Overkill or not, fire is unpredictable ...so, in my opinion, it works (or not, I wouldn't know for sure since I'm not the artist 
To follow up on what I said: You can't really tell what fire would do (I'd know from personal experience lol). Usually it backfires and causes chaos if need be. What if you had a personality like that? or did something that was irreversible and the consequences were dire? Would the fire take control, worsening situations etc., or submit and die away? Unlikely.
Meaning, you have to be the stronger force and take a hold of life before it drifts too far out of your reach.
I'm not sure but as I look at it close I sense a lot of internal conflict.
