Description Hope this works.

The picture taken wasn't the best quality it has to be said, I just hope it isn't too god awful.

Anyway, I spotted this still on account and fell in love with it. Changed the pool cue slightly so you could tell it was a pool cue XD

Thank you. He's incredibly frightening in that scene. The 'make it quick' statement was just perfect. He seemed to give everyone choices regarding life and death...wicked and dangerously clever.

hmmm, for me the most frightening scene was when he was provoking Batman in the interrogation scene, how easily he manipulated his emotions and there was a fair bit of truth in what he was saying. I suppose in some respects he's a little like Two-Face, there's always a 50-50 chance of survival

I suppose Two Face's coin flip made the decision for him, but the Joker pretty much used choices to create chaos and manipulate people into his way of thinking but yeah..you get a choice -one will die, one will live. The choices were Rachel or Harvey, criminals or (supposedly) upstanding citizens (the boat), kill one man, save the sick in hospital, kill the joker and save Gotham from death and chaos (break your one rule). The Joker forced others to make those choices, instead of choosing himself.

FallenGeniusYamiko, has a nice ring to it

If I didn't have photoshop there'd be a lot of dark blurry images on here. People would comment with 'Hey, nice rendering of the blob...what is it?'

MrsJ In reply to sullen-skrewt [2008-09-17 22:50:16 +0000 UTC]

Ahaha it's true.

The funny thing is the writers who work for Batman don't see anything but a sick grotesque character. Isn't it weird how we all managed to fall in love regardless to what the writers intended.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sullen-skrewt In reply to MrsJ [2008-09-19 11:15:11 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, that's quite true. Funnily the same thing happens with Rorschach in Watchmen. Alan Moore apparently has said that he couldn't understand why his right wing psycho vigilante would be as popular as he is XD. I think these characters can draw some empathy from people, doing some extreme things that some people might sometimes wish they could do. Similar to the film Falling Down, where our 'hero' goes around causing chaos and cutting through the BS...he shouldn't have been sympathetic as he was a danger, but he was because it touched a rebellious nerve in the audience.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrsJ In reply to sullen-skrewt [2008-09-19 14:34:33 +0000 UTC]

That is true. But, for some reason Alan Moore's writing makes his characters always feel like they are justified for their actions. I don't know why, but I get that feeling when reading his works, especially in the Killing Joke.
I hope the Watchmen movie is as great as the book.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sullen-skrewt In reply to MrsJ [2008-09-19 15:20:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I get that when I read his stuff too. I suppose it's there to challenge your views. Everything isn't black and white and the amount of interesting psychology he gives to his characters makes you realise that it's not so easy to bunch personalities into simplified categories of right and wrong.

The Killing Joke is a case in point. The Joker commits evil acts but at the end Batman feels some sympathy. I think most people know that there is a deep rooted cause to some disorders and the Joker's backstory (possibly true, but might not be) makes the reader feel somewhat sympathetic too, without condoning his actions. You may not agree with what he does, but you may understand what drove him to it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrsJ In reply to sullen-skrewt [2008-09-19 22:57:37 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! I don't have much more to add. You said everything I think about Moore's writing and the fact that if a villain can be made more human you start to appreciate them more. I once heard that what makes for a good villain is the fact that he thinks he is being the hero.
