Description
Shelby and Jake were out in the Nevada wilderness, Shelby riding Tea Time Terror and Jake on Scarlet. The sunset was lovely and the land was beautiful, in a rugged sort of way. It was worth the hours and hours of traveling even if just for this view. One thing was sure, they were far, far from the New England atmosphere of New Hampshire, where Fanfare Farm was located. They were also on a mission, to catch a mustang or two from the free-roaming, completely wild, herds out here. Shelby had decided that Fanfare Farm was going to also become a mustang refuge, where mustangs could free-roam in huge pastures- and a 100 acre pasture had already been constructed, complete with 'wild grass' and even streams, few trees and rocky hills. The mustangs would be able to live as they would in the wild, staying outside all year. They would be checked by vets every once in a while though, even if it was just being viewed from afar to see if any in the herd had injuries.
Terror snorted and stamped a hoof nervously as something upset him. Shelby looked up and motioned to Jake- in the distance was a small herd of horses, consisting of a handsome overo stallion, bay blanket appaloosa mare and leopard appaloosa colt. It was a small herd, but it would do. They began riding as quietly as possible to them, hoping that Scarlet and Terror would be fast enough to effectively keep up with the hardy mustangs. As they grew nearer, they could see that the mare was in fact a brindle and that both the colt and stallion has striking blue eyes. It was definitley a colorful herd. Neither Shelby nor Jake was confident enough in their mustang-roping abilities to choose one, they'd be happy catching whichever one was easiest.
They were very near now, trotting slowly, and the wild horses stared at them- getting nervous and antsy. Jake looked Shelby in the eye, and they both signaled their mounts to gallop at the herd. The mare immediatley lept to the front, and the older stallion fell back, nipping the colt that was presumably his son to hurry him. Shelby continued chasing them from the back while Jack cut them off from the front. The mare reared up, terrified, now that she had someone behind her and someone in front. Jake managed to get the rope around her neck and pulled it tight enough so that she couldn't get her head out.
They had bought a specially made halter, that was easy to put on difficult horses, so Jake rode closer to the mare, shortening the length of rope- and after a few minutes of kicking and squealing, managed to get the halter on. He tied the original rope to the horn of his saddle and held the long lead rope. The mare's leader and son watched her warily, not wanting to leave their herdmember, but also not wanting to have the same fate as her. It broke Shelby's heart, but eventually the stallion led the colt away. Maybe the colt and his father would travel together though, now that the stallion didn't have a herd. Shelby hoped they would.
It took hours to get the mare to the corrals, where she was checked over by the vet and given vaccinations. Then it was time to go home. Shelby and Jake hugged Riley and Derek goodbye before loading the sedated mare into the trailer. It was usually a four horse trailer, but they had taken out all of the dividers and filled it with hay for bedding, so that the mare would have plenty of space for the long ride. They pulled out of the long driveway and started home.
----------
When they arrived at the farm, Jake towed the trailer all the way to the hige new mustang pasture and backed it up to the entrance. Shelby and Jake got out, opened the trailer door and watched at the mare blinked in the bright sunlight, looked at the humans warily, and then cantered out of the trailer and into the pasture. Once adequatly far from the two humans, she sniffed the air and then galloped off to explore her new home.
Hopefully she'd have a new herd to share it with soon.

i like brindles haha, you know you're crazy when your HARPG farm has 2 brindles...
so unlikely if you go by chance of a foal being brindle lol (but hopefully now will have bunches of brindle arabs (since Blood in Thy Coffee is the other brindle) and mustangs!!)
they are so cool- I actually don't care for competeing with them on HARPG but i like the colors and wildness buuuut Shelby and Jake's children who will def. be born at some point will be choosing foals to grow up with as their 1st mounts from the herd
And O'malley is for the kids and for driving. So much planning for children when the wedding hasn't even happened yet lol
very clever, i know
