bloody great, I see a few of these nebulae and think I'd like em but the inherent darkness puts me off. You've done good.

Ok.. I fav'd it. I had to. So, here's the comment.
Technically, this is just great. I have no idea where to begin making a Nebula, but it's definitely something I'd love to learn. I can think of no better inspiration than this piece. Funny thing is, when I saw it, I didn't feel anger at all, but warm and cosy. It made me feel safe, despite the vast abyss that is space. I can see the "lava flows" that look like an angry volcano, and these definitely inspire anger. But overall, I felt like I was looking at a warm African sunset. It borders on illustrative, without being remotely "cheesy" like some nebula pics. This is refined, clean and beautiful. Wonderful work.

It is an amazing picture. The only issue i have with it is that the left top corner kind of gets away from the rest of the picture.
beautifully done.

Lots and lots of brushing with 2 round brushes that come with photoshop, one blurry one with a hard edge and occasional smudging with a hard edged brush

above is a link to something i did in about 20 minutes that kinda came out with a nebula type look.. didnt put much effort intot it as can be seen, and i dont have a wocam tablet or know much about brushes in photoshop.. lots of blur and smudge tools.. i like those. oh yeh thats my other devart account in case you were wondering why its a different name.. any pointers?

There is one thing I dont like: Its that all large stars have a cross-lensflare only the middle light source has only a horizontal lensflare. Thats not realistic, cuz the lensflares have to be the same on one image because they are only light reflects.
Apart from that, its very nice. Again a beatiful piece from you. I love the depth and especially the clouds that are behind some others. Just beautiful. Very good job, Sam!

Oh ok. Was never sure of that. But I remember seeing 2 different sorts of flares in one of Hameeds work and thats why I thought it was correct.

Well, as far as I know there can be different diffraction effects if the distance and brightness of those light sources are very different, but we should contact an expert before taking any conclusion..... would sirgerg know about that?

I think your deffiantely improving, i haven't been particularly keen on this kind of thing. But the extra detail your you've worked into this has given it a great deal of depth that makes it look very realistic indeed. well done.

ooh
I'm finding this very interesting, especially as I know nothing about digital art
I love the colours. This picture reminds me of a book my father had of space. When I was younger I was absolutely petrified of these kind of pictures (no clown phobia, but I was scared of supernovas(?), talk about childhood traumas!) I know this is not really a comment on your work, just an association I had with this picture when I saw it, but I did say I know nothing about digital art!

sumopiggy In reply to pebaline [2004-12-16 11:20:34 +0000 UTC]
hehe thanks
How could you be scare of things like that? This is a nebula (plural nebulae), just gases and space dust etc built up and lit by stars. A supernova is when a star explodes, lol, spose I can see why you were a bit insecure.

Uh well, this is the same girl who was petrified that when her appendix would burst, it would explode inside her (age 8)
Come to think about it, I've come out if it quite well in the end as a normal, stable adult..... yeah right!
