Clay Fite
5 yrs old
He was severely burned in a gasoline explosion on Valentine's Day. Clay's being home schooled for kindergarten. But today, therapists from Parkland Hospital in Dallas came to answer students' questions. They explained that even though Clay may not look the same now, he's still the same Clay they knew before.

I've been to a burn unit before, they didn't allow us to see patients, but it was still a very moving experience.

What a hard thing for a kid to have to go through. This is a wonderful photo that shows a wide range of emotions. The parents/teachers look supportive and hopeful, while the students have a wide range of emotions. Some of them look scared, curious, or even bored. Thanks for uploading this!

What really makes this photo powerful, at least to me, are the expressions of the kids. They say a lot about the challenges that Clay has faced, and will face, in his life. I hope those little kids learned something about understanding and accepting someone who is different, because kids can be pretty cruel to those who look "different".
Most of all, this photo says a lot about human resilience. That little guy has probably gone through more than most adults.

Some of the face expressions are just so... real, so powerful. Like the little boy in blue sitting in the front... look at his eyes. Or the boy in the left corner...
I hope this was not a bad experience for Clay.
I pray he treasures life, for it is such a fragile thing.

I love this picture. It has very deep meaning in it. Firstthe understanding of burn victims and what theygo through. Then how most of society revolves around appearence (how skinny, the way you dress, the way you look) and how hard it can be to fit into a world like that. I love this pic and I hope this little guy stays strong.

poor little bugger. they should just let kids like that die at the time they incur their injuries. it would be much kinder than forcing him to go through a lifetime of painful treatments and the misery of looking like he does. life is bad enough even when you have your own face and skin, jeeeez
