Well the biggest problem in life today is over-simplification. Ever read a book called 'Happiness Is Free?' (The book sure isn't!) It's advice for solving all your problems is to 'just let them go' Sounds nice, but it's a little scant on actual detail for helping you.

So it is we have a love for simple solutions and quick fixes, do we really need them in our pony as well?

We should over-think them, that we may realize the true wisdom in them and not take them at face value.

RD fits, I mean seriously, who is the honest, forthright one? Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy is being a drag (and afraid of dragons.) who says what everypony is thinking? Rainbow Dash. Who insists on loyally dragging her along? Applejack.

So... Spike as loyalty... well he seems to do whatever Twilight commands, no matter what... though rumor has it as soon as he's large enough he'll devour all of Ponyville (Excepting one pony.)
