Caravel-Class Interplanetary Destroyer

It is a lightly armored warship with high thrust, allowing it to perform quick interception against interplanetary threats. It is a nuclear fusion powered ship with four large engines mounted on pods, the engine could fire both forward and backwards, allowing the ship to decelerate while keeping its nose pointed toward its targets. The ship is equipped with four external pods to carry extra deuterium/lithium fusion fuel and hydrogen reaction mass for both its engines and proton beam guns, these pods could be ejected in emergencies but are usually kept on as they are expensive to produce. The ship is capable of 1G constant acceleration with a maximum output of 15G for a short duration of time, it is also equipped with magnetic thrust vectoring system to improve maneuverability. The ship is equipped with four large radiators mounted on the engines and two extra radiators mounted on the external pods giving it a rather high heat capacity, the radiators also serve to shield the engines from high-velocity debris and shrapnel. Its crew complement is 15 people, seven officers and eight enlisted, with many of the systems being highly automated and heavy usage of robots to conduct battle repair.

Its main armaments consisted of four medium Particle Accelerator Cannons, these cannons accelerates protons of ionized hydrogen down several hundred meters of circular magnetic track inside the ship to 85% the speed of light (due to length limitation of the magnetic track) before injecting electrons back into the beam as it leaves the barrel to neutralize the charge and reduce de-focusing of the beam. The beam could be steered prior to leaving the barrel at a maximum angle of 20°, allowing it to attack targets within its direct line-of-sight without needing to change its orientation. Each cannon has a firing rate of two seconds per shot at normal power, but could be fired at 0.5 seconds per shot at low power, or ten seconds per shot at high power. The particle accelerators are usually used at a range of 5 light seconds (1.500.000km) and capable of obliterating any unshielded ship in one shot.

Its second most important armaments is the 28 nuclear shaped charge missiles it carries in vertical launch silos. These missile are powered by metallic hydrogen rocket engine capable of constant 1G acceleration with a maximum output of up to 20G at its final sprint. These missiles are used in long-range and short-range engagements where the targets are outside the line-of-sight of the particle accelerator cannons. These missiles are capable of obliterating lightly armored ships with its jet of hyper-velocity tungsten plasma.

The third most important weapon of this ship are its four twin-railgun turrets capable of launching 90kg 200mm penetrators at a maximum velocity of 10km/s, this weapon is complemented by six 30mm point-defense rotary-railguns and are mostly used at short-range engagements within 300km. It is also complemented by a dozen point defense laser batteries for use against missiles and interceptors.

The Command Center is located inside the ship under both dorsal and ventral bridges (that actually functions as observation decks) to protect the crews from rapid decompression, the crew quarters (including food storage and entertainment room) is located after the Command Center and is equipped with three state-of-the-art lavatories and a bathing facility to improve crew comfort on long duration journey. The magazine is located before the Command Center with the nuclear fuel and hydrogen storages flanking it, while the fusion reactor is located at the stern.

Although the ship isn't designed with atmospheric operation in mind, it could withstand a short duration of aerobraking without severely damaging its hull. This ship also carries the standard 20-person lifeboat behind the ventral observation deck, this lifeboat is capable of safely reentering an atmosphere and would glide back to land using a parafoil. The lifeboat has a week worth of food, water, and oxygen provision for 20 person.
