"Doctor, Doctor!" You call out to me,
like your life is dangling on the thin bough of a tree.
And though you're sitting at the edge of the gate,
I'll pass on by and leave you to your fate.
"Why?" You ask me, lips gurgling black,
I think I'll explain before I leave, and never come back.
For you see, dear person, knocking on death's door,
I am not interested in the dying anymore.
It's the living I'm after, with their blood pumping fresh,
Not you with your sickness and plague-ridden flesh.
The ones with the beating hearts and bodies full of life,
Are the ones I'll be hunting on this breezy cool night.
Unfortunately for you, though I wear this pretty mask,
I'm not here to give you a sip from my dainty healing flask.
I'm here to watch your tears fall and your body hit the floor,
I'm here to cut your throat until you're not breathing anymore.
So you, dying person, with your eyes so wide and round,
Just be thankful that when the mayhem starts you won't be around.
The ironic thing is, I realize, as I walk away,
That they still call me the Doctor to this very day.
