I suggest you draw real people. I'm not sure, but I think real people are wanted more in a portfolio rather than fan art. Or at least your own person; someone in your head. Drawing from life is important in a portfolio, I think~
Although, this depends on what the portfolio is for. But I think you're safe with real-life drawings in any portfolio.
But this came out nice.
