Description
I've been wanting to do one these for a loooong time. It's pretty fun, and I might do it again with some other characters. But for now, I settled for these guys. Now time for the REALLY long part where I try to explain why each of them have their place on the spectrums 8')
Sex: I think this is pretty self explanatory. Hannah's a girl, Terrance, Twist, and Ginger are dudes.
Gender: Once again, self explanatory.
Build: Twist and Terrance are pretty skinny, gangly, dudes. So is Hannah, but she's at least normal for her weight and height, which is why she's farther on the spectrum than them. Ginger's also on the skinny side, but he's probably the most average out of all of them.
Height: Hannah's the shortest out all of them, but she's still pretty tall, being around 5'8. Ginger's a bit taller than her, being 5'11, meanwhile , Terrance and Twist are a way too tall 6'7.
Handedness: Terrance and Ginger are cursed with being lefties. Twist and Hannah are righties.
Physical Ability: Terrance, Twist, and Ginger are pretty average in the physical ability department. Ginger a little less so, since I imagine him being a dork who's not that into sports or physical activity. (Though, neither are Terrance and Twist) Hannah on the other hand, has a job that pretty much requires her to sit around, strain herself mentally, and she drinks copious amounts of coffee so she can stay up and complete more work. That takes a pretty heavy toll on her body, so I doubt she's very strong.
Intelligence (Scholarly): Twist isn't a complete idiot or anything, and he knows more than enough about how humans function to get by in life. But, it's not like he's ever graduated college, or gotten a PhD for anything. I'm a little iffy about where Terrance is education wise. He probably attended school when he was a kid, but then dropped out when he was in his early teens to try and get a job to help out his family. Later on, I can imagine him enrolling himself in college to ensure that he'd get a better job, but I don't know if he'd commit to that for too long. Ginger and Hannah both finished school with pretty good grades, but I wouldn't call them GENIUSES.
Wisdom, cleverness: I definitely went more by wisdom rather than cleverness with this one, so keep that in mind. I'd say Twist, Terrance, and Hannah are all kinda on the same boat there. But if you want life advise, Ginger's the one to go to.
Education level: See Intelligence (scholarly)
Social Ability: Terrance is the least social out of all of them. He isn't completely absent, but he'd rather not have to interact with strangers. Hannah is kinda the same way, but she pushes herself to talk to people a lot more than Terrance does. Ginger really likes talking to people, it doesn't take much effort for him to strike up a conversation with someone. Twist LIVES for attention.
Perceptiveness: Twist and Terrance are pretty much the same here. They're not GREAT at picking up people's emotions, but if someone is showing clear signs of being upset, or angry, they'll pick up on it. Hannah's pretty good at telling people's emotions, especially since she's an investigator. She's sort of trained herself to pay attention to gestures or things people do that'll give off hints of what they're feeling. Given the right information, Ginger can read you like a book. It's kinda scary.
Readability: Good luck with getting Terrance to tell you anything that's going on with him. You have to be reeeeal close to him for that to happen. Twist is pretty much the same way. Hannah's also pretty hard to read. Ginger can be too, depending on how he's feeling. If he wants to hide something from you, he's gonna do it well. But he doesn't really have anything TOO bad to hide, so he's pretty open.
Intro-extrovert: See social ability.
Gender Appearance: Uh...Hannah looks like a girl, and the rest of them look like guys?
Sexuality: They're all straight.
Romanticism: I'm honestly not sure what this one meant, so I skipped it.
Romantic: Terrance doesn't really care about romance. If anything, he tries to avoid it. It's just too messy. Hannah isn't the most romantic person either, and with how busy she is, it's not really something she has time for. But, she's not COMPLETELY apposed to it. Ginger and Twist eat that sappy romance stuff up. ESPECIALLY Twist.
Affectionate: Terrance isn't the most huggy person in the world. You gotta be pretty close to him to get him to hug you back instead of just standing there awkwardly until you let him go. For Twist, it really depends. He prefers to do more intimate things than just snuggle. But, you can bet he loved cuddling with his wife, maybe even to the point where it got obnoxious. Ginger's always ready for a hug. You wanna hug him? Go for it.
Disposition (outwardly): Twist isn't too nice of a guy. If he doesn't like someone (which is most often the case) he'll probably assert dominance by being super passive aggressive. If he continues to not like you, he'll be flat out rude. Not to mention, he gives off really strong "this guy is trouble" vibes. Terrance and Hannah don't give off the best impressions either, especially since they both have a really bad case of RBF. Though Hannah is a bit better. Ginger radiates sunshine.
Disposition (inwardly): Inside, Twist falls in more of the morally grey area rather than flat out evil. He loves to intimidate people, but he won't actually do anything to them unless they REALLY tick him off. Terrance and Hannah are overall pretty good people, and lean more towards the kind side than anything else. Ginger once again radiates sunshine.
Petty: Oh you BET Twist is petty. He'll never forget that ONE time you cut him off while driving, or looked at him funny when he was JUST CHECKING those romance novels at Barns and Nobel. Terrance and Hannah try not to let little things get to them, but Hannah is better with brushing them off than Terrance is. Ginger has four kids. He doesn't have the energy to be petty.
Sane: I mean, being willing to kill people because you don't like them doesn't exactly make you the sanest person in the world. Twist isn't flat out CRAZY, but...he has his moments. Terrance has also been through somethings that have kinda messed with him. And if committing suicide multiple times doesn't show that you're at least a little bit mentally unstable, I don't know what does. Hannah's been through some crazy stuff, especially in her past, but she's doing pretty well. Ginger's all good for the most part.
Friendliness: While Twist tends to be more on the rude side, he DOES have friends, believe it or not. Well, one friend. He has one true friend. But whenever said friend isn't around, he's able to put on his 'charming and suave' act long enough to socialize with people so he can at least pretend he has more than one friend. Terrance doesn't come off was a rude guy, but he's not all sunshine and rainbows either. In order to get him to be genuinely friendly with you, you have to be his friend. Hannah is pretty much the same way, though she's willing to be friendly with strangers. Ginger's a nice guy all around.
Stoic: Twist can be kinda moody. It's hard to keep a straight face when your temperature fluctuates with your mood. With Terrance, it depends. For the most part, he keeps his "don't talk to me", annoyed, expression. But, he doesn't keep it on ALL the time, especially when he's showing extreme emotion. Ginger's surprisingly good at keeping a straight face. He doesn't keep one all the time, but it can be useful. Hannah's better than any of them when it comes to being stoic, especially since she puts most of her energy into working rather than showing emotion.
Graceful: Being the awkwardly tall and lanky guy he is, you can bet Terrance isn't the most graceful guy. Though, guess he can't be excused by his height since for some reason Twist can keep his balance and posture like it's no one's business. Idk about Ginger, I guess being kinda clumsy fits in with the whole dork thing he has going on. Hannah is pretty good with keeping her grace. I like to think she took dance lessons when she was a kid. Maybe ballet or jazz.
Stubbornness: Wanna know something? Terrance is secretly a pushover. Well, not a COMPLETE pushover. But chances are, if you ask him to do something over and over and over again, he'll probably do it just so you'll stop asking. I can imagine Ginger being a pushover, especially in his younger years, but parenting has taught him to grow more of a backbone. Twist is preeeetty stubborn. When he says he's not going to do something, he's not going to do something, unless he finds out it befits him in some way. Something has to REALLY push Hannah to do something she says she's not going to do.
Courageous: Twist may be big on intimidation, but when it comes down to it, the guy will do nearly anything to save his own skin. He HATES pain, and if he has to runaway from something in order to avoid it, so be it. I wouldn't call Ginger a coward, but he is on the more cautious side. Terrance doesn't really care too easily. Which makes sense, since he doesn't have to worry about death. But still, he'd rather avoid danger. (being suddenly spooked is another story) Hannah's not stupid, but she's done quite a few risky things, especially for her investigations.
Loyal: It depends with Twist. He's not too great with commitment, but when he gets saddled into a relationship he actually cares about (which is very rare) he'll do what he can to keep it together. Terrance and Hannah will both be loyal to people they care about, but, they're both really cautious when it comes to getting attached to people, especially Terrance. You got a friend in Ginger.
Lawfulness: Twist doesn't care too much about lawfulness, but he's not too big on getting trouble either. He'll follow them when they're convenient for him. Hannah's no criminal, especially since her job revolves around catching criminals. Buuuut, she might have broken a few rules before. But y'know, it ended up being worth it. Terrance isn't big on getting in trouble either. But, he's broken a couple laws in his time. Ginger is a good citizen.
Attitude: With all the stuff he's been through, Terrance has a pretty pessimistic view on life. But, he's not very vocal about it. With Hannah and Twist, it depends on whether things are going their way. If they are, great! If they're not, screw the world. This is probably much more extreme with Twist. Ginger is a 'the glass is half full' person through and through.
Sorry if this has a ton of spelling mistakes. It's late and I need to sleep

I love this.
I like how twist is off the screen almost for petty. Also, if you look at lawfulness, terrance appears to be hiding behind Hannah.

Heeeey, you FINALLY uploaded something! Although I'm like a day late to comment. x'D
Honestly I've been meaning to fill this same meme out for... years. But it looks like a lot of work so I've just put it off. For years. Like I do everything else.

YEEEEEAAAAH It's about time, right?
It honestly didn't take too long, it was the descriptions that took the longest, and you're not even supposed to add them xD
But I'd loooove to see you do this meme with your characters 8)

I was literally just wondering yesterday when you were going to post again.
Yeah, I kinda wowed at the description because your descriptions are like one sentence long and MINE are the super fricken long ones only like 0.1% of the population takes the time to read. (I read the whole thing, don't worry. xD)

Oh yeah, most people don't even GLANCE at descriptions and it honestly drives me crazy. I could put "Kevin has multiple personalities!" twelve times in my description and someone will still comment: "So what's his deal, does he have a mental disorder or something?"

I like to go in and just put "EDIT:" and then write the edit. Or if it's something like character height, I'll just change it without signaling an edit. Helmut has actually gotten TALLER over the years by, like... four inches. Which he really didn't need. Doorways greet him easier than people do.
Also (this isn't related, but uh--) you know those memes people used to fill out where you draw the outfits your character would wear in the different seasons? Like, their Spring outfit, Summer outfit, Autumn outfit, etc? I always liked those and have secretly always wanted to do one.

Oh, is there a way to change it without signaling and edit? Because a lot of the time I end up not editing things because I don't want it to appear in people's messages again.
And yeeeeah, I've done the same thing with Terrance. Does he need to be 6'7? Heck no. Why did I make him that way? Just because.
Also, ME FREAKING TOO DUDE. HECK, I was JUST searching for one of those "draw your OCs in different clothes" memes because I REALLY wanna do one

Yeah! Actually there's a certain box you have to check so that people will see it, so I'm guessing you're just clicking that box every time out of habit...?
Just click 'Edit' then edit whatever you want. Then scroll to the veeeeery bottom and the very last box to check, in tiny print, says 'Notify your watchers'. If that box is checked they'll get a message that you've updated the deviation. For me it's automatically not checked every time, so I don't know why it would be checked for you.
Every time I tell someone how tall Helmut is they say something about how it's unrealistic, and I just want to be like... No? Not really? He's meant to be super tall so that's what I made him. Unrealistic would be like 7' 4'' or something. Characters can be something that most people aren't without it being impossible or unrealistic.
That's why I can't stand it when fandoms love how short or how tall a character is, but if YOU make a character who's super short or super tall people will question you in this condescending way, like: "Pfft, this poor child obviously doesn't know what a realistic height is. We'd better break it to her."
I've never filled one out but I suuuuper duper want to! I have for years actually, I've just always been way too lazy. I also need to update my fursona's reference sheet because it's super outdated...

Ooooh okay, thanks!
And yeah, it's pretty dumb to say that it's unrealistic. Very tall people DO exist. Heck, having a bunch of characters that are all the same average height is more unrealistic than one really tall character. Plus, it really is unfair how characters from TV shows that have drastic heights are loved, and yet OCs are criticized for it.
ooh, it would definitely be cool to see you draw your fursona again

Ooooh man, am I the only one who gets kinda annoyed when I see people's dA accounts full of perfectly average characters? Well, 'annoyed' isn't the right word. More like it just doesn't interest me at all or make me want to subscribe to them. I just don't understand people who have tons of super bland looking characters. For some reason it usually fits this description:
-Characters are all guys
-Characters all have brown or blonde hair, but probably light brown
-No interesting features at all. Probably wears a t-shirt and sneakers. That isn't bad, but it is if all nine of your characters essentially look the same, ya know?
-Their personalities don't exist. It's always just a bunch of perfect, cookie cutter cute guys.
Idk dude, maybe I'm just too judge-y.
Heh, I reeeeeally need to update her ref.

Haaaaa, that was me when I first started making characters. except instead of bland guys, it was bland tween girls.
If there's one thing I hate as much as characters that have a billion sparkly colors and magic power, it's characters that are too bland, and all look the same. ESPECIALLY when it comes to clothing designs. I get it, t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers are easy to draw. But not EVERY character has to be wearing that.

Clockwork-Jack In reply to Sunstreak2000 [2018-02-20 02:34:32 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, come to think of it, why is that the go-to outfit for kids to draw? Sneakers, a t-shirt and jeans are normal things to wear. But when it comes to drawing, why is your character wearing it? You're supposed to stop and think: "Why did my character decide to wear this? What do they like to wear? What wouldn't they wear? If I took them to the mall, what would they get?"
I don't know about you, but when I was younger I had a really weird aversion to making characters be my age. For some reason I got this squirming feeling of discomfort if I made them my age, or even similar to my age. I remember back in middle school I used to do this weird thing where I would imagine myself meeting cool people or going cool places, but I would actually imagine myself older. I hated imagining myself as my current age, as if my current age was lame or something. I honestly don't really know what was up with that. This actually goes all the way back to some of my earliest memories. I even remember being three years old, just imagining myself in some kind of cool universe, but I had a weird thing at the time where I could never show my face in my imagination. Every single scene in my mind had to be at an angle where my face couldn't show, because I was embarrassed of being scene by my mind's eye?? Or something??
Yet for some reason I was fine with drawing Kevin's original ref sheet with a pair of pants I used to wear all of the time.

Sunstreak2000 In reply to Clockwork-Jack [2018-03-03 00:07:12 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I guess the main reason the go-to outfit is a hoodie and sneakers, is because they're simple to draw. Also there's that huge trend of people drawing characters in over sized clothing because it looks cute.
You know, that's funny because I was the exact opposite. When I first started making characters, I would ALWAYS make them around my age. I think it's because most of the stories I read, or stories I liked were about kids doing awesome things, and being super cool. And since I could never do that, I guess making characters who were around my age was sort of like wish fulfillment. I guess that's why I made so many characters who were literally just self inserts, ha.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Clockwork-Jack In reply to Sunstreak2000 [2018-04-04 17:06:46 +0000 UTC]
Ooooh yeah. Don't get me wrong, over sized clothing can be adorable, but I have this weird thing where I would rather see over sized clothing on characters who don't usually wear it. Not just generic teen doods. Like, I've seen some awesome fan-art of Sniper from TF2 wearing baggy sweaters, and it was adorable. But then I'll see some young, teen character wearing baggy clothes and it doesn't look that cute to me, it just looks like another cute teen boy stereotype.
I was that way, but only kind of?? Like I would make a character that was around my age, but making them exactly my ages just felt wrong to me somehow. So they'd still totally be a self insert, but they would be at least one year older. Maybe in my mind, older me was gonna be cooler than younger me, or something??

Oh yeah, seeing characters I like in baggy clothing is awesome. And I like drawing my characters in baggy clothing once in a while. But as for making it one of my character's main designs, I try to avoid it.
I can't say that I though being older was cooler, especially since for some reason, I hated making characters who were more than a few years older. Can't say I feel that way now, ha

Yeah, exactly. It is cute, it's just something that gets overdone sometimes.
The only character of mine that I can think of that wears baggy clothing as his main style of clothes, is Kevin. But it's because he's dirt poor and thin as a stickbug.
Really?? Weeeird.
Although I definitely couldn't make characters who were younger than me. It just felt weird to me somehow, like I couldn't connect with them because I was no longer that age.

Yup, I agree.
The only character I have who only wears baggy clothing is Trevor. And he's dead, so it's not like he can change outfits. Also, it feels weird to change his design after all this time.
Oh, I used to love making characters who were younger than me. Also, a lot of characters who I was once younger than, have now become younger than me since I've grown up, and that feels kinda weird. I don't actively make characters who are a lot younger than me because they're pretty hard to write for. The only characters I have now who are a LOT younger than me are the ones who have stuck around from when I was, like, twelve.

Clockwork-Jack In reply to Sunstreak2000 [2018-04-04 21:53:47 +0000 UTC]
Yyeeeah I was thinking of Trevor actually. I always assumed that he had baggy clothing because that's the ~aesthetic~ that every kid goes through at some point in time when it comes to designing characters.
I noticed that when I was over at your house. It seemed like almost all of your oldest characters were kids, which I find kinda weird because I've always had an aversion to writing child characters. I mean, I like kids, I just... Don't like writing kids. They're hard to write. And draw. Which is apparently a problem that almost everyone has, in case you haven't noticed how inaccurate a lot of kids on TV are. *Coughs*HenryfromOnceUponATime*Coughs*

Idk if it was an "aesthetic" thing, or even something I did because I saw everyone else doing it (heck, at the time, most of the artists I looked up to and frequently tried to imitate didn't eve have human characters, just animal ones) I'm pretty sure I just did it because it was simple to draw, and I didn't like making complicated designs. Heck, I STILL don't like making complicated designs. But, I still want to stay away from the typical "baggy hoodie" or "solid color shirt with jeans" design.
Yeah, idk why, I just loved making kid characters. And I still really like drawing kids, even though I don't really make a lot of kid characters anymore. And Ooooh, yeah. I hate it when kid characters are portrayed as annoying, and never listen to anyone. News flash, not ALL kids are stubborn brats. And the face that they're mostly portrayed like this really says something about the way people see kids. In a way, I guess it's kinda like writing teenagers. A lot of teenagers are portrayed as hormonal, rebellious, stupid kids who never listen to anyone. But, that's NOT how a lot teens act. I would know, because I am one.

I know exactly what you mean. Do you remember doing something as a kid where you really wanted to design different outfits for your characters, but just couldn't think of them? Because middle school me knew so little about both clothing and character design that I used to get frustrated over how little other outfits I could actually come up with. Which is why I started looking them up on Pinterest.
Uggh man, you've got that right. Even as a kid I disliked most kid characters I saw on TV because they were usually the whiny ones that messed everything up. Or they were obnoxiously sassy and always right, or just some version of annoying. I'm looking at you, Disney channel.

I can't tell you how many times I've looked up "emo shirt" or "emo hoodie" so I could find something new to draw Eugene in. I actually enjoy drawing my characters in different outfits nowadays, whereas back then I would almost exclusively draw them in the same basic Hoodie + Pants + Sneakers every time. I used to draw a lot of trench-coats and bow-ties as well, thanks to Doctor Who. It was like I just couldn't think of other clothes whenever I actually tried to.
Tell me about it. Did we grow up, or did they actually get more annoying?

Oh yeah, definitely. With Kevin and Eugene the scarf is their stability. Kevin doesn't own a lot of clothes and usually wears the same ratty ones for years and years. He probably wouldn't wear something new until Terrance or Hannah forcefully bought him new stuff, because he just "doesn't want to be a burden" or part from his current clothes because of *cough* attachment issues *coughs*. Eugene on the other hand... I could draw him wearing neon, fluffy leg warmers and a crop top with a panda on it and it would still be in character.
