Description
Paper-thin skinGlassy dark eyes
Limbs so delicate like hummingbird wings
Her shoulderblades are sharp razors
Against the fragile hospital gown
So many 'maybes' fall from her lips
As she watches the outside world
'Maybe I can run like them one day,
Maybe I can sing without cutting off,
Maybe I can have those strong, sunkissed muscles too.'
The blueglass sky so bright outside
The dry things they bring her to eat
The flat, lukewarm water they give her
Her mother's hand on her back
Is all tainted by that clinical tang
But for now she will wait
In her crystal clear
Bone white
Death-scented
Halls filled with pale wraiths
She will wait through the tubes
And the needles
And the pills
She will wait for the last day
The last day they will cut her open
She will wait for the doors to open
So the sun can touch her skin
So her blood will flow hot
So she can spread her wings
So she can remember what color they are
And she will fly
