I really love this photograph as it's a photograph that hits close to home for virtually everybody, making it very effective as an emotive photograph. The colors and textures work very well together. My only wonder is if the composition can be strengthened, not that it's horrible or anything. It's just something to think about. This is a beautiful photograph, you did a nice job with it.

"My only wonder is if the composition can be strengthened"
How would you suggest then?

Well, when I first looked at the picture, I was trying to decide whether or not the object (I think it's a chair?) in the background was working as a means to communicate the piece to the viewer or as a distraction but I couldn't decide, which was why I was wondering about it. I took a piece of paper and covered up parts to see what may work better visually and I can't say I'm more attached to any of those ways than the way it is now. I suppose what I would suggest is for you to do the same and see what you think. I'm kind of partial to the way my eye moved around the photograph when I covered up about half of the bear's ear, so that the bear was breaking the boundary of the frame instead of completely contained in the frame but it could be that the way you have it now really is the best way and my eyes are just playing tricks on me. I hope this was more specific, I really do like this piece a lot.

The chair is actually a wall. But I will look at the cropping of the bear as you suggested, it had not occoured to me before to exclude part of the bear like that. Thank you for your suggestions/input!

This reminds me of an old French animation I saw called "Forbidden Planet." It's the story of an alternate reality, where humans live on the same planet as these giant blue humanoid aliens of superior intellect, who live in an amazing society of sophistication and meditation. The humans, being the size of mere rats, are adopted by these people as play things, as pets.
The story deals with one human growing up and developing a strong bond with his alien keeper. However, as she grew up, she began to neglect him.
This image gives me the same feeling of neglect while watching that film. We develop bonds with our toys, but being superior to them, we mature out of them. We grow tired of them, and see them as being expendable. However, if our pets become dependent on us, and their lives exist solely around our's...then what's to happen with them when we engage the inevitable response of tiring of them.
Sheesh. I'm going to go give my pet rat a good snuggle. Hope she doesn't poo in my arms like last time.
The placement of this photo is what delivers it the best, where the perspective of the bear gives direction and depth to the scene. With the scene in place, the angle at which the camera looks at it develops a sense of insignificance in it, like it's forgotten, like there's a wide expanse but nothing to pick it up. The color treatment is also beneficial, where it looks like an old photo, like it's an old teddy bear that is displaced in our modern age of technology.
Bah, enough rambling. There's nothing at all "constructive" I can give to a photograph that so eloquently constructs that which it was intended to convey. I'll just shut up and fav up.

Ok...I clicked on the link in and I see this. You really should have put some sort of cuteness warning on it! Its so cute its painful! I love the mood...it just tears my heart out.
Reminds me of when I was a kid and I just knew that my stufties had emotions too.
Seriously though I love the whole thing. The composition, the mood of the lighting. It all really worked in this photo.

The dark sepia you have here really fits well with the photograph. There are parts of the bear that look blurry, yet that could just be fluff. Nicely done composition. This brings the feeling I think you intended to portray
