THUD
The large book tumbled onto the ground from the man's lap, pages filled with symbols folding haphazardly over each other. Moon rose suddenly, panting, a wild expression crossed his face. The crowd around him took a step back, unsure what to expect.
"I remember" He muttered
The memories flashed one after the other, intertwined. His brother, the city. The rainforest's inhabitants. The humans, the mining. The destruction...Rain's anger. That anger resonated within Moon the most. It was the whole reason he had tethered his brother down and locked them both inside the temple. But now Rain had become unleashed...how could he have forgotten? So stupid, so foolish. He was meant to stop this whole mess from even happening in the first place.
"The stories, the legends...they weren't true...I made them up." Moon began explaining to no one in particular, or maybe just to himself, to make sure the gears in his mind were properly turning. "I-I wanted to protect Rain so much I made sure to take the burden of the Bad God. Of the trickster, of the one that had to be punished. I changed the songs, I shifted the paintings, I made sure history would paint me as a villain so no one would enter this cursed place..." He shifted positions, meeting Raya's eyes in the process "...but you still believed, didn't you?" The okapi's face lit up, elated.
"Well now that that's settled, we can finally get to whole reason while we're here." Ian spoke up, adjusting his glasses, approaching the newly awoken god. "Moon, I'm going to need-"
"NO! ENOUGH" Moon interrupted, his blue eyes glowing. "This is so much bigger than you, than Rudy, than anyone else in this room...this is between my brother and me..." The planters began to shake, the grow lights flickering. Moon's form was beginning to change, much to everyone's surprise. A snout protruded from his face as he multiplied in size, elongating, changing his stance to a quadruped one. His once tan skin became covered in brown fur. The rest of the crowd had began dispersing, trying to avoid the swishes of the now titanic sized tail and limbs.
The Shadow Dragon showed his true form. Raya's eyes filled with tears. It was true, it was happening.
As Moon faced the broken heart-shaped window and the uncontrollable storm outside, he let out a powerful roar. The sound was so intense, many covered their ears or cowered. But for Raya the roar was a battle cry, a summons. The roar stirred something deep inside of her, rallying her instinctively by the dragon's side. Without thinking twice she rushed towards Moon, who was ready to take flight out the window. And at the last moment she held onto him as he plummeted out into the maelstrom above the city.
Rain and wind buffeted her face, but she held on tightly. Her ears popped and her heart dropped as the dragon maneuvered swiftly amidst the thunderclouds, his brother's beating wings sending gusts ever which way. With an iron grip on Moon's mane, Raya dared take a peek at the view below: Rosado Del Sur's skyscrapers barely scratched the surface of the cloud cover, dashes of fire and lightning peppered the city streets. Despite the dangerous view, the okapi did not feel fear anymore...
Maybe land animals were meant to fly, after all.
