It's nice artwork and the story it tells is clear and good too, but I have the feeling that Marie is depicted way more evil than she actually is. But still, good artwork.

If that were the case, the Squid Sisters probably wouldn't be a duo. Marie also is pretty responsible. Often at Splatfests, Marie's team represents the responsible choice, while Callie's team is the irresponsible choice. In Europe we had Tidy bedrooms (Marie) vs. Messy bedrooms (Callie) and Japan had Ants (Marie) vs. Grashoppers (Callie). If Marie truly is the responsible Squid Sister, it would explain why she is in team nice, because she does the right things. Callie is a more reckless then Marie and doesn't think before acting, which may cause her to do some things that may or may not be allowed. So, stealing a cookie would't be out of Callie's abilities.

Marie does steel food though. Here is a quote form the European version of Splatoon.
Callie: “Ahh, a campsite! Did you bring the marshmallows?”

Marie: “I, uh, sort of already ate them. Heh...”

However, Marie also treats Callie food on occasion. Callie does ask Marie for money for vending machines and in the European version, Marie even treads Callie fries. Food is one of the Squid Sisters favourite subjects.

Speaking of the European version of Splatoon, Marie seems to be a little less cruel in the European version than the American version. Marie still has her sharp tongue, be in general she's a little more in synch with Callie, a bit more responsible, slightly less annoyed and grumpy and she isn't a sore loser. Callie is nicer too, because she doesn't rub her victories in Marie's face.

haha awesome, I didn't know those details about the Euro Splatfests! I do enjoy their NA banter, though.

I might be blowing it out of proportion, but then again the Squid Sisters may be even more extreme personality-wise than they let on on live TV.
Marie to me is "organized" and "selfish," which is necessary to carry out her devilish devices...ha. ha. ha. Callie isn't clever enough to steal without being caught.

But this pic is when they were kids so maybe people change? maybe not! I'm sure during holidays when their families visited each other they probably got into fights sometimes.

The Squid Sisters dialogue is funnier in the North American version, but they act more natural in the European version. I don't consider one version better than the other, though. The European version, however, is closer to the original Japanese version. The American version did it's own thing and filled the game with puns and internet humour. It does fit the tone of the game.

I think the things Marie says are just words. She acts all cool and nasty, but I think she really does care a whole lot about her cousin. The Squid Sisters have been together for most of their lives and they probably would be lost without the other one around. I also noticed that Callie and Marie act a bit differently in Hero Mode. Callie is more focused and Marie rarely makes mean comments. Also, if you visit them at their studio and keep an eye on them, it seems like they are telling each other jokes and just heaving a good time. It looks like the Squid Sisters are more in sync with each other when they ar not on television. Tv is all just media and entertainment, so maybe their tv personalities are just an act... That may explain why Callie really doesn't know what to say when the teleprompters don't work.

I don't really think that's true though.

Anyway, today we in Europe got an new Splatfest theme about resolutions for 2016. Marie wants to get rich in 2016 and use her money to buy a Great Octoweapon from Sype and wreak havoc in Turf Wars. Callie got a little scared of her.

I didn't even consider hero mode! We would probably get a more accurate glimpse at their true selves in that off-camera situation. I love how light-hearted the dialogue remains, though, with Callie's upside-down radio and all. I'm sure they get along, just have arguments from time to time. A bond forged from childhood friction? Maybe not.

When did the teleprompt fail? Apparently there's a lot of dialogue I have yet to see.

Yeah, Europe always gets more accurate translation. It would be cool to play both versions, but alas region locking. I think NOA's "whacky" localization has helped Nintendo become mainstream American culture in the 80s, and somewhat today.

this new theme is pretty similar to Love vs Money in Japan! Somehow, it seems all the rich people around here are the only ones with time to hit the gym, though...

The Squid Sisters are actually really like siblings. They are each other's best buddies, but get in arguments a lot too.

I like the American version of Splatoon. It is a bit funnier than the Euro version. However, I also like the more down-to-earth Euro version. I don't know which version is the better one, but since the Euro version is closer to the Japanese version, I say they Euro version is the accurate version. A lot of things are written differently in the Euro version, but some traces of the American localisation can be found in the Euro version, though. The Euro version used to have different Splatfest Titles, but since version 2.0, it was changed to match the American version.

I know a lot about Squid Sister quotes. The Teleprompter fail is from Urchin Underpass.

US Callie: “I... Um... Uh... Stay fresh?”

US Marie: “Can somebody please fix the teleprompter?!”

EU Callie: “I... So... Right. Um... Yeah.”

EU Marie: “Can somebody get the cue cards please?!”

You can find most of the Squid Sister quotes on splatoonwiki.org. On every page about a Turf War stage, there is a list of all the Squid Sister quotes from both the Euro and American version. It's fun to read all those quotes and compare them. Sometimes the quotes from the Euro and US version are the same, sometimes they are slightly rewritten, sometimes they are completely different and sometimes they even contradict each-other. It's usually Marie's lines that differ. Also, the Euro Squid Sisters have an unhealthy obsession with fries, even more so than in the American version. Here is just a fraction of American quotes and their European counterpart that involve fries.

US Callie: “The food court makes the best catfish burgers ever!”

US Marie: “Eh, I'm more of a hot dogfish girl myself.”

EU Callie: “The food court here does the most amazing chips!”

EU Marie: “I know! They really are delicious.”

US Callie: “I saw a Super Sea Snail in here the other day!”

US Marie: “I hear they love to eat kelp!”

EU Callie: “I saw chips growing here the other day! I think...”

EU Marie: “I'm pretty sure that was just a dream, Callie.”

US Callie: “Palm trees! Aww, man, now I want coconut ice cream.”
US Marie: “Mmmm. With a slice of octo pie!”

EU Callie: “Palm trees! Now I've got a real craving for coconuts...”
EU Marie: “Just coconuts? I'll stick with chips, thanks.”

US Callie: “The kiosk by the pool sells algae-flavored ice cream!”

US Marie: “That sounds both delicious AND nutritious...”

EU Callie: “The kiosk by the pool sells chip-flavoured ice cream!”

EU Marie: “That sounds both delicious AND healthy...”

US Callie: “After battling, I love to unwind with a cuppa joe!”

US Marie: “Who's Joe?”

EU Callie: “After battling, I love to unwind here with a cuppa!”

EU Marie: “Since when do chips come in a cup?”

Seriously, there are more conversations in the Euro version where they talk about fries. Just look it up. The Splatoon Wiki even has quotes from Splatfest announcements and results. There are also a few data-miners who post on the Wiki, so they also have quotes about unreleased stages. Also, have you ever wondered what Callie would have said if she ever lost a Splatfest (since she never seems to lose)? Well, the Splatoon Wiki knows that too.

Marie: “Scientific method in the hizzouse! Great job, guys.”

Callie: “Well played, science nerds.”

Marie: “A ninja's path...is stained in the ink of her enemies.”

Callie: “Yeah. Real deep, Marie.”

Marie: “And they say nice squids finish last. HA!”
Callie: “Whatevs... At least I'm getting free coal for my barbecue.”

Some new quotes are pretty interesting. We learned at today's Splatfest that Callie likes to get fit in 2016, but some quotes contradict this. Callie apparently also had a part-time job at Piranha Pit, to which Marie responds “You? Physical labour? Don't make me laugh!” in the Euro version and “You can hardly lift a grocery bag!” in the American version. Also, Callie has a "thinking about chips face" in the Euro version. Yes, the Squid Sisters really love fries that much.

haha, thanks! I'll check it out. Maybe the Euro translation team wasn't very creative, thus the repeated mention of fries?

Not really. It was a thing taken over from the Japanese version. In Japan, the Squid Sisters love fries a lot too.

oh, interesting! Wonder why NA changed it? I like fries, too. There's like a common thing there.
