Combat Mission with an M13 - well quite a few. I did need to get the KV to turn around to get a few rear shots.

The only thing to do if you're outgunned... pray and try to flank them.

Exactly what is the meaning of the inscription on the turret's side?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StugMeister In reply to history-nerd [2012-11-23 21:01:56 +0000 UTC]

Flanking is the only option.

As for the inscription? If you'd asked me back in 2008 I could have told you - totally forgotten now! Mind you, it's likely to be something along the lines of "For the Motherland" or some variation of that.

Hi, wonderful work. What I really love is the Carro Armato m13/40. While the KV1 is mostly greenish colors, the M13/40 have a lot of elements and details that make it more richers to the eye. Keep it up buddy! =0)

Cheers from Puerto Rico.

Pedro.

У тебя не КВ-1 вышел, а Т-34.

It's look like T-34. Not KV-1

In what way? The chassis is correct, as are the wheels, turret and gun.

GarfID In reply to StugMeister [2011-05-26 16:40:42 +0000 UTC]

Tower and gun. KV-1 have a little different one's.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StugMeister In reply to GarfID [2011-05-27 07:49:11 +0000 UTC]

Really sorry to argue the point but it really does look like a KV1 turret and gun; [link]

It's boxy, with no curves except for underneath the rear of the turret and the gun mantlet has both the bulges either side. Agreed, the gun looks very similar to a T34/76 but then again, it did use the same armament.

The T34/76 had a very curved turret that was very small in comparision to the KV1 [link] the later T34/85, although bigger was still nowhere near as boxy [link]

oh yeah, im seeing it, almost looks like one side of a hatch is in the same place where the cannon is facing and its targeting the M13 I can see the tank running good enough by the photo, but many in it were doomed and ran away if the vehicle let them to cause it gets broken easily from all that exposure.

Actually it has a 47 mm gun good both against tanks and against infantry - of course, it's useless against the KV, if it doesn't it in the rear at point blank.
