Inktober day 13!
Of Captain Commander Sir Merek Facoun, the third commander in my Bleach AU and Commander Moto’s hand-picked successor, formerly the captain of the 6th Division before Commander Moto disappeared during the Second Quincy War, or the Whiskey War. He took her place and came into the position well respected and established as a leader, despite some concerns about his low-key obsession with the incident that created the first Visords during the First Quincy War. Following an unplanned tradition, Merek possessed the strongest water type Zanpakuto in recorded history.
Merek led the Gotei though the Whiskey War with minimal casualty, and led them into war with the Arrancar- starting the Moonlit War against the wishes of his advisors. The war polarized opinion of him among Shinigami, and though they won the war, the opinions of him lingered during the surprising period of peace that followed the war. This escalated until Merek began publicly punishing dissenters, most famously exiling a group of Shinigami for ‘disrupting the peace’ (Jo’s group, who were changed into Visored by the 12th’s captain- this part of the ‘incident’ was kept under wraps). His change of heart and newfound penchant for torture was due to infection by a parasitic hollow known later as La Sombra, however no one else knew this until his death. A month prior to that, the majority of the captains planned a coup to remove him from power. That month included numerous Shinigami infections and deaths, the destruction of several division grounds, and finally, the Big Bang- the catastrophic climax of the coup involving the infected Merek’s attempt to release his Bankai.
The infected Merek, in the ensuing battle, kills his 6th Division successor, Seraph, three lieutenants and the 13th Division Captain Manaan, maims the 7th Division Captain Yolotli and her lieutenant Jo, and is finally taken down by his son, Merek II.
He’s colloquially known as The Lion of the Seireitei and his legacy is his son, 6th Division Captian Merek II and his adopted daughter and successor, former 3rd Division Captain Regan. His history is taught as he was before his infection, to preserve the legend~
