Description Our Grandfather clock needed a clean and service. This is part of the mechanism behind the clock face.
A very complicated bit of kit. Its the real deal German movement and the intricate and complex cogs and wheels were fascinating.

It is what i cannot see that intrigues me the most. We always see the face of something but never really know the driving force behind it. Great shot

Thanks Sarah, know anyone with an old analogue watch?
Would love to do some Macro with the insides of that.

I like the choice to have only parts of it in focus. It draws the eye in but makes you want to see the big pic too.

I love the way light shines off metal. So alive. Great capture of light and fantastic focus.

Thanks again. I'm really surprised how many people have looked and faved this one. It must hold a fascination for many. I love the rich gold tones and the focus was a challenge. Would like to find an old analogue watch and pull it apart and take some pics of the inside. That is micro!

I think it stirs childhood memories for anybody pre-digital watches. Good luck finding a (cheap) watch to pull apart!

DoF is fine for me. This is the best shot of whats hosted, but i kow there is a better image of the face.

Nice shot. I think it would be better though if it was all in focus. Wider DoF would do it justice i reckons.

Lighting is good, all in all good stuff.

Fussy, fussy!
The movement was sitting on the bench in the garage. The lighting was ordinary. Moved the cars out of the shed so the sunlight was shining and reflecting off the concrete floor and also put a neon light on it.
Set up the white balance with the grey card and used a tripod for most of the shots. Thats all the dof I could get. Those cogs are only 1/2" to 1" big.
I used the 100mm Macro lens and I'm pretty close to the movement.
Glad you liked it anyway Jordan.

Wow, you're not kidding about the intricate part .

I like the color of the metal (bronze? copper?) as well as the angle you took the picture at ^^.

Thanks for the fave and comments. The metals uses are gold, bronze and brass, I believe. Most of the cogs are brass.

Wow, nice comparison. I do like the darkness of your black and white shot.
Thanks for the comments and fave. Love your gallery, like the darker perspective. Interesting.
