With wires in her ears, purring a tune
To block out the unspeaking clamor,
Of gossip, polite greetings, and philosophic debate.

She sways with the same beat, as countless crowds do
To a countless playlist of infinite warbling voices.
Hip hop, country banjo, Beethoven and Brittney
Black marks on a metered page.

Until her jingling keys unlock the front door,
The plugs pop from their fleshy cradles,
While a grape stained shirt joins
A pair of exhaust darkened jeans on the tile floor.

She turns on the spray, the dull hush
Of an audience’s anticipation.
Silent, she steps past the red curtain
To the warm watery spotlight.

Her chocolate brown hair, bejeweled
With a hood of prism shampoo bubbles.
The singer stands on a stage of white,
While the last traces of dust, sink down the drain.

Then, she sings! Her single melody
Beats off the mirror, the wall, pounding the counter,
And sending a jar of toothbrushes crashing to the floor.
As if it was a wild skylark, trapped inside by closed door.

Until it breaks through the small pane of a steamed window,
To soar .
