Fantastic shot of the hummer. I've become with photographing them in season and freezing them in flight.

Amazing shot. For me, taking a clear picture of one even at a bird feeder is hard. Their wing just move so darn fast...and they flit around so quickly. I'm actually working on drawing hummingbirds right now, and looking at your pic has really helped me work out the anatomy for its tail.

So . . you had to change the ISO setting to 400, right?
What else did you have to do to catch the motion like this?

I have a new camera and am taking massive amounts of pictures, but I couldn't figure out how to get the hummingbirds to look like this.

Thanks...I took that one with a Canon point and shoot camera before I got my DSLR, I was surprised at how good that little camera did.

Thanks Sirrah! Really that's an old one from last year I just did an update on it. I haven't been successful with a good one yet this year...I'll keep trying though!

AndromedaII In reply to sunflowervlg [2009-05-19 19:41:40 +0000 UTC]

I don't even see them around here. Do they have special feeders, or just feed off of flowers..I think I read that somewhere...maybe sunflowers!!! hehe

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sunflowervlg In reply to AndromedaII [2009-05-19 21:35:47 +0000 UTC]

They do have special feeders. They eat nectar. 4 to 1 water and sugar. Here's a link [link] Just in case your interested.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AndromedaII In reply to sunflowervlg [2009-05-19 21:47:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, I wouldn't know where to put it, and what kind of feeder...I bookmarked the link. I don't think we can afford any more than we're doing... And I'm not getting shots anyway.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sunflowervlg In reply to AndromedaII [2009-05-20 01:28:03 +0000 UTC]

If you ever want too...it's very inexpensive. The feeders can be under $10 and the food you make yourself with sugar & water.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AndromedaII In reply to sunflowervlg [2009-05-20 13:26:24 +0000 UTC]

Where does the nectar some from..just sugar and water? That sounds like fun..I have to check to see where they sell the feeders. thanks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sunflowervlg In reply to AndromedaII [2009-05-21 01:08:52 +0000 UTC]

I usually boil 2 cups of water and then add a 1/2 of sugar and stir it till it's dissolved, let it cool and your ready to put it in the feeder.
