Description
I have recently become obssessed with the AMAZING webcomic, "Romantically Apocalyptic," so I thought that I'd try my hand at some fan art. I initially wanted to draw my favorite character, Snippy, but due to numerous past attempts at recreating a plethora of different characters, I have learned to shy away from the creations of other people. So, instead of butchering Snippy, I just created an OC, whom I decided as of one minute ago to call "Scout." Y'all enjoy!P.S: You can read "Romantically Apocalyptic" by Vitaly S. Alexius here: [link]

Love the umbrella!!
As a fellow follower of Captainia, I applaud you! (me and my friend are working on a fanfic with our own OCs.

Thanks for the comment! I actually do have a duck umbrella like that... I named it Daedalus, but that's beside the point! XD
Anyways, as for techniques... I almost always put a noise layer above my drawings; it gives them a grittier, more natural feel. I recommend this great tutorial as to how to do that: [link]
I also used this neat tutorial by Alexius himself for making clouds (it's about mid-way down on the page): [link]
One last thing that I tend to do with painting in Photoshop is that I draw the person (I almost never draw anything without a person in it somewhere) on a single layer (my backgrounds are generally multi-layered, though). I'll start with the rough, easier parts, like legs and stuff, then I progressively draw over that and add shading. Again, it gives everything a more unified, natural feel. However, I am a paranoid freak when it comes to these things, so I'll constantly duplicate my layers so that I have back up copies in case I do something wrong! XD
Anyways, nice hearing from a fellow minion of Zee Captain, and I wish you guys the best of luck on your fanfic!

That's awesome. I want a duck umbrella.
Ooh, awesome! Thanks so much!
I saw his tutorial, and I made a rainy scene using it: [link]
I like your technique, and when I work a have a tendency to back things up, too. I usually draw my characters using pen and ink, then I colour and shade using my tablet on my laptop. I love gimp SO much!
Thanks! Good luck on your projects!
