Fire is notoriously difficult to get right, and I think you got it right., MAN this puts all my stuff to shame. Also, that is a very unhuggable outfit. I would not try to hug this woman. It would hurt Β

Real masterpiece. The colouring is stunning. But before I looked at the original lineart, I thought she has long hair

Gorgeous work. I love it-you don't usually see a lot of Rachel (Jean's my favorite character, but I like Rachel too).

This is a very nice piece. I've always like the Rachel Summer's Phoenix more than Jean Grey.

You did an amazing job coloring her, all things considered. I like how the painting of the hair, nails, and face make her look like a woman out of a French or Renaissance painting, which the original linework doesn't really capture as well. Some of the details you painted (e.g. the nails) were also not drawn in the original linework, so you deserve a lot of credit for adding in missing details that are crucial to the perception of the picture, as well as making corrections here and there.
I think some of your dissatisfaction with the flames is coming from the saturation of the colors being too similar and as bold as the same color set on her costume, and that the two are somewhat indistinguishable. Lighter yellow tones, some whites, and even some blues (blue being the hottest part of a flame) flowing off of her body within the yellow parts of the flames to help brighten the luminance of the flames a bit (which are sort of a light source on their own, I guess) might help with that. I remember seeing an X-Men cover with Rachel on it, and the flames were colored as being bright blue/white. In that cover, the rest of her body was not as brightly colored because the brightly-lit Phoenix created a greater contrast in the picture.

Marvel girl In Excalibur was always one of my favorite times for her- You definitely did a great job on catchin' her emotion and body language... those flames came out super! well worth the aforementioned 48 years.
