here's a drawing i did today of cloud strife from final fantasy vii. i did this for the brian bendis message board's weekly sketch thread: [link]i had some time to kill since i'm still waiting on my next script, so i decided to throw down some gray tones on this. (working with gray can be fun, but nervewracking. i'd still like to try out some copic markers for con sketches. but, i digress..)
this is his advent children look (i think. or it may be kingdom hearts, i'm not sure). i'm not the biggest fan of FF7, but i know how important it was to gaming, and still have fond memories of playing it during my freshman year of college (yeah, i'm old!)
maybe i'll try my hand at drawing barrett next!

The grey tones give a good appearance of comic shading. The look he's got going is FFVII AC, but slap some wings on him and a red scarf and you've basically got his original Kingdom Hearts outfit. I'm a bit of a FFVII nut, and one of my friends just got me hooked onto KH in the past year.
Only one thing I ask, since I know you did the shading on the fly....where's the sword's shadow? That thing is huge....if it's behind/off the page, then nvm. I'm still a little rough on continual light sources.

never tried KH. my wife loves that series, though. i could hardly tear her away from part 2! i'm more a FF8 kind of guy, though I did really enjoy what I got to play of 12.

Yanno, you're one of the first peeps to say that they liked FF8 more than FF7 that I know.
That aside....the KH series has got some interesting gameplay and does a fairly nice job (in the second one, at least) of combining the FF series style with Disney's over bright bubbly stuff. I had to make one of the Org XIII jackets after I started playing that game, though. It's just THAT badass.
I haven't had a working game console since FFX-2.....

haha yeah, i'm weird like that. i just really liked the gameplay, the story and the minigames in FF8. i liked the junctioning and drawing systems, but i know several people didn't.
yeah, that's what i hear about KH! i dug the design aspects--especially in the sequel. it always looked fun, but i was always too busy to try and get in and play it. hopefully when i finish this book i'm on i can get some more quality game time in!
that's too bad about the console! FFXII is a pretty cool game, and i just saw the demo footage of FFXIII--THAT looks really cool.

thanks, dude! i did kinda cheat on the blade by overlaying a grayscaled texture on it. but hey, it worked! haha
