Funnily, some race called Heansec I designed for some sci-fi-story I wrothe, who are very strong inspired by the vulcans, and they had also some hare like foot in my design (but also eyes with ovally pupils, hare, rabbit, cat, dog or bat ears on the top of there head and fur-stripes all over there forehead). Vulcans, but especially Spock, seemed allways desert-hare-like to me.

The explanation of the tail makes sense this way- and now the big pointy ears do too! Desert jackrabbits use the large ears, with the large surface volume and lots of blood vessels, to vent heat. He's like a kangaroo, almost!

Hmmn... I agree, but without the tail. Too dinosaur-like.

The tail is there for a very good reason. Jumping and running along the desert is easier with long legs, but faceplanting is even easier without a tail for balance.
It can also be used to regulate body temperature, like some mammals do (rats for example).
The tail is not there as a decoration.
