About 80 years after the main story/show ends a big evil threatens Equestria. It came from outer-space in the from of a giant black cloud that slowly eats planets alive.

Celestia, had to protect her land.

Luna, couldn't stand by and do nothing as they are her ponies too.

Cadence, wished she didn't have to leave Shining Armor and Flurry Heart but knew she had to help.

And Twilight Sparkle had nothing left to live for after all her friends had already left her.

They believed they could pull every single bit of magic out of them to create a force field. They talked to every unicorn, too tell them they had to take control of the sun and moon, then they took to the castle. They gathered around and started pouring all their magic together, all the unicorn, pegasus, earth pony magic and their life force turning them to stone.

Ever since they've been looked after and cared for in the hopes they'll on day be able to bring them back to life.
