I've decided to finally start posting up a few of these. They are spreads from the book I made for my thesis project, but then tweaked a little to double as a simple, basic species ref sheets.I made a bestiary book, so there are other spreads I'll be posting up soon as well! Unfortunately, I did not have the time to fit all of my species, so none of the very large dragons were included (also being that all of them are nearly extinct). Most were species of lesser intelligence, but I included the Diers just cause.

This is the first of the two new species I created while making the book!
Bhava! They are small lizardy dragon things, with the cutest dumb faces ever. I just love these guys so much.

First of all, the generell impression of this is very good. The painted drawing is of course an eye catcher, especially the head area which you positioned in the middle of the picture.
The shading gives a very plastic look to the creature to a point where it almost seems touchable.
The sketches look pretty awesome as well and make a very nice addition to the page and give it this "old explorer's book" appearance.
Overally, you managed a great mix of realism and your own style, which makes the picture really interesting to look at.
The information provided is interesting and the concept of the creatures livestyle seems plausible to me.
I actually don't have a lot to criticize, except for two things.
The creature looks way to massive for a "small" animal, at least in my opinion. When I saw it, I imagined it to be at least the size of a full grown crocodile. The massive and long neck doesn't seem a little bit too much for this creature and I actually can't imagine that it could support itself with it outside of the water.
The hanging chaps on it's muzzle also remind me of a much larger animal, like a bear or a large dog.
The second thing that I think could be improved are the shaded areas of the dragon. It's missing some backlight here. It looks as if the animal is being illuminated from the side by a setting sun, and so there would either be some blueish backlight from the sky or bounce light from an object behind it. In my opinion, a soft blue backlight would work perfectly to shape the shaded areas more and balance the overally monotonous color-scheme a little.
Otherwise, it's an excellent work! I honestly can't wait to see more of these book-pages!

This is a really nice design, I like how the head looks a bit like a lion and the scales don't completely cover the body in a distracting matter. It's also looks rather cute all chubby like that.

You don't need a soul, but make sure you wear lots of protective gear when handling them in order to avoid being impaled by their pricklies!
