Description
We're all gonna ignore how late this is,and the fact that I owe two more after this, and just marvel at this new art by PhoenixCreed , who coincidentally, also tagged me and requested this character.Since she's finally gotten noticed and signed by a major MMA organisation, it's high time for her to redesign her fight gear. Goodbye mix n match, hello color coordination!
So let's get started!
Simone Waterson
Age: 19
Height: 5'8
Competes at: 135, 145 lbs
1: She was born in raised in various parts of south Los Angeles, California and is the middle of 3 siblings.
2: Simone's been in some kind of combat sport for nearly all her life. Her mother was a pro boxer who made a pivot to MMA towards the end of her career, and so Simone grew up punching and kicking. She was a well decorated amateur in Muay Thai and Boxing.
3: Simone prefers kickboxing to either MMA or boxing, but its relative unpopularity makes that difficult to pursue in the US. The result is an MMA fighter looking to launch her boxing career soon.
4: For all her bluster, she's a martial artist in the traditional sense and prefers sparring and trading/learning techniques and tactics over actual competition. Simone enjoys doing and seeing cool and exciting things rather than winning by any means necessary, much to the consternation of her coaches
5: Simone has earned two nicknames from her mother and dislikes both of them. Her lethargy early on in training and fights has earned her the nickname "Sleepy," while her fluid movement and acerbic tongue led to her mom referring to her as "Slick." Given the choice she'd rather ditch them both and come up with her own, but she's yet to be struck by inspiration
6: Her parents were unhappy with her insistence on turning pro while in college. She's currently a sophomore at a major Southern California university, studying physics. She hopes to use her degree for... something... eventually. Most of her teachers and classmates are unaware of her income source
7: Simone and her mother disagree on the former's post fight celebration. Simone's been known to dance after stoppage victories. Her mom finds it tacky, but can't technically stop her daughter from doing some new dance move each time she ends a fight early.
8: She has decidedly ambivalent feelings about her place in the gym. On one hand, she's the daughter of the co-founder and will never be "just one of the fighters." She dislikes that attention and expectation but is aware the special attention is helping her improve faster.

Very cool. We get to learn a little more about Simone. I knew she was into other sports but never thought she'd want to master boxing. follow in her mothers foot steps in that category.
There's a part of me that really understands wanting to be your own person and escape from beneath her parents shadow but still there must be fighters in her gym that would love to have boxing legend like Simone's mom as their mentor.
Fun facts, thanks for sharing.

Simone likes fighting on a deep, intellectual level. I think she'd train any martial art she could get consistent competition in. MMA and Boxing are popular, so it'll be easiest to train and compete there. But anyone with the right invitation could get her interested.
I think she'd prefer to avoid the inevitable comparisons to her mom, but some things can't be helped

haha. I like how you worded that. "But anyone with the right invitation could get her interested."
saying, "I never thought she'd want to master boxing" was perhaps too extreme. given what we've seen so far she prefers striking so boxing would be more her direction. Gotta wonder though if she'd find the restrictions boring after a while.

Haha, exactly. Given the right setup your might very well her in a karate gi, or training wushu or Tae Kwon Do, or trying to learn someone's esoteric kung fu style.
None of those are likely, but who really knows?

#4 - Most opponents are going to be more interested in that "by any means necessary" approach, so I can see why her coaches feel that might be a problem.
#5 - The background on the nicknames is interesting, but all I took from this one is that I shudder to think what she might come up with when left to her own devices.
#6 - I don't think her approach to school has anything to do with her MMA activities. I knew a lot of people in college whose detailed life plan was to do "something" when they got out of school.
#7 - Another one I can generalize. As a parent, I can't tell you how hard it is to watch your children grow and not think, I know you're spreading your wings, exploring the world and trying to find yourself... but YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!!
#8 - Been there, done that. No one really likes to be the teacher's kid... even if it does give them a leg up.
Overall, this is a handy little guide that - despite its brevity - reveals quite a bit of what goes into Simone's character.
Oh, and do I have to say how much I love PhoenixCreed 's work, or is that just understood now? Probably I should say it, just for the sake of completeness.

Haha yeah, I was hyped when I saw this new look for her. I love the patterns on her.
These 8 fact challenges are fun for fleshing out characters without having to explain all of these traits and thoughts in story. It's a little like cheating, but also helpful to establish/flesh out characters all at once.
I'm glad these answers illuminated Simone's thoughts for you. If she's signed to a big fancy organization and got a new set of threads, maybe a new nickname is in order too?
