New self portrait I painted as part of a collaboration I am doing with the students in my Color and Design II class I'm teaching! We are going to create a poster with all of our heads in profile view. Lately I've been really inspired by the Valorant promo art style lately and I'm still largely inspired by the art style from Arcane. I feel like this project helped me to articulate what I love about art. Painting something just the way it is, or simply copying from life/reference 1:1 has never excited me. What I feel like is the true source of my creative passion is taking something that is, and turning it into something that could be. Or combining elements from various sources into something completely new! I'm confident that's why I love the fantasy genre so much because that's exactly what fantasy is: taking things from our world and combining or altering them in unique ways! So, in this instance I decided to turn myself into a Cyberpunk Viking. Why? It probably has nothing to do with the fact that I recently watched the Vikings show and have started playing Cyberpunk 2077 again. What inspires you to create?⁠
