The M9A1 is a modular infantry fighting vehicle produced by the Sidonous Dynamics to replace the older IFVs designs in service with the Earth Colonial Federation.

The M9 AFV series started it's life as the Sidonian Amphibious Medium Tank, it was one of the entry and the winner of the Next Generation Armored Modular Vehicle competition beating the MAFV-3 wheeled IFV and several other contenders, the M9 is chosen as the primary IFV operated by the Federation's Army and Marine because it fits with doctrines of the UCF, some of which the other contenders isn't fit for.

The M9A1 is armed with various weapons designed by earth-based manufacturers such as the Northrop Grumman 60mm Light-Gas Gun, it is also armed with a 15mm Heavy Machine Gun mounted on an RWS and a .308 coaxial machine gun. This design decision was made to usher in an era of cooperation between the Earth Federation and its Colonial counterpart.

M9A1 is protected by a pair of 'Iron Curtain' High-Power Laser APS and a pair of AESA Radar, it is also protected by 14 smoke grenade launchers and an Urban Warfare Sensor capable of detecting enemies hiding inside buildings or behind walls.

The M9A1 Lee is also equipped with an AI that is as smart as a trained dog, this reduced the crew number to two and provides more space to store ammunition and propellant for the 60mm LGG gun. Gunnery is often done by the AI, but the commander can take over the gunnery control if necessary. The AI equipped to the Lee allow it to operate autonomously as long as the crews stay near to give it orders, the AI can't talk and crews sometime find it comical that it uses text alert to inform the crews that it has refused an order it can't or will not perform.

Several variants of the Lee have been developed such as the basic APC variant, IFV variant, SPAAG variant, SPG variant, and several other variants.

Over the years of it's production, the Earth Colonial Federation has been the main operator of the M9 Lee series with several of its colonies also operating the M9, although in smaller number to it's high price, colonial defense forces often operate M9 Lee alongside the M313 Defender especially those with smaller budgets.

The M9A1 could carry up to 6 Naval Infantry or Strike Force Marines , it is also fully amphibious.

The A1 upgrade removed the missile launchers which takes up space in the turret from the A0 variant, the space is then filled with more ammunitions and better communication system to improve its C&C ability in the field. The upgrade also uprated the engine from 487kW to 596kW, the older ammunition reliant APS system is replaced by the current Laser APS system which could also be used against infantries, something which is considered overkill with the older APS, most of the A0s were upgraded to A1 standard by 2110.

The M9A1 Lee is designed to support troops and tanks in open warfare, and provide cover for less armored transports such as trucks.
