This drawing of Keira, which I finished in May 2005, is one of the first (if not THE first; I'm not entirely sure) portraits I ever made; since then I have been addicted to drawing celebrities, and Keira is still one of my favourite subjects (she shares a first place with Scarlett Johansson
). It's obvious that I improved a lot over the years, especially on shading. When I first started I hardly used any shading at all, whereas now I spend most of my time working on that particular part and perfecting my technique.
It's also funny to see that the old drawing looks nothing like Keira at all (at least, that's what I think
)...

Would you believe I have started doin this same picture of Keira a few months ago now. I started them stopped kinda got disheartened with it as I think that I got the proportions of her face wrong. Was just using ordinary pencils too and not the best of paper! Ive never used a paper rubber stump thing not really sure how? or cotton buds. Have you any suggestions for me your work is Amazing! x

lol The eyes are so much better! How much time did you spend on each drawing? Also how did you do the hair, it looks amazing!

I don't really remember how much time I spent on both drawings... but I do know that I spent a lot more time on the second one!
I'm really glad that you like the hair, 'cause that's still the hardest part for me. It means a lot! 
When I'm drawing the hair, I usually start by colouring it and smoothing it out, then I add the "shiny" parts with a kneading eraser, and after that I just mess around with it a little bit, adding some fine lines (to make it look like hair) and shading here and there. It's a matter of layers, really.
