Description
I got some unexpected alone time today and i painted pretty much straight the past six hours....Since i bought and first read Red As Blood by Tanith Lee (10 years ago) I've been inspired to draw/paint pictures to go with the stories. however I've never felt terribly confident with my skill up until now to really try.
Red as Blood was my favorite book until i discovered Wuthering Heights and now it still runs a very close second... i've lost count how many times i've read it.
For those who are unfamiliar, it's a collection of short stories, with twisted and often times morbid versions of well known fairy tales.
This picture was inspired by the title story: Red as Blood... basically... a vampiric Snow White
the stumpy tree has significance but the owl does not... I just thought he sort of belonged there.
also inspired by this stock image: [link] a work of art in its self.

Wow, that's gorgeous!!! And I love the symbols you put into your work. Very archetypal.

Great work I like Your ideas with the frame and the "second background" around
The trees are very ornament-like. The owl is truly very proper here
With her dangerous look, she seems to be the second pair of eyes for the Snowwhite
The princess herself is watchful and beautiful. Femme fatale

Gawd, your pictures are always so creative and lovely. Personally, I adore her long flowing hair...and you did the owl VERY well!
You never cease to amaze me!
Great Job!

Thanks black hair is no easy feat! just tries to look like a hole in the paper... the owl however is a bit skewed... going to try to rephotograph it soon

Thanks I'm glad you like it! It looks 100% better in person ... i can never make the images get from paper to computer without all sorts of inconsistancies :/
I'm thinking about doing another with the same stock, but no idea when, will let you know when it's complete of course
The book you probably read was The black Unicorn... it's a wonderful story there are two other books in the series but i don't think they're as focused on the physical makeup of the unicorn however, i have yet to read the other two as I have had a VERY difficult time getting a hold of them! Tanith Lee is a master!
