Description
One of the first things you see when you enter the museum at York, the high speed Japanese Bullet Train. Note the track wipers near the ground!Related content

I would LOVE to ride one of these trains.
Too bad the United States doesn't have them.

Remarkable thing. I'd love to travel on one of these one day.

The track wipers look like a good solution to the autumn leaf-oil wheelslip problem. I first visited the York museum in 2002, but didn't ride a bullet train 'till 2007. Interesting fact: the nose cones of most bullet trains, including the Series 0 pictured here, were hand made by hammer craftsmen.

The Shinkansen run on their own track, which needs to be heavily maintained. Track wipers make perfect sense.
Another interesting tidbit about the front end of the Type 0: it is often believed that the design was influenced by the forward end of the Douglas DC-8 jet airliner.

That's quite likely, though I suppose a few might prefer to believe it's based on the B707.

Riff Raff class on the most modern Shinkansens are little different from the series 0. My wife and I rode a Series 700 that was just a couple years old, and its interior was all plastic walls and vinyl floors...not much different from the unit on display at York. The green cars (1st class) are much nicer on the new trains though.

You might have confused it with CRH

This is 0-Series Shinkansen 22-141, one of only two of them that are outside Japan. WOW!
I recognized this immediately, they're very distinctive!

I was going to say, I knew the Japanese were very active in developing and running a Bullet Train..I hadn't heard about any from China. It's a sweet looking machine

Hate to sound pedantic Larry, but it's Japanese rather than Chinese, and I think the Japanese would take great exception to being called Chinese
