Warm up sketch~ My OTP babbis, just lookit them~ (even though it's just a shitty quick sketch aha)

Yoruichi always keeps an eye on Soi when they're cuddling cause she loves looking at that adorable face. Soi usually keeps her gaze away because she often can't quite believe Yoruichi is real, it's almost overwhelming~

So, YoruSoi. Why do I love it so? Not fanservice by a longshot...It has a little to do with latching onto any lesbian subtext or maintext because we’re so damn underrepresented in legitimate characters it is depressing

I tried to articulate why people being adamantly against either of these characters being gay and degrading the ship as fanservice is wrong and rude toward gay people but I have way to much anger toward that attitude that I can't get it out properly.

So! back to my point, I definitely feel that Yoruichi and Soi Fon are soulmates. I’ve got quite a few OTPs but they’re one of the few that I feel belong with each other on a deeply spiritual level.

But why? Well…. As my headcanon dictates, since these two were part of the very few canon characters I cared about enough to look in depth into (aha)… Strap in for some exhausted ramblings haha, this proobably doesn't make sense at times? idk bro

Soi Fon is a very standoffish individual, but she wasn’t always that way. Serious, yes, but never as she is. She rejects relationships on a personal level because she knows there’s not really a point; no one would ever really understand her. Her drive, the pressure of being a noble and the captain of two entities, division 2 and the stealth force. The fact that she is a minority in the captain’s council, with only one other female (and, as far as she knew, one with a non combat role)

And, though most don’t really realize it, being a lady at the top of a military organization is tough as shit. You’re either soft, a slut, or a bitch, there is no in-between for idle gossip among the enlisted. So Soi chose bitch, and suffers the unique loneliness of being a minority in a position of authority. Respected, feared, but you know no one really likes you as a person. No one really understands.

On top of that, Soi is proud of who she is and what she has accomplished. There’s no way in hell she wants to ‘belong’ to someone, she definitely doesn’t want to stoop or share her life with someone that will want to possess her and her status as an object or as some power fantasy; even if they loved her so she would lose a piece of her pride and her person by giving herself away. And so she remains, distant and unforgiving.

But. But Yoruichi understood perfectly. Yoruichi was the exact same, a noble and a female captain with every bit the same loneliness begat from her pride and status. Certainly Yoruichi expressed it differently, but not even Byakuya could really understand her. Until Soi Fon comes under her wing, and she finally has someone that gets it, gets her.

See, Yoruichi is a very open and flirtatious individual, but you can see her pride and her seriousness as well. Though she was forced to leave SS, she never really lost that edge to her.

And her loneliness is a little different from Soi’s. People see Soi as a frigid stone woman… For Yoruichi, she is either feared, respected, or wanted for her looks, and she knows to play it to her advantage. And at one point during her exile, she thought she had found someone to ease her loneliness in Urahara… but.

Best friends was all he could offer her, not even he could really understand and fill the hole left where Soi once occupied. He got her at face value, and they were fantastic as partners, but he couldn’t reach her most visceral places. To him, she would always be a powerful ally and best friend, but he isn’t the type to go much deeper than that especially when his focus is on his own inventions and plans. So Yoruichi was content to be a bro, so to speak.

With Soi, Yoruichi could let down her defenses, all her flirtatious pretenses and her hardness. Soi Fon gave her someone she could be vulnerable towards, for once, someone who saw past the pride and beauty. Soi Fon respected Yoruichi, but never feared, and never objectified (even if she really, really wanted to see her naked), and loved Yoru for everything, flaws and vulnerabilities and all. It was just a small matter of forgiving her for leaving.

And with Yoruichi, Soi Fon gets a true partner and equal. Not someone who wants to possess her or dominate her, not someone that will selfishly gain something besides a lover from her, but someone who truly understands her and with whom she can grow alongside, not wither under. Yoruichi will never want or need to claim Soi Fon’s status, and doesn’t want something from her besides a partner, and that is exactly what Soi has been looking for her whole life. Someone to share with~

That’s why Soi is so ridiculous around and aboutYoruichi, she recognizes all the potential their relationship has for her, and has a large weakness for Yoru… one she believes she hides well, but since she’s never been in love besides Yoru OR had any sort of deep personal relationship with anyone else, so she has no idea how much it shows. (Yoru, being a bit more experienced with personal relationships, has more of a handle on herself haha)

So, their relationship is a slow build, definitely. Yoruichi is much more gentle with Soi (not without a healthy dose of teasing, of course) than anyone else she has ever been around because she understands the hesitation; Yoruichi could have just as easily become as closed off as Soi. And it takes a while for Soi to both relax and forgive, but she obviously doesn’t have a terrible amount of willpower when it comes to Yoru.

And when they finally do break down each other’s individual walls and begin to be more open with their love for each other, the duo become rather infamous throughout SS as one powerful couple~

SO it’s not about the ‘hawt lesbians makin out’ ya beezies, it’s about the epic, pASIONATE ROMANCE
