Cutesy edit I slapped together in about a half an hour before heading to my college art class tonight :3 I had this vision of some cute, wintry pic of Jack and Violet all close and cuddly in the snow and stuff and knew if I didn't pursue it, I'd die. So last night I stumbled across this adorable picture of this couple under this blanket and knew I had to use it for the pic. I didn't have time last night to put it together so today after I finished my homework, I decided to finally put together the edit. I might've rushed a little bit because I pretty much only had a half an hour or a little less to eat and put it together but I'm actually really, really incredibly happy with the outcome <3 I think it might be one of the best JackxViolet edits I've ever made ^_^Related content

Well, thank you! And you certainly may I know JackxViolet isn't necessarily a very popular ship but it sort of just clicked one day to me. Most people tend to think they're only shipped together because of the whole invisibility thing and I will honestly admit, that is one of the reasons I like them, but for me it's so much more than that. The way I see it, their story arcs parallel. They both start out as these sarcastic loners desperate for something they're sure they'll never get: their idea of normalcy (for Jack, being believed in like the other Guardians and for Violet, being mundane and powerless like average people). Despite some reluctance at first, they end up thrown into this dangerous adventure where they must fight as a team to defeat an evil threatening the wellbeing of a certain group (for Jack, it's teaming up with the Guardians to overthrow Pitch and save the children; for Violet, it's teaming up with her family to overthrow Syndrome and save Metroville). Along the way, though, they learn to believe in themselves for who they are and discover their purpose as well as tighten/forge bonds with family/people who become like family. They may not have gotten what they originally wanted or at least how they expected to get it, but what they ended up with was better for them than they could've ever expected. Being the oldest sibling, they both know of the pros and cons of their birth order but also share a protective quality over the ones they love. They know what it's like to feel invisible (as well as literally be invisible), even in a crowded room (like when Violet is standing in the schoolyard and turns invisible when Tony looks at her, and when Jamie can see every other Guardian but Jack that night in his bedroom). I feel like they would be able to give each other the affection and reassurance that they both spend so much of their story arcs yearning for, and I think their personalities compliment one another really well, too. Violet is a bit more methodical and cautious, she thinks ahead and makes smart decisions. In contrast, Jack is reckless and irresponsible and impulsive. They would probably bicker every so often like every real couple does but at the end of the day, I think they'd really balance each other out. Violet would make Jack stop and think about what he's doing first (even if she has to trap him in a forcefield) and Jack would help Violet loosen up a bit and tap into the more carefree parts of herself she probably thought were long gone. With such similar jobs, as well, they would probably be able to work together every so often to take down some supervillains terrorizing kids in Metroville. Weird looks from strangers wouldn't be much of a problem because they could easily fly under the radar in public settings due to the whole invisibility factor, but I think that's just a very small droplet in a decent sized ocean of reasons. The pranks Jack could play would no doubt be hilarious, too-- especially the ones on Frozone because of their similar powers. He'd probably be a big hit with Dash and Jack Jack, as well (given that they believe in him and could see him). Dash and Jack could go around pranking together and racing each other down the street and Jack could easily extinguish Jack Jack should he decide to ignite himself. Even though Jack is around 317 years old, he's still physically a reckless teenager but Violet is only 14 in the first film (I can't say whether that will change in the sequel, though) so the physical age difference isn't that huge, either. It's even smaller if we're going by the book's information seeing as Jack is physically 14, as well, in the books according to William Joyce. It wouldn't be the first time Violet was paired with one of William Joyce's characters, either, since her most popular ship is with Wilbur Robinson, who is also a Joyce character, so I think that's pretty cool. I don't know, I'm sorry for the massive novel of an explanation but I guess I just think Jack and Violet have a shit-ton of potential together. I feel like there's a lot of possibilities for a relationship between the two of them xD

Wow, you made some excellent points! I didn't realize how similar they really are, yet their differences can keep the couple interesting and help each other grow! There's so much that could bring them together! I don't ship Jack with anyone but myself , but I am starting to become convinced of Jack x Violet! Don't apologize, I asked for this and your explanation was great! I'm the one who should apologize, having such a short reply to this. XD

Haha well I'm not gonna lie, a small portion of why I started shipping them was because I see a lot of Violet's qualities in myself and we look extremely similar so maybe a small part of the whole thing is a teensy bit selfish on my part but nonetheless, I do like the potential their relationship has

YES, REALLY! I feel like there are really so few of us that don't like the ship, so it's definitely nice finding someone who feels the same. I liked Tooth from the books, but I felt like they really reduced her character in the movie. The romance aspect between her and Jack always seemed so forced and unnecessary to me, and perhaps almost incestual with the way she'd seem to snap from acting like Jack's mother to fawning over him. She has so much more dimension in the books, I'm sad they took that away from her and replaced it with this ditzy quality. I would've greatly preferred if they had implemented the relationship he has with Katherine in the books, honestly.

There really are so few of us. I was wondering if I was crazy for not seeing it, but I guess not thankfully. I finally have someone to vent to about it! (Only if you don't mind)
I haven't read the books, but I heard Tooth was a stronger character in them. I've seen a few claim what we saw in the movie was a whitewashed version of her. I wonder why they changed her? I always felt the romance aspect was a one sided fangirling thing from her part about his teeth...I just didn't see it from Jack's side. I agree though, the way she felt about him was confusing to me because one minute she'd be like a mother figure, the next a fangirl, and another a friend venting about her problems in Jamie's room in that one scene. Yeah, I'll be honest here...I don't hate Tooth, but she was my least favorite guardian. She just seemed a bit annoying to me...idk? I've heard about Katherine before, but that relationship he had with her was when he was Nightlight...which really confuses me since in the movie, Jack wasn't Nightlight before Jack Frost, but a mortal...

Yeah, there really are so few. And don't worry, I don't mind you venting! It's nice to finally have someone to talk about this with haha xD
Tooth was definitely a much stronger character in the books than she was in the movie. In the novels, she's this independent, intelligent, and badass fairy with swords and they touch on her backstory, on how she lost her family and became the Tooth Fairy. There was no implication of a romance between her and Jack/Nightlight whatsoever in the books, either. His relationship with Katherine was much more well-rounded and dynamic and I would've loved to have seen that shown in the movie rather than with Tooth. Katherine is implied to become Mother Goose and she's very shy, sweet, courageous, and smart. Her and Nightlight had this beautiful, deep relationship where they understood each other on this deeper level and the idea of them being love interests is further enforced by a circumstance in the books that basically implies it was partially why Nightlight became Jack Frost, but I won't go into the details of that in case you ever want to actually read the books. I think the big reason why the whole Nightlight and Jack Frost fiasco is so confusing, though, is because the book series was never finished when the movie came out (and still isn't). A part of me thinks that William Joyce didn't have the entire plot of the series mapped out beforehand and so when he decided to make Nightlight become Jack Frost, it caused some discrepancies between the book!verse and movie!verse. I love both but I definitely would've been happier if the movie was more faithful to the book, even though I do think William Joyce hadn't quite planned out the rest of the series by the time the movie came out.

I feel the same way! I'm so glad to let off some steam and hear your thoughts, too!
Ooh! She sounds so cool in the books! I heard somewhere that she used to be an Indian woman or something? Oh, she didn't have a crush on him in the books?
Is that so? Katherine sounds a bit like me! Wow, they were love interests?!
Oh yeah, that makes sense...I've heard from various sources that there are some plot holes and things that don't quite fit between the movie and the books...guess that's why. I found a headcanon by someone that said maybe Nightlight and Jackson Overland (I believe that was Jack's human name in the movie) may have somehow fused together to become Jack Frost...idk. Was Nightlight's personality the same as Jack's from the film? If so, and if he had a thing with Katherine, that might be the type of girl Jack Frost likes...

Yes, exactly!
Book!Tooth was truly was insanely cool. And yeah, she was of some East Asian nationality-- I keep thinking from Thailand or something, but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, they definitely didn't do justice to that in the movies, either. And as far as I can remember, she did not have a crush on him in the book. Besides Katherine and Nightlight, there weren't really any romantic sideplots in the books, though I do personally like the idea book!Tooth and book!North together but that's just me.
Katherine is a phenomenal character and I'm insanely disappointed they kept her out of the movie. She reminds me a bit of myself, as well, and I feel like her and Violet share some personality traits, too. There was especially one line in the book that mentions one of her curls falling into her face that reminded me so much of how Violet would cover her face with her hair. Her and Nightlight were as much love interests as two 12-14 year olds can be, though, so it wasn't like full-on love but there were definitely little things that implied they had feelings for each other leading up to one very big thing in the most recently published book. My favorite, though, is this one part where Nightlight refers to her as "my Katherine." So freaking adorable.
I think I've seen that headcanon about Jack and Nightlight, as well. Sleuthing around William Joyce's Instagram gives some insight into fillers for the plot holes but I do think the series' incompleteness at the time of the movie's production definitely was a massive catalyst in all the discrepancies. I know movies almost always have differences from the books but the ones between Rise of the Guardians and the Guardians of Childhood universe are so massive, I'm definitely interested to see how WJ irons out all the plot holes. I know he revealed in one instagram post something about two more GoC books (so far they've each highlighted/introduced a new character but I think the last two will probably focus on Katherine and then Nightlight's transition into Jack Frost) and then a series of Jack Frost novels, so there's definitely much to look forward in the realm of the Guardians universe so hopefully that will help a bit. Nightlight and Jack have some similarities but they're definitely different. Nightlight barely speaks-- rather, he communicates in fragmented thoughts-- and he expressed much more condensed and controlled emotions than Jack does. However, he's the type of person who cares very deeply and is very protective of those he cares about, having originally been given the job of protecting a baby Man in the Moon. I know the picture book explains that Nightlight fell into a frozen lake in the midst of a fierce battle with Pitch and became Nightlight through that but that doesn't explain anything about Jackson Overland so I can only hope that any upcoming novels shed some light on that subject. Either way, if Katherine and Nightlight's relationship progresses any further, as well, I think it's definitely safe to assume what kind of girl Jack likes, which is great for us haha xD

She sure sounds like it! I heard India from a few sources. They barely did any of Tooth's book version justice from what you are saying. Hm...I wonder why they gave her a crush on Jack then in the movie? For laughs maybe since it made her act so ditzy?
You like Tooth and North's book versions together? Interesting! Is North the same in the movie as in the books? I always kinda thought Movie!North should have his "Mrs. Claus" for some reason. I once saw an article that said if ROTG 2 was ever made, it would focus on North!
She sure sounds pretty awesome! Oh, if she's similar to Violet, then I would probably like her and relate to her a lot! Ha, really? They got the same hair thing going on! XD Oh, their characters were that young? So it was an innocent kind of love, huh? Aw, that sounds adorable!
Yeah, I hope he fixes the holes somehow. He did say the movie takes place three hundred years after the books, so they are supposed to be closely related. Hm, so if Jack and Nightlight are somewhat different in personality, does that mean Nightlight's changed some when he became Jack? So confused! Nightlight sounds chivalrous! XD I hope they do explain Jackson Overland...he was only in the movie for like two minutes, but I freaking love him! XD You think Jack would fall for Katherine? I'd ship it! XD I wonder what their relationship would be like...
That would be great for us haha! I see so many people around the fandom claiming Jack would fall for an outgoing, loud, and energetic type of girl and not a shy, calmer one. Idk why, but it makes me feel insecure even though no official source says what his type is...man why do I have to love a fictional character?!

supereilonwypevensie In reply to Feather-Creations [2016-06-15 06:48:11 +0000 UTC]
It might be India, I'm not 100% sure. I know it's some country from that general area. I just don't remember specifically which one off hand haha If I remember correctly, I believe I heard/read in an interview someplace that making Tooth crazy for Jack was Guillermo del Toro's idea, claiming that apparently because Jack was considered a heart throb, he needed a love interest which I honestly think is incredibly stupid and pointless but whatever.
I know Tooth and North might sound weird together, but I don't know, I just really love the way they interact in the books. Tooth is much more mature in the books and North is very much the same as he is in the movie except much younger. North starts out as this sort of selfish, pillaging Russian who invades the town where Katherine and her adoptive father, a wizard named Ombric, live. Throughout the first book, though, he becomes so much more than that and begins his personal journey to becoming the Santa Claus figure we know from the films. He and Katherine also have this really sweet friendship that I adore and he helps her sort of gain some confidence in who she is as a person and they become great confidantes. But as for North and Tooth's relationship, in the books they just have these very interesting interactions that we don't really see quite as much of in the movie. I definitely would love to see Movie!North end up finding a Mrs. Claus, though!
Katherine really is just such a great character. She really embodies this great virtue of imagination and faith that would've been great to see included in the movie. Her and Violet definitely have some differences, like Katherine is nowhere near as cynical as Violet is, but I'd be lying if I said there weren't some similarities there, too (including their age). But yes, in the books Katherine is just a child and William Joyce has claimed that Jack is 14, but in one instragram post he claimed that Jack can apparently age up/down at will so I'm not sure what further developments will come of that. All I know for certain is that Katherine and Nightlight are both pretty young in the books but they definitely have an innocent sort of love going on. Deep, but innocent.
Nightlight truly is/was chivalrous, very much a knight in shining armor. Incredibly sweet and nurturing character. I do desperately want to see all the plot holes fixed, though, and have all the questions explained about Jackson Overland and how he ties into the story in the book version. I hope we get an explanation, to say the least. I adore Jackson Overland, too, though, so I hope he has some sort of inclusion in book!Jack's backstory.
I definitely think Jack could fall for soemone like Katherine, though, just as I think he could fall for someone like Violet. Jack seems to have this very innate way of sensing when someone is special and viewing their potential relationship from a non-canon standpoint in which Nightlight is not Jack and he and Katherine have never met, I think he would take a great interest in her and her generally quiet nature. She's a born storyteller who lives to read, write, and draw and I definitely think that is something Jack would admire and take an interest in, especially if the snippet of him entertaining the village children in his backstory scene is any indication. Contrary to what most people are apparently claiming, though, I think he would definitely fall for a quieter type of girl over someone loud and energetic. A girl that outgoing would probably feel like competition and/or get annoying for Jack after a while. I think he definitely needs someone calmer but who can keep him interested and understand him on a deeper level to nurture and validate him but also balance him out. He's a very pained character after suffering three hundred years of being invisible and needs someone who can assure him that he's worth something and believed in, someone kind and supportive who knows how to have fun but also slow him down and force him to consider at least some of his actions before he makes a stupid decision. Or at least that's how I personally perceive the matter haha

Oh ok haha. I've heard quite a bit about Guillermo del Toro wanting Jack to have a love interest, too. He was considered a heart throb BEFORE the movie came out? That just shows they made him sexy on purpose. Guess they used Tooth to help push that reaction out of female viewers even further! XD Yeah, a love interest would have been out of place. I heard he wanted ANY love interest for Jack, he didn't care who. There are actually deleted storyboards of him having a crush on a human girl! Obviously, she got cut out though, and I guess he tried to shoehorn Tooth into her place which didn't work out. Guillermo del Toro TRIED to make Tooth Jack's love interest, but it turned out being one sided.Β A lot of people claim Jack x Tooth is canon from what is said in the directors commentary, but...I don't believe it is. I have never watched it, but from what I have seen searching all over the internet, the director's commentary only said there was "semi-flirtation" between them when Tooth hits the billboard and "a little flirtation" during the hug at the end. I looked up what semi-flirting is, and it is whenever one person flirts and the other person doesnβt realize/notice. Clearly, it was Tooth flirting, and Jack didn't notice! Also, who says the "little flirtation" in the hug is from both sides? Idk...I must sound desperate because of my distaste for this pair. I also saw somewhere but idk if it's true that the directors said "All ships and non-ships are all canon!"
Nah, you should ship what you like no matter how weird it is! I kinda have this strange liking for Pitch x Elsa, and I have absolutely no idea why. They would probably be terrible together, but people always say the ship comes to you not the other way around! XD North is younger and the same personality in the books? Then it doesn't sound that weird to me. I actually think Tooth's movie personality could be fitting for him for some reason, but the book version of her sounds a bit better. Sounds like he had a lot of development in the books! Katherine's father is a wizard?! Cool! That's interesting to hear North and Katherine helped each other develop. Tooth and North are closer in the books? Interesting. I thought I was the only one that wanted him to have a Mrs. Claus in the movie! I FOUND SOMEONE ELSE!
Katherine is imaginative? Yeah, she is probably a lot like me then. That's cool to hear her and Violet are similar! Wait, did Joyce mean Jack is 14 in maturity or physical age? He can age up and down? It probably has a limit though. Guess Jack in the movie felt like being 17/18! XD Aw, I just love the sound of Nightlight and Katherine's relationship! So cute!
Nightlight sounds like the perfect boy...other than Jack...but they are the same person...AGH SO CONFUSING! XD Yeah, I can't wait to see how the plot holes are fixed, too. I bet it'll be something creative!
I never thought about the sensing thing! He DOES have that! That probably would happen! Katherine writes and draws?! Now I know for sure she is like me! XD Good point, he would probably like a girl who is kind and likes to entertain children! I think the reason why people claim he'd like a more loud and energetic type is because he would have more fun with them, but I agree he might feel like a girl that type would be competition or he would tire of them. Though Jack likes to fly/run around, he is a pretty 'chill' kind of guy. XD I can't argue with your reasoning for him being drawn toward a calmer girl, but I agree that she would need to know how to have fun!
The thing is, your reasoning is fantastic for Jack Frost the winter spirit, but I am planning on writing a fanfiction pairing myself with Jackson Overland...I know, I'm such a fangirl. Jackson didn't have to suffer being invisible and idk if he had that sensing ability...do you think he'd go for a girl like Katherine/Violet/us?

supereilonwypevensie In reply to Feather-Creations [2016-06-16 05:46:06 +0000 UTC]
I would've honestly preferred to see Jack's love interest be a human girl rather than Tooth. It could've been this really bittersweet thing about him being infatuated with her but she can't see him so he suffers the age old unrequited love thing. Not that any love interest is necessary but I definitely think that would've been much more interesting to watch than Tooth fawning over him 24/7. The director's commentary does make multiple nods to Jack and Tooth's flirting which I guess in their mind constitutes the beginnings of a canon relationship.
I definitely agree that shipping should be 100% personal opinion and that everyone should be entitled to ship what they want no matter what. I've seen some PitchxElsa stuff around before, as well, so I don't think it's necessarily too uncommon. I certainly like it much better than JackxElsa (a ship I have as much disdain for as I do ToothxJack). I think Pitch and Elsa definitely make a lot of sense, though, since Elsa spends the majority of the film in fear and Pitch feeds off of that. I can see it as a very bad boy relationship, like a "dancing with death" sort of thing. Ships like that are definitely intriguing, to say the least.
Tooth definitely has some maternal qualities in the movie that I think compliment North's paternal ones nicely. Her maturity and intelligence in the books, though, I think is partially what draws me to the idea of the two of them together solely because I think book!Tooth matches North much better than movie!Tooth does. North really did have a lot of character development in the books which I really love. He's still the same loud, swashbuckling Russian but there's a softness to him when he's with Katherine that's really adorable and the bickering between him and Bunnymund is just great.
Katherine's adoptive father is named Ombric Shalazar and he's this really cool old wizard whose magic permeates every square inch of the town they live in, Santoff Claussen. He's a really great character, as well, and I'm sad he wasn't included in the movies, either. It's not really said whatever happened to Katherine's real parents, but perhaps in an upcoming book they'll reveal a bit of her backstory. It is implied, however, that she is to become Mother Goose due to both her storytelling expertise and her companionship with a giant goose named Kailash.
As for Jack's age, I'm not sure on the specifics but I at least know he mentioned somewhere about Jack being 14 physically in the books. I'm not sure if that has changed over the years with the more recent progression of the book series but that's what I heard around the time when the movie came out, at least.
Nightlight really is a wonderful character, also. I'm sure with William Joyce's beautiful imagination, he'll surely think of something amazing to iron out the details.
Don't worry, I completely understand about writing fanfiction pairing yourself with a fictional character. I've done it on numerous occasions. A few years back, I tried doing the same sort of thing, writing a fanfic that paired Jack Frost and myself together. I never got around to finishing it, though. I'm currently working on a fanfic that pairs a version of myself with another fictional character of a different fandom, however, so still in the same general boat there haha I think Jack Overland would definitely still go for a quieter girl like the two of us, though. I can see him being intrigued by someone more introverted, their quiet nature coming off as mysterious. He'd be curious to know more about her and spend time with her, to crack her out of her shell and understand who she is as a person, why she's so quiet, and to become someone very special to her. Obviously Jack Overland doesn't have the experience and desperation for a bond that Frost has so the relationship would probably be a bit more carefree but at his age and during the time period, he would probably be reaching a point where he's expected to find a nice girl and work towards settling down since many people married and began having families at very young ages in the 1700s (due to shorter life spans). But yeah, so in a nutshell, I think Overland would definitely still fall for a girl like us xD

Yeah, it would have been cute to see him fall for a human, even though I don't feel romance is necessary for this movie. I wonder what she would have been like? Hopefully us? XD I saw the deleted storyboards showed the girl ice skating and Jack drew a frost heart around her on the ice! Yes, it would have been depressing though since she probably would have never believed in him, therefore never loving him back. Ugh, Tooth's fawning was so unnecessary...Jack almost seemed a bit weirded out by it, but that just might be me. From what I could find, they only made two nods to the flirting in the commentary (which from the word choices they used, one was definitely one sided from Tooth's part, but it's possible the other was too), and said Guillermo del Toro wanted a love story for them (he wanted ANY love story for Jack). I just don't consider them canon. Jack showed no signs of returning Tooth's feelings, and I think she only has those type of feelings because of his teeth. Even the hug at the end felt more like happy family members hugging out of excitement. I saw Tooth trying to look in his eyes but it didn't seem like Jack was flirting back...just smiling and accepting her gesture since his new "family" just defeated Pitch and now he finally feels like he belongs. Idk, I just might be spouting nonsense because I don't seriously ship any of the guardians together. They are meant to be a family in my opinion, the family Jack longed for. Though pairing them for lulz can be fun. XD
Exactly. Yeah, it's not as rare as poor Jack x Violet! Oh, you don't like Jelsa? I'm kinda neutral to that pairing. It's pretty overrated though. Really?! I think it makes sense that they would be a match made in hell but I ship it anyway! XD I think the reasons you listed are why I like it somehow. The whole dynamic that both their lives revolve around fear really is intriguing to me. I sorta prefer it one sided where Pitch loves Elsa and she's like "EW HELL NO!" XD
Yes, I agree. In a few scenes, she stood next to North looking at Jack looking like proud parents! XD Yeah, I think North would need someone a bit more mature. That's pretty cool! Aw, that sounds adorable! He bickers with Bunny? Haha!
He sounds awesome! From what you've said, the movie didn't do the books justice that well (except for making Jack so damn perfect XD), but it is still pretty good. Maybe her real parents died or something? I bet Joyce will clear it up. Mother Goose? That sounds cool! She has a giant goose friend?! XD
Oh, he is physically 14? I guess that means I'm a freaking pedo...O.o Maybe it did change? Joyce will probably clear that up, too, along with everything else.
Oh, you've done it, too?! Us fangirls gotta stick together! Which character are you pairing yourself with now? You make some more great points! Thanks for sharing them with me! I find it hard to think of what kind of girl Frost or Overland would like myself since I'm fairly new to this fandom and my love for him is still young, so that's why I asked you. XD Plus, many people tend think differently and it made me feel insecure lol. I'm just wondering if Overland could sense if my character is 'the one' when he first meets her, or is the sensing someone is special thing specific to Frost? Ok, I'll keep working on my fic then! I've already drawn two pics of him and I that I will post in the future. XD

Well, yeah, I agree, romance definitely isn't necessary and the more I think of it, despite how cute it would've been to see him fall for a human, a romance would've taken away from the real scope of the story. Perhaps in another storyline but not in the one for the movie. Tooth's fangirling was already too much as it was. The first time I watched the movie, the flirting went right over my head honestly. It wasn't until I started getting more involved in the fandom and looking up art and fanfics that I discovered people shipped Jack and Tooth and after that point, I couldn't unsee it. Unfortunately, it tainted the movie for me a bit but I mean, obviously not enough for me to turn my nose up at it or anything. I know a lot of people who ship it have made the case that the little exchange they have at the very end (she hugs him, he smiles back, and then she looks flustered or surprised) is her realizing he has feelings back for her or something like some sort of silent confirmation but I mean, I try not to believe that there's any sort of connection between them like that. The idea of them together just irks me completely. I especially prefer her as more of a mother or sister figure to him because of his relationship with Baby Tooth, as well, since many fans have speculated that Baby Tooth is Jack's sister reincarnated. Since Baby Tooth is basically an extension of or a child of Tooth, seeing him and her together with that in mind just comes off as incestual to me.
In regards to Jelsa, I started off neutral about it like I am with most other Jack ships I'm not into but it got to the point where some of the shippers became hostile, hijacking any shippy Jack post that wasn't Jelsa and fuming at people who shipped anything else. They even made petitions for Disney and Dreamworks to team up and make a movie of Jack and Elsa together. It was getting so out of hand that I actually had a friend of mine (whose a mom and not really involved with the sort of fandom stuff that goes on on deviantART and Tumblr and such) point to Jack Frost on the movie cover and ask "Isn't that Elsa's boyfriend?" I nearly ripped her head off. So yeah, hence why I cannot stand the ship for the life of me. If anything, THAT'S what really tainted RotG for me, seeing the stupid ship fucking EVERYWHERE and having experiences like the aforementioned. The same sort of thing is the reason why I also have an insane dislike for Frozen (that and the way Disney has oversaturated nearly every square inch of the parks with it and shoved it down everyone's throats for three years now).
I definitely think North and Tooth have some potential, though, regardless of whether we're talking book or movie verse mainly because of that parental quality they both have. And yeah, North and Bunny bicker quite a bit in the books-- it's pretty amusing, truthfully.
I will forever love the movie and think it's one of if not the most beautifully animated film ever but it's link to the books is a little lackluster. The universe in the books is much richer culturally than in the movies, they explore a lot more of the Guardians' world and their origins but that's not to say that the movie didn't do a phenomenal job telling a beautiful story
I'm assuming Katherine's real parents probably died-- maybe they did mention something about it in the books and I just can't remember. It's been about two years or so since I've read them, honestly. But yeah, she's implied to become Mother Goose which I absolutely love. In one of the books she meets her goose friend, Kailash, who if I remember correctly she saved during one of the book's adventures. Kailash is absolutely adorable, though, and her and Katherine's friendship is the cutest thing.
In the books, I believe Jack's physically 14 but I know in the movies he's supposed to physically be about 17 or 18-- information varies by source but that's the general gist
I'm glad you decided to ask me for my opinions, by the way! I love talking about Jack and dishing out advice and whatever knowledge I have of him. I've been in the fandom for about three or so years now, I guess? It's been a while haha so I've definitely racked up some experience on the subject, I think. The one piece of advice I do have, though, is not to worry about what other people think in regards to your story or whether you're afraid other people won't think Jack and you/your self-based OC are right together because, like you said, everyone has their own opinions but what other people think doesn't really matter so long as what you're writing makes you happy!
As for the sensing thing, I think Overland probably would have some sense of whose "the one" but I mean, not to any supernatural degree like most people. I'm not sure what level of experience you have with the whole relationship scene but I know that in most cases, when you find someone you're convinced is "the one", there's a very distinct feeling that sits in the pit of your stomach and courses through your veins like you just *know* but it's a sensation I think everyone gets when they find who they're positive they're meant to spend the rest of their life with so I'm thinking that nothing beyond that would be natural for Overland
In regards to the fanfic I'm working on now, I've reverted back to my Narnia roots and have been chipping away at a fanfic idea I've had since I was 14 that pairs a self-based OC of mine with Peter Pevensie <3 I had started writing it way back then in my freshman year of high school but I sort of drifted out of the fandom before I could get past chapter two. The idea has been collecting dust in the back of my mind for five years since, though, so when I got tossed back into the Narnia fandom this past December, I decided to dig up the idea and start working on it again. I'm honestly insanely glad I never got very far back when I was a kid, though, because my writing skills have improved astronomically since and compared to now, I never would've been able to do the thing justice if I had poured so much time and effort into writing it back then. So far it's been going along pretty well but it's only about halfway finished and that's just the first installment of it so there's definitely a long road ahead but I'm super pleased so far haha

Yes, it would have taken away from the story. That's probably why they took out the love interest in the first place. Ugh, I know, right? But they HAD to show that Jack was a heartthrob (it's not like the audience could decide that themselves Β ). It makes me wonder if there are other female spirits that are attracted to Jack...or maybe he was a heartthrob as a human...or both? Yeah, it went over my head, too. I can relate so much to how you feel about it, because I can't unsee it either even though I want to. It kinda tainted the movie for me, too, but I still love it to pieces. You should expect that kind of comment from biased shippers though. They see things that aren't really there or exaggerate it so much that it messes with your head and ruins your view of something. Tooth looked surprised when she hugged Jack because she was realizing she just glomped him, not that he had feelings for her. He accepted her hug and smiled because the guardians were his family at that point and they had just defeated Pitch. I doubt the flirting came from his side because there is nothing else in the movie that hints Jack feels that way about her, so adding flirtation out of nowhere from his side would be out of place. Plus, those two didn't interact THAT much. To make a well paced love story for Jack, they need to show more obvious hints from both parties and take the whole movie to build it up. Of course, they decided against that because that would have taken away so much from the story. I completely agree that Jack and Tooth just don't belong together in a romantic way. I prefer her as a mother/sister figure, too. I've thought of that before, too! Even my MOM said that baby tooth is his sister reincarnated! Though she fangirls over him...that confuses me. That is actually a very good point that further proves Tooth is like a mother figure! I know we aren't the only ones who think that she is.
It seems like a lot of people are turned off of Jelsa because of the rabid fans. They can really ruin crap for others. Idk why it hasn't bothered me that much yet...I'm honestly more bothered by the big four, specifically Jackunzel (I think their rabid fans can get just as bad as Jelsa...and like you said before, a girl like her might feel like competition and/or get annoying for Jack after a while...I can only see them as friends). Who put the big four together and why them specifically? At least I can see where Jelsa came from, but the big four? I have no idea. It probably annoys me because I'm just exposed to that side of the fandom more than the Jelsa side for whatever reason. Anyway, I can understand why you dislike it. I think I would, too, if people shoved it in my face more. As for the ship itself, disregarding the fans, what do you think of Jack and Elsa's personalities together?
Yeah, I think it could be possible. I wouldn't be opposed to it. Ha! I bet their bickering is pretty funny! Since that's Jack's job in the movie, it must be kind of different though.
Yes, the movie has some gorgeous animation and artistic detail. I love Jack's story so much, but I wish we saw more of his past. Even though I haven't read the books, I'll trust what you say about the culture and backstory being richer.
Poor Katherine if her parents did die. Mother Goose sounds pretty awesome! It sounds adorable! I just realized that would be ANOTHER similarity I have with Katherine then. We both have feathered companions! (I have three pet birds!)
That's what I've heard, too. I wonder if it's an inconsistency or something?
I'm glad I decided to ask you, too, and aren't bothered by it! I'm LOVING this conversation, and I'm happy you are, too! I don't really have anybody else to fangirl and talk over this stuff with. You seem pretty knowledgeable about it, and not biased since you actually give solid reasons unlike a rabid shipper's weak ones. Three years, huh? I've only been around this fandom since around Christmas time. Thanks for the advice! I'll try my best to not let others bother me, but I am kinda sensitive when it comes to stuff like that. I actually have another self insert OC I want to pair with a character (Invader Zim) but I have been a bit nervous. I think I'll gather my courage one of these days though. You're right, my happiness is what matters. I made the character/story for me, not someone else.
So you think Frost's sensing ability/being drawn to people is supernatural and given by the Man in the Moon and he didn't have it when he was a human? Or he had it but not as strong? Eh...I have barely any relationship experience. I never really found any guy I was interested in as more than a friend or a small crush. I never really saw the point in dating unless you had REALLY strong feelings and the relationship was going to be serious. I must be pretty weird/old fashioned...or I just want to avoid heartbreak/getting too attached to someone when the relationship isn't serious. Enough of my babbling. So you think Overland would sense who the one is just by meeting her? Does that mean sensing who is the one is like love at first sight? I've seen a lot of people who say that doesn't exist but idk. I just want to make the love between them as realistic as I can. Also, I have a random question. Where do you think Overland got his staff from? I saw William Joyce say something about a willow tree on the ancient burial grounds of Mohican Indians, but did he mean that's where Nightlight got it after he became Jack Frost? I'm so confused...many people even say GoC and RotG are alternate universes of each other because of these plot holes/contradicting canons. Hopefully that doesn't mean the same for the whole Katherine type love interest thing. Just imagine if GoC Jack likes a girl like Katherine/us but RotG Jack likes a girl like Tooth...then again, it depends on how similar GoC Jack is to RotG Jack. If Joyce had planned this all along and created Jack for the movie since the books weren't ready yet, they are probably going to be the same character, just with a different background...right? Maybe I'm looking into this too much?
Narnia? Oh, I remember how popular that was when I was younger! I think I vaguely remember Peter! Going back to old ideas/fandoms can be pretty fun! I returned to the Pokemon fandom last year after a chunk of my teen years. I know what you mean about writing improvement! I look back at old things and I cringe so much. XD I'm glad Jack has only been out a few years...I didn't get to butcher writing him!Β Β Yeah, fanfics are long roads, but as long as it makes you happy!

Truthfully, I feel like having him without any love interest whatsoever would've been better for us fangirls because I feel like it would be way more intriguing. Attractive character with great storyline whose single but just out of our reach because, you know, animated. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels the same way about this, though. It's DEFINITELY a relief knowing someone else understands! You make a really good point about the hug, too. I never thought of it that way before but I definitely like it much better than what many fans have said! As for the case with Baby Tooth, I know most fans use her and Jack's sister's matching beauty marks as a point along with her and Jack's special bond. I think it would be phenomenal for them to explore that a bit more in a potential sequel, Jack and Baby Tooth's friendship.
I don't mind the Big Four quite so much, though I don't really ship Jack with anyone (except maybe Hiccup but I'm not as active in the Hijack fandom, I just think the artwork and stuff is pretty cute). From what I know, the Big Four was conceived through a piece someone on deviantART had made a few years back grouping Jack, Hiccup, Merida, and Rapunzel together because they were the top four CGI characters from the most recent Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks films. From there, the thing sort of just took flight. I like them all as friends best but I do admit, there are a few pairings from the Big Four I like the idea of. I know a lot of people try to squeeze Anna and Elsa in there, too, but I don't really care for that addition. As for Jack and Elsa together, I honestly don't see much of the appeal between the two of them. They have similarities, yes, but the way I see it, Elsa has this maturity about her that I feel like would clash with Jack's carefree and irresponsible nature and lead to a lot of friction and annoyance between the two of them. If I had to pin any relationship on them, it would be more of a brother/sister one, truthfully. I feel like Jack and Anna have a lot of similar qualities and I'd pair them together more than Jack and Elsa (though my disdain for Frozen is pretty strong so I'm not big on Jack having affiliation with the movie whatsoever-- some people out there who don't know better actually think Jack and Elsa are from the same movie and polls to have Disney and Dreamworks make them canon have even made it into professionally published teen magazines). I just have a lot of disdain for Frozen and Jelsa in general, though, so it's difficult for me to have an unbiased opinion on the matter.
The bickering isn't too far from the movie, actually. North and Bunny already have enough qualms about whether Christmas or Easter is better, so that rivalry stays true to the books.
Mother Goose is pretty awesome That's really cool that you have that similarity with Katherine, too, about the birds!
His age could definitely be an inconsistency. A part of me wonders if that dissonance between the movies and books is why William Joyce came up with Jack's aging up/down power? Either way, I'm sure he'll come up with a way to iron it out.
Yeah! I'm really enjoying this conversation and how we can just vibe and it's super relaxed without the pressure of conforming to someone else's opinions like a lot of conversations on this sort of subject run the risk of reaching haha I guess I'd like to think I'm pretty knowledgeable about Jack and the Guardians probably because of how long I've been in the fandom. But yeah, about your fanfic, I say go for it. Like I said, if it makes you happy, then nothing else really matters!
I was the same way about relationships for the longest time. I liked the idea of dating someone but I never found anyone in reality who I had strong enough feelings for. Granted, that changed about two years ago but I actually have Jack Frost to thank for it. When I was in my junior year of high school, I was going through this really rough time and Jack Frost was my crutch to help me make it through. I'm not very religious but one night I did something very rare and even though I knew it was ridiculous, I prayed that one someday I would find Jack Frost in the flesh so I could hug him and thank him for everything he had done for me. Not too long afterwards, I was walking to English class and I spotted this guy in the halls who was the spitting image of Jack-- blue eyes, bleached hair, pale skin, tall and thin, the whole enchilada. Long story short, he was in my best friend's art class, she got his number for me, and though the past two years haven't been picture perfect, we've basically been love interests ever since. I knew the exact moment I saw him, though, that me and him were meant to end up together so I mean, even if Overland doesn't have the supernatural abilities the Man in the Moon gifted him, I think if he met the girl he was supposed to spend his life with, something in him would click and he would know immediately even if he doesn't recognize the feeling at first, you know? Most people say love at first sight doesn't exist but I honestly beg to differ mainly because I'm positive I've experienced it firsthand. Maybe it's a hit-or-miss type of situation or maybe it's something rare that only certain people really experience, who knows? I can honestly say, though, that I at least believe in love at first sight.
I'm not sure if there's any deadset canonical backstory on where his staff came from but the great part is that if you're unsure, you can always just make it up! I can assure that nobody would mind if you created your own backstory for where he got his staff and some people may even really fall in love with your headcanon I think it's all a matter of interpretation. I do, however, know that Nightlight also possessed a staff similar to Jack's and I think in the picture book, it's shown to be the same staff which he carries as Jack Frost but I guess that's a whole can of worms regarding book!verse vs. movie!verse. To keep things a little less complicated, I would probably choose to write either strictly in book or movie verse (in your case, I'm guessing movie!verse since you haven't read the books yet and are more familiar with the movie). You don't want to overcomplicate things for yourself because I can assure you, you'll just end up getting yourself stressed-- god only knows I've made the same mistake on multiple occasions haha
Yeah! Here's a memory refresher of who Peter is: mxcdn02.mundotkm.com/2015/08/p⦠Narnia's been deeply rooted in me for a good ten and a half years now, truthfully (eleven if you count from when I read the books) so I'm not all too surprised I fell back into the fandom. Peter was my bae long ago, though, when I was a little kid and ever since the affection has fluctuated through the years. I always loved writing stories about a version of myself and Peter Pevensie falling in love and shit like that, though, so I'm insanely pleased that I can go back to a great idea I had ages ago and really do it justice now. Writing it definitely makes me happy, though, and so far it's been going really, really well. I'm working on polishing up the eleventh chapter and chipping away at the twelfth, and so far it's reached about 82 pages and a word count of roughly 48,330 words (excluding the beginnings of chapter 12). I only just started working on it February so I'm honestly pretty pleased with how much work I've done so far

Yeah, it would have been intriguing and we wouldn't feel any jealousy! XD Truthfully though, I do consider him single. There was no concrete evidence he liked Tooth back and even the directors didn't confirm anything but a little flirting, which may be one sided but they didn't specify. I think William Joyce once said somewhere that Jack is naive and doesn't understand romantic love, so maybe he didn't even notice Tooth was flirting in the first place but just being nice. I've teased/flirted with guys before that I wasn't in love with, too, so that could be possible as well. I don't even think anyone wanted romance except for Guillermo del Toro, so they threw in Tooth's fangirling crap to make him happy since the cut out the actual love interest. I also heard somewhere that they did try to shoehorn Tooth in as the love interest since the human got cut, but as we can see there was no love story. Trust me, it's a relief to me, too! I used to feel like EVERYBODY that isn't a Jelsa shipper likes rainbowsnowcone other than me. I'm glad you proved that wrong! Actually, it isn't my point, but something I saw on the RotG script. The exact quote is "Tooth comes flying in to give Jack a hug. She lifts him off the ground as they embrace. They share a moment and she soon recoils with giddy embarrassment as Baby Tooth interjects." Trust me, I like it better than what biased shippers have said, too! Yes, I wish we could see more of Jack's past and his sister. I wonder what kind of personality she had? I don't think Baby Tooth's beauty mark being the same as his sister's is just a coincidence. Plus, he chose that baby out of all the others to befriend.
So that's where it came from? I finally have an answer! That artist must be pretty popular if they started a whole side of a fandom! I just don't ship any of them together. I can't see any of them being together...
I agree about Elsa being too mature for Jack. I mean, maturity paired with Jack is ok, but when it gets to Elsa's level...nah. It's just too much of a mental age gap. A brother and sister relationship would suit them well. Are you saying you think Jack and Anna would be good together, or that they are the lesser of the two evils? I think he would mesh with Anna better than Elsa too because of her fun loving nature, but I feel like her naivety of everything in life might annoy him a little. Plus, she is that energetic type you said that might feel like competition to him, right? I understand. I'm easily irritated, too, so I'd probably dislike Frozen and Jelsa too if I were exposed to it more...but for now I'm neutral. I heard another Disney princess movie is coming out, too, so it's possible it could slow down the Frozen craze.
That's true, but they didn't bicker that much in the movie compared to Jack and Bunny. They just disagreed...unless I'm forgetting something...
She sure sounds like it! Yeah, when I had that realization, I got excited! XD
I didn't think of that! That could be why he can age up and down...but does that mean Jackson Overland was 14 when he died, or that was the age Nightlight was created to be before he became Jack?
I feel exactly the same! I've been told by people before that I'm pretty chill, so it's nice having a conversation with someone else of my kind. XD That's a reason why I usually don't talk to anyone in this fandom...conforming to opinions. Many people are passionate and biased about their ships and don't try to look at anything from other points of view. They get hostile and defensive when you don't conform to their opinions. Talking to you is different than that, and that's why I'm enjoying this conversation. Yes, you do seem pretty knowledgeable about Jack! I will try my best to write a fic that makes me happy. Idk if I'll post it online, but I might draw pictures of certain scenes and share excerpts.
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that! WOW, that's an interesting story! Does the guy act like Jack, too? I wish I could find my real life Jack Frost. Ok, I understand what you mean now. If it's a rare thing people experience, I bet Overland would still experience it because I feel if he has supernatural sense while being a spirit, he probably had something when he was a human, too, but it was enhanced when the Man in the Moon brought him back. My parents also claim love at first sight is real, too, but I wanted another opinion haha. I think I'll give it a shot in my fanfic, but to make the pacing better, I'll have it so they get the vibes for each other but don't understand what they mean for a while. I figure Jack is as naive in love as I am.
Ok, I'll probably go through with my original plan of making the Overlands a family of shepherds. Jack will receive the staff as a gift since he is actually excited to tend to his own sheep one day. There's another random note I want to add...where was Jack's father in all of his memories? Oh, so Nightlight had a staff? That's probably what Joyce was talking about then with the willow tree. I'll use my headcanon then. That's a good idea, I think I'll write strictly the movie!verse. Yes, I want this fanfic to be anything but stress.
Hm...I think I remember the Narnia books more than the movie! Aw, young love, huh? I can relate to the story writing thing. It's fun to get creative and insert yourself in a fictional world. It's a nice escape. I want to draw some scenes from my fanfic I'll be writing to visualize it even more. That IS a lot of work! Good for you! I gotta get working on mine.

Exactly! I've never actually looked through the script so it's definitely relieving to see that commentary during the hug scene. Hopefully in a sequel, they can add in some more flashbacks of Jack and his sister, though I imagine her having a similar personality to Baby Tooth especially because of all the links between the two of them.
I remember finding the art piece that started the Big Four way back before the entire fandom got big and I actually remember it very distinctly, I just don't remember who drew it or what the title was or else I'd link you to it haha I really like the friendship between all of them, though, if nothing else. They all have certain similarities and yet are vastly different so I think they go pretty well together as a collective xD
Exactly. Whenever I think of Jack and Elsa together, I just have these mental images of her trying to run her country and make alliances with other kingdoms and Jack constantly pestering her to fly the world with him and throw snowballs at unsuspecting citizens or something. Their compatibility just does not compute with me. As for Jack and Anna, they're more of the lesser of two evils in my mind. I prefer them as more of a brother/sister relationship, as well, mainly for the reasons you mentioned. They would definitely have fun together but as a couple, I'm not really into it. Plus, as much as I hate Frozen, I thought Anna and Kristoff were absolutely adorable together. Hopefully the Frozen craze finally does die down, though, with all the new Disney films out now and upcoming. Zootopia broke the billion dollar mark at the box office (Frozen was the only other Disney film to do that) so hopefully we see some more of that in the parks and merchandising and everything, and then Finding Dory just came out so big hopes that helps, as well. Moana is the new princess movie being released in November, Disney's first Polynesian princess, and I have VERY high hopes it does really well at the box office. I would gladly take Moana over Frozen any day, even if the movie hasn't even come out in theaters yet. Like most people, I didn't mind all the Frozen stuff at first and I actually initially really liked it but now it's gotten to the point where there's just so much overhaul, it's disgusting. Especially in the parks, which I'm a pretty frequent visitor to as an annual passholder. Anna and Elsa merchandise is everywhere even in areas of the park they have nothing to do with, the wait times for meeting them has been upwards of four hours, and that's not even the worst of it. They have an entire Frozen-themed summer celebration at the one park, last year they converted an entire building at Hollywood Studios into a Frozen-themed ice skating rink and gift shop and had a Frozen parade, Frozen nighttime fireworks, and they converted an entire other building into a Frozen sing-along theater show. Blizzard Beach, one of the water parks, has gone completely Frozen-themed for the summer and, perhaps the worst of all and what angers me the most, the entire Norway pavilion in Epcot has been stripped of all of it's cultural representaiton in favor of Frozen. The Maelstrom boat ride they had has been removed in favor of Frozen Ever After, the store is filled with Frozen merchandise, and they took an entire chunk of backstage area to build a 1300 square foot Frozen meet and greet building. The only other thing in the Norway pavilion is the Akershus restaurant, the character dining place with the Disney princesses that, again, has nothing to do with Norway whatsoever. So yeah, to say I'm pretty pissed and over Frozen would be a stark understatement and it's only going to get worse. In California, they removed the long-standing Aladdin stage show and replaced it with Frozen, they have Frozen on the Disney cruise line and a special trip now to Norway where they actually have converted the country's Disney port into Frozen-land to even actual Norway is becoming Frozen-fied, and Disney is already working on a Broadway show and a sequel. It just never. Fucking. Stops. And it makes me want to bash my head in. It's just too much. *cries*
North and Bunny bickered every so often in the movie but Jack and Bunny definitely argued more often. But then again...character development xD
I'm not sure about the specifics on Jack's aging abilities or how they tie into Overland and Nightlight but I want to say it depends on the verse. I think in movie!verse, Overland was around 17 when he died and then became Jack Frost, and then in book!verse Nightlight is probably physically 14 and then evolved into Jack Frost. I'm not completely positive on that, though.
I know exactly what you mean. There's nothing wrong with being passionate but when it includes imposing your own opinions on other people, then it just goes straight into douchery in my opinion. I feel like as a whole, people these days just can't seem to grasp the concept that it's okay to have differences in opinion and that not everyone is going to agree with your thoughts and views. I'm glad you're enjoying our conversation, though, and I'm glad I can share some unbiased and factual knowledge about Jack with you ^_^ Whatever you decide to do with the fic, though, I'm sure it'll turn out great!
Truthfully, he kind of does act like Jack. Not nearly as reckless but he has the same rapidfire wit and caring nature. He doesn't bleach his hair anymore, though, and we're older now than we were back then so these days he's looking a bit more like Overland when he shaves and Flynn Rider when he doesn't which, truthfully, I do not have a problem with, either xD Don't worry, I'm sure one day you'll find your Jack Frost. He'll probably pop up when you least expect him to I think it is definitely plausible to say Jack would be pretty naive in love, though, so I think pacing the romance like that is a really good way to go. That's how I've been doing it in my current fanfic, as well. I think it helps add some dimensionality and realism to the relationship. While I don't have much more experience in relationships than you do, if you ever need some help trying to figure out the emotional aspect of it, I'm always happy to help!
I think making the Overlands a family of shepherds is definitely a good idea. I know that thought has crossed my mind, as well, so I think if you do decide to post it, it's a headcanon many people will be on board with. As for Jack's father, I'm not quite sure where he was. People have a lot of different ideas about it like saying maybe he was a hunter and was always out hunting food for his family or working in other appropriate occupations for the time or something. Overall, though, I think it's safe to say whatever you want to do about his father is free reign. Nightlight's staff in the books is part of the reason why a lot of people early on speculated some sort of link between him and Jack before it was confirmed they were the same person. Nightlight's staff had always been a little different, however, and held a moonbeam in it that was considered a separate character as he was sentient (and quite frankly, pretty adorable). The picture book doesn't really elaborate on the change, however, as it outlines the story of how Nightlight became Jack Frost when he fell into a frozen lake after a difficult duel with Pitch, evolved into Jack Frost and lost his memories, and throughout the story, the staff just sort of changes in the pictures without much of an explanation. I don't know, I'm hoping the novels shed some light on all of that and elaborate a little more but until then, we have the picture book to reference.
The Narnia movies definitely took some creative liberties compared to the books but I think they're both pretty wonderful and I'm eagerly awaiting the day they finally film and release the next movie (which hasn't been since 2010 due to a lot of legal crap regarding film rights and shit that is too boring and extensive to go into detail of for now XD). Drawing scenes from your fic is definitely a fantastic way to help rev yourself up for working on the story, though. I've done the same with many of my fanfics, specifically the one I'm working on now since it's pretty long already and only going to get longer. Instead of drawing out the scenes, though, I've been leaning more towards photo manips and videos just because it's easier for me to visualize scenes witih real people in this instance xD It really does help a ton, though!

That's why you should always look at official sources for things and not listen to biased fans. Idk if a sequel will ever be made, but it would be nice to see more of Overland and his family! Yeah, I can see his sister being similar to baby tooth, but do you think it's possible if she is baby tooth that her personality changed at all?
Another topic I need to add that I found out about is apparently Joyce revealed Tooth has a sister in the books named Vanish. The exact words he said were "The tooth fairy has a little sister. Her name is Vanish. she's kid of wild and drives jack crazy. But in a way he can't quite figure out. She's very fun and very brave but she gives him such grief. There are several partners that jack is drawn to. He does not realize it but he is deeply lonely and he doesn't want to stay alone." He also said about Jack, "He is naive. And innocent. He doesn't understand romantic love. But he's starting to have feelings that confuse and confound him." Does this mean Jack is going to fall for Vanish? If so, I guess that means he is into energetic girls and not someone like us. Or her flirting is opening him up to the idea of romance in general and he wants it. Or maybe it has nothing to do with romance at all but he is driven crazy by the fact he doesn't want to be alone and desperately wants to be her friend. I also found out that Joyce is thinking about writing the "after story" of RotG. I wonder what will come of that. I NEED YOUR OPINION!
I'm still surprised an artist is what started the big four craze. I guess they aren't that bad together as friends, but it's still overrated to me.
Now that you put it that way...they really aren't that good together. I haven't really thought of Jelsa much before except for the fact her maturity might make things difficult, but your explanation really opens my eyes. Yeah, Jack and Anna would be good friends, but I can't see them falling in love because she might annoy him with her naivety. Anna, maybe, but only because she falls in love with every handsome guy she sees. I like Anna and Kristoff, too. Yeah, those movies have been pretty popular and might bring Frozen out of the spotlight. Yeah, Moana is what I was talking about. She is so pretty, and the movie looks funny! Wow, I never knew Disney did that stuff to their parks. Now I can understand why you feel the way you do about Frozen more.
Yeah, that character development was nice. XD
Ok, I'll go with that. I was actually going to make Overland turn 18 a few weeks before he died in my fic.
Exactly! Sharing opinions is fine, but don't force them onto others. It's up to them if they want to believe in your opinion too or not. I feel many people don't understand that, either. I'm glad your an exception...though I agree with a lot of what you say anyway. XD I sure am enjoying it, and I'm glad you like talking about Jack so much! He is bae! XD Thanks! I hope it will turn out how I want.
He sounds great! Oh, I'd love a guy that looks like Overland. <3 I hope I do find mine. It seems like everyone my age are in serious relationships or are already married. Yes, I will be going in that direction in my fic. Thanks for your willingness to help!
Yeah, I've been planning on making them shepherds for a while now, so I think I'll just go through with it. I think I'll go with his father being a hard worker and he just isn't home that much. Another thing I can't decide on is how poor/rich to make his family. From his flashbacks I saw in the movie, it almost looked like his home was close to the lake, not in the town square. Plus, if I make him a shepherd, his family is going to need some land for that. I also found out that marriage in the colonial era was about land and money, not love. Idk if I should make him a peasant that his family spent all of their wealth on their land or make him have something to offer. I also don't know if I should have the other girls swoon over him since he apparently is a heartthrob. Not sure if I should make his house a one room cabin or have a few rooms.
Is that so? That is probably what Joyce was talking about then because I remember when he said the staff came from a willow tree, he also said the staff was his friend. Ok, I'll just consider what he said book!verse and not use it in my fic.
Wow, people have been waiting since 2010 for the next Narnia movie? Ridiculous! Yes, I will probably be drawing a lot from my fic. Photo manips sound cool, but idk how haha. I bet it does help a lot!

Yeah! I'd especially love to see more of Jack's parents, too, if we're lucky enough to see more of his past in a possible sequel. If his sister is Baby Tooth reincarnated, I mean, I suppose there could be some personality differences. I think it all depends on the circumstance, like depending on prior character development or something, but I think their personalities would definitely remain similar if not exactly alike xD
I saw that about Vanish, as well, and was also kind of disappointed by what Joyce said about their relationship. I took it as a romance thing just by the way he worded it but the sentence "There are several partners that Jack is drawn to" gives me some hope. It makes me wonder if he simply feels attracted towards multiple different types of girls and an energetic fairy is just one of them. His deep relationship with Katherine during his Nightlight days obviously cannot go unnoticed further into the series (AND I'M PUTTING A SPOILER ALERT RIGHT HERE JUST IN CASE YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS IN THE BOOKS) especially since Katherine and Nightlight do legitimately kiss near the end of Sandman's book (SPOILER ALERT FINISHED). So regardless of whatever else Joyce says about Jack and his potential relationships, knowing of him and Katherine's bond still gives me hope that whether he has a million love interests or just a few, that a quiet, creative bookworm like us is a contender in his love life.
I guess the Big Four's origin just goes to show the power of art in the community haha I can definitely see your perspective on it, though, especially if you've been exposed to a lot of Big Four related material, shipping or otherwise. If it's any consolation, however, I feel like the fandom has definitely dwindled a bit over the years. When I first entered it, it was certainly a much livelier place than it is today. Even though I'm not as active in the fandom anymore, though, I do have to at least say that I have the Big Four to thank for introducing me to Jack Frost. At the time, I adored Rapunzel and Merida (I still do, fervently) but I had never seen Rise of the Guardians or How to Train Your Dragon so when I found fanart of the four of them together, it piqued my curiosity, one thing led to another, and before I knew it I was Jack Frost crazy xD
In regards to Jelsa, I think most people ship them together predominantly because they have the same powers and "look pretty" but I know a lot of shippers would argue that they think their character arcs are similar. While that may be true, I still just cannot picture the two of them together for the reasons I previously stated. I can definitely see Anna's naivete getting on Jack's nerves after a while, too. I feel like he would need someone a little more intellectual (like Violet... xD)-- Jack strikes me as the kind of guy who likes to learn new things but gets easily bored with actually sitting and reading books unless they have lots of engaging pictures in them, or at least that's what I've deduced from his energetic nature and interest in what Jamie was reading near the beginning of the movie. But yeah, as for Frozen in general, if the parks hadn't gone so ape shit with overhauling the merchandise and everything, I probably would still like it more than I do now but the way they just smothered everything in Elsa's face has gotten to the point where even my four year old cousins don't care for it much anymore and they used to ADORE Frozen. At this point, the only Frozen thing I can at least tolerate is Olaf solely because I thought his character was really cute and I can't bring myself to hate him. Kind of feel the same way about Sven, as well. Either way, though, I'm hoping Moana and Disney's other more recent films really help blow Frozen under the rug a bit more. I agree, Moana's character design is beautiful and the animation looks beautiful and I just have such high expectations for this movie. I believe Lin-Manuel Miranda (of Hamilton fame) wrote the music, as well, so I expect nothing but gorgeous, award-winning songs.
I think that's a good idea, making Overland turn 18 before he dies. I feel like that's a very plausible age for movie!verse (there's even a Rise of the Guardians activity book that claims he's 18) and plus, having a character who can legally be considered an adult means you have more freedom with writing him because there aren't necessarily legal constrictions on what he can and cannot do based on age that could be questionable (specifically from a sexual standpoint if you ever plan to go THAT far with his and your self-OC's relationship and such).
Well, I'm glad you understand the whole thing about subjectivity in opinions, too. It's nice having a mature and educated conversation with someone about something we're both passionate about but without the pressure to conform to one of our opinion's. Though it is nice having someone who shares the same viewpoints, as well XD And yes, Jack is absolutely bae XD
My crush honestly really is great :3 We've had some road bumps along the way regarding other relationships, bad timing, just life generally getting in the way, but as of right now we've reached a point where things are sort of quiet in the realm of interferences and we've actually been texting for nearly a month straight now and have grown so comfortable and open with each other, I feel like we're already in a relationship even if we haven't explicitly made anything official yet. I'm sure one day you'll find your Jack Frost, though. I firmly believe there is at least one person out there meant for everyone, they just pop up when you least expect them to. I completely understand where you're coming from about everyone else, though, because I've always felt the same way. Up until now, I've never had a boyfriend and the only relationships I ever really had were fictional ones that I wrote myself into via fanfiction. It's hard to believe it'll ever happen when everyone else is already in serious relationships and getting married but don't worry, it'll happen for you soon And I'm glad I could help!
Regarding the Overlands' financial stauts, I saw this post a while back (that I rediscovered while researching my answer here) that touches on the subject and brings to light a number of very good, detailed points that overall concludes the Overlands were fairly poor. Here's the link to it: rotg-analyzations.tumblr.com/p⦠The blog also has some other really great posts regarding details about the movie that would be great references for when you do more research for your fic As for the other points, I think it is pretty safe to say his house was practically right on the lake. I know a lot of people have pondered whether the deteriorating bed over the portal to Pitch's lair was Jack's from his human life, which could give some perspective to the location of his old home, but I'll let you decide for yourself on that matter. I'm not sure my opinion on that theory, myself. I can imagine their house would be small, perhaps just a big living space with kitchen essentials, a table and chairs, possibly a fireplace and Jack and his sister's beds off against the one wall or in a corner or something, with his parents having a small room of their own. Little House on the Prairie and the McFly's home in the third Back to the Future film, I think, would make good references when trying to imagine the design. Regarding relationships, if I remember correctly, I think I read a few headcanons someplace that Jack was definitely a heartthrob in the village and caught the attention of many girls but didn't really pay attention or care much due to his comparatively childish preoccupations, how he always hung out with the kids and entertained them and everything.
Yeah, I think that's probably what Joyce was referring to. When discerning book!verse from movie!verse, things can definitely get a little complicated and Jack's staff is no exception here xD
And yeah, people have been waiting since 2010 for the next Narnia movie so we're definitely getting kind of antsy about it haha I think they were planning for another sequel shortly afterward but there were a lot of roadbumps since the most recent movie did pretty poorly at the box office and then the contract between the production company and the author estate expired. They're working slowly towards the next movie with the first draft of the script written but there's still a long way to go and the next one is from an entirely new creative team so there's bound to be some differences compared to the three films out already, but here's to hoping they do not only the book but the previous three movies justice. The manips and videos definitely help, but the photo manips actually aren't too hard and there's tons of tutorials for beginners on Youtube to refer to. I've been certified in Photoshop for three years now so editing comes pretty easily to me (Photoshop certified and this is what I waste it on: ship edits XD) but the concept is pretty simple to grasp and with some practice, you'll be making some really awesome and realistic edits in no time. Photoshop is pretty pricey so I haven't been using it as much lately but there's a website called Pixlr that has an editing program pretty similar to Photoshop's and it's free so that's my recommended alternative xD

I would really love to see his parents! Yeah, good point!
You think Joyce meant Jack was starting to have feelings for Vanish? What if the several partners just means friendship and Vanish was the one to make him want it? She could also make him contemplate about love in general. Since he said she causes him grief, to me that proved your opinion that Jack would be annoyed with a girl like her and even if he gets a crush on her, it would probably be shallow and a bad match. Idk though...the "Vanish driving him crazy in a way he can't figure out" comment worries me. Could that have any other meaning? Idk if it could mean he is annoyed by her in a good way because he actually likes company, because he is supposed to be a loner, right? Also, the comment "he is starting to have feelings that confuse and confound him", is that directed towards Vanish herself, or did she cause him to start wanting to explore love in general because her flirting made him feel odd? It goes hand in hand with the "driving him crazy" comment. Yeah, I guess he is at the age where he might want to explore different types of girls? Maybe he doesn't have a type at all, but just knows when somebody is right for him? Maybe MULTIPLE girls drive him crazy, but he only mentioned Vanish for the time being. What if Joyce just starts pimping Jack?! XD There could be a contest or something to send in your self insert and have him put it in the story to be one of his lovers! XD Ok, enough joking. Yes, from what you told me, if they were in love, they will fall for each other again if it's strong and true. WHAT?!!! THEY KISS?!! OMG YES HE WILL GET THE FEELINGS THAT SHE IS THE ONE BY THE END, I BET!!! I'm actually glad I spoiled that for myself! XD Something else I just thought of, what if the feelings Vanish is making him feel aren't directed towards her even though he thinks it is, but they are remnants of what he feels for Katherine? Or maybe it will make him remember her? Idk that probably makes no sense. Yet another thing I noticed about Katherine and Jack is that Katherine is very young, but will become MOTHER goose? And another name for Jack Frost is OLD man winter even though he is young. Just an observation of irony. Yeah, but maybe Katherine/a girl like us aren't just a contender, but "the one"!
He just can't throw that bond away after a kiss! I almost wonder if book!Jack and movie!Jack could have different romantic preferences...I don't think so though.
Yeah, it is powerful! Yes, I have seen so much of it! Ugh...but I guess this is how you feel about Jelsa. Yay, we understand each other! I've heard other people say that, too, at least about Jackunzel. I wonder why I still see so much of it? Must be the places I look for Jack crap...haha Jack crap...I'll stop now. Oh, you found Jack through the big four? Yeah, Rapunzel and Merida are pretty cool! I was watching some clips on YouTube of their movies earlier actually.
I know how it is. I remember one night last December, I couldn't sleep. I noticed this artist I followed for quite a while kept posting drawings of Pitch, and I was actually kind of interested in the character. I looked it up, and saw he was from "that movie with Jack Frost in it". I kept hearing about Jack Frost all over the place, but never paid him any attention. I even saw another artist I admired put him in a top ten hottest animated characters list. That's when I finally decided, ok, I'm gonna look up this "Jack Frost". I typed his name in on here, and found a piece of art. I looked at it, and the feelings came to me immediately. It was love at first sight. I started fangirling and couldn't get over how attractive he was. A while later, maybe a week or something, I finally decided to watch the movie after I saw some clips and looked up some stuff about it. I loved it, and realized his personality is just as amazing as his looks, and that's how I became an official Jack Frost fangirl! XD
That's pretty much it. Ice powers and similar looks. That's what most comments I see say anyway. Yeah, I can't really see them together, either. Maybe in an AU though, where Elsa doesn't have responsibilities this large, but idk. I've seen people pair her with Overland, and make her brunette for it because apparently the creator said she'd be brunette without her ice powers, and I can't complain that much since she looks so much like me as one. XD Yeah, Anna just gets into too much trouble. Jack would get tired of having to worry about her. Yeah, an intellectual like Violet would be good for him. I can totally see him being that way, too. Yeah, idk why Elsa is so much more popular than Anna honestly. I've always preferred Anna for some reason. Maybe it's because we are both awkward? XD Anyway, even four year olds are tired of Frozen?! Just shows how ridiculously big things became I guess. Olaf is adorable. I'll forever love the quote "Some people are worth melting for".
Sven was cute, too. You just can't hate an animal...except if they are vicious for no reason. Something tells me Moana is going to be a BIG hit. Idk why, I just feel it coming.
Ok, I'll go through with it then! Yeah, idk if I'll go THAT far.
That's exactly how I feel, too. He sure is!
Well, that's nice things have gotten better. Most relationships do have hard times from what I understand, but make the most out of them, and you'll be good. If there is someone for me, I hope he comes sooner than later. XD Ha! That sounds just like me! I've only ever been into fictional characters. It's so frustrating...because I can't have them in reality. I hope so!
Thank you so much for the link! I'll definitely take a look at it! Omg...I never thought about that deteriorating bed before! That's a great theory! HEADCANON ACCEPTED! XD The thing is, if it was on the lake, wouldn't we have seen it when he first came back up as Jack Frost? Unless it was a bit further away. Yeah, I might go with that. The houses I saw in the movie looked pretty small. I should look up Little House on the prairie! Good idea! And you just brought up my favorite movie of all time, Back to the Future!
Well, the third one at least...the first is my fave, but the whole trilogy is fantastic. The Mcfly farm house was in 1885 though, and I am basing my story in the 1710s. The architecture is probably pretty different, but maybe they are similar...I mean, the Overlands are going to be shepherds so they need a type of farmhouse, right? Idk...I'm tired as I type this haha. Ok, I guess I'll make him a heartthrob then. Though I have pictured the girls thinking he is immature and weird and not liking him for that reason but only for his looks. Anyway, the only girl he will fall for though is me because of the fact he will feel she is the one and stop him in his tracks. XD I wonder how many girls his age were in that village? I guess I'll just make that up. I'm actually making up another character that will be the main villain. He is about a year older than my character and Jack, and he is a bully! I already planned a scenario where he pushes my OC in a well, and Jack gets so pissed that he fights him and their fathers have to break them apart! XD Another random headcanon I found someone else make is that Jack is a good fiddle player. I think I want to use that in my story, too! XD
Yes, I'll just stick with movie!verse.
Doing poorly at the box office is why they don't want to make a sequel to RotG, either. Sorry to say, but usually when there is a new crew, it won't feel the same or it might be disappointing. That's not to say it can't be great though. Who knows? Maybe I should look that up? Lucky, I should have gotten certified in Photoshop, not Microsoft crap. Ship edits aren't a waste if they give you happiness.
Plus, it's good practice for when you really need it. I actually have Photoshop CS2, so I can use that. I'm not very used to it, though. I always preferred making art and crap on Paint Tool Sai. I never really edited before, but I could give it a shot.

Honestly, I would love to see his parents, too. I know we get glimpses of his mother but I'd love to see both his mom and dad more in-depth, like clear views of what they look like and what kind of people they are.
I think all of those ideas have some potential. I want to say it's definitely safe to say Jack is attracted to multiple types of girls, though, since I know in another instagram post, Joyce said something about many women in history being infatuated with him and using one specific instance as an example: he said that famed dancer Isadora Duncan was so madly in love with him that she threated to jump into a volcano or something. So I want to believe that Joyce is preparing for Jack to have multiple love interests of all different personalities throughout his lifetime, which I think is pretty plausible since most people have multiple love interests throughout their life. I'm really rooting for Katherine to be his main love interest, though, because yes, he kisses her near the end of Sandman's book, though I won't spoil the reason behind it if you don't want me to-- all I'll say is that the circumstance in which it happens is very fairytale-esque. I've noticed the thing about Mother Goose and Old Man Winter before, as well, though, and I definitely love the idea of it xD
That's so sweet, though, how you came across him Mine was sort of similar in that in addition to the Big Four drawing my attention to him, two friends of mine saw the movie while it was in theaters and were talking about it one day so I got kind of curious because of that, as well. After I saw him in the Big Four, I started looking up clips from the movie and trying to find stuff out about him. I was interested but not totally head over heels yet. It wasn't until after all of that I basically fell straight in love with him. I made myself a replica of his hoodie and *attempted* to make a Baby Tooth (but that failed miserably and ended up looking HORRIBLE). This was all a week before the movie came out on DVD so I had to wait to see the entire thing but the very day it came out, my mom picked up the DVD for me (and it came with two little hopping egg toys xD) and I watched it and basically fell even more in love. My fangirling reached such a level that at one point, I wore my Jack Frost hoodie every single day and the week before I stared my junior year, I bought a new backpack, a blue one, and I spent a couple hours decking it out with white paint to match said hoodie (I still carry that very backpack around to this day). It got to the point where a little nobody like myself garnered the reputation around school as "that Jack Frost girl" and that's basically the legacy I left on my high school haha
Yeah, exactly. The Jelsa fans are honestly so rabid, too, it's ridiculous. To be quite honest, I've always preferred Anna over Elsa, too. Me and my best friend/sister-from-another-mister used to be super obsessed with Frozen when it first came out and we used to say we were each other's Anna and Elsa, though, but now we're just at the point where we couldn't be more sick of it. The Frozen ride in Epcot opened the other day, also, and I can honestly say it wasn't worth taking out the Maelstrom for. The adorable Olaf and Sven animatronics are literally the only good part of the ride, in my opinion. I hate everything else about it. The other animatronics are super creepy and the entire ride is just a bunch of disconnected scenes of Elsa's ice castle. There's videos of it on Youtube if you care to check it out. I watched one of the Frozen ride and then one of the Maelstrom, the ride it replaced, back to back and I can honestly say I felt more fulfilled with the Maelstrom. It had this charm and nostalgia akin to the original Disney rides (Snow White's Scary Adventure, Pinocchio's Journey, Peter Pan's Flight, etc.) while also giving a great taste of Norway's culture and history. I honestly forgot where I was after watching the Maelstrom video. The Frozen one? Not so much. It doesn't help that they kept the track exactly the same so all I kept thinking about was what used to be there when it was the Maelstrom. *le sigh* I'm really hoping Moana is a huge hit, though, and knocks Frozen out of the park for once. It seems like a really beautiful and well-done film and I can't even begin to express how happy I am that they cast an unknown in the lead role. The entertainment industry is so hard to break into these days because everyone just wants A-list actors but Disney used to always have a way of giving unknown actors fame and so I'm glad they went back to that tactic when casting Moana, and especially a Hawaiian unknown.
In the realm of me and my love life, I have to say things have DEFINITELY gotten WAY better in the past couple days, even (part of the reason why it's taken me so goddamn long to respond to your comment!). Me and my crush were messaging all day Monday and it turns out that after two years of pining, he admitted he has feelings for me and now I can very happily say he's my very first boyfriend! I've never been happier and he's just been so goddamn sweet and wonderful, it's everything I ever wanted and more and I just have been travelling through this entire week in such a daze because I can't believe it finally happened, that after two years he's finally my boyfriend and I'm his girlfriend and even though it's only been about four days, I can tell he already loves me so much and cares about me so much and dammit it probably sounds like I'm bragging and if it does, I'm so sorry, I've just been incredibly happy and still cannot believe this is happening xD I'm positive you'll find the perfect person for you soon, and you'll know it the instant you meet them that they're the one for you, there will be no doubt in your mind. It may not be a fairytale from the get-go but I can assure you, when you find the right person, it is literally the best feeling on the planet.
You're welcome! I'm thinking maybe the house was a little further away-- there's also the point of the way land changes over time, trees grow and ground shifts. The house could've had a pretty clear view of the lake in the early 1700s but by the 2000s, there could've been so much overgrowth and trees that it blocked the once clear view. The architecture of the house could be similar, but you do have a point about the difference in time between RotG and BTTF3. I guess maybe just research early colonial cabins or something and you'll probably find good references. Back to the Future is one of my favorites, as well! I love the entire trilogy but I think my favorite is a tie between one and three. In celebration of Back to the Future day, though, I actually went with my best friend to this screening of BTTF2 in the park cosplaying Jennifer, and I roleplay as her Tumblr, too ^_^ I think that's a good crossroad to make about the other girls in the village, also. I can imagine them watching him run around and goof off with the kids with these expressions of disappointment like "You know, Jack is so cute but it's such a shame he's so strange and immature" or something along those lines. I think that's super cute how Jack fights for her/you, too, by the way, when her/you get bullied by the antagonist. I can definitely see him doing something like that!
Yeah, it's a shame because I would love to see a Rise of the Guardians sequel-- there's so much material left untouched in the movie's universe, they could do so much with it. I know a lot of people have said they would be happy at least with a series of shorts documenting Jack's pre-movie attempts to break into North's workshop, too, which I LOVE the idea of. I know what you mean about new crews handling franchise sequels, though. That's why the last one was a bit of a box office flop, as well. The first two movies were distributed by Disney and directed by Shrek director Andrew Adamson. By the time the third movie came out, Fox had bought the franchise and Adamson took up the role as one of the producers with Michael Apted as director. I can only hope the next film they're working on, The Silver Chair, will at least preserve some of the magic of the first films. I already know the screenplay is being written by the same screenwriter who wrote Life of Pi so I can only hope that means good things. In terms of edits, though, I feel very lucky I was given the opportunity to take the Photoshop classes in high school. The three years I had there were the best times of my high school career with a teacher I loved and miss a lot-- he always reminded me of Kevin James because he looked kind of like him and they were both pretty goofy. I just need to find a way to utilize my Photoshop certification to earn some money haha I downloaded CS2, as well, but I haven't been using it for much other than making the cover images for my Narnia fanfic series. CS2 is definitely good (and was free anyways so that's always a plus) but it doesn't have quite as many abilities as CS6 or CC does (I was trained on CS6 so that's the one I'm most comfortable with). Editing isn't all to hard and like I said, there's tons of tutorials on Youtube and stuff. I'd say just start simple and work up from there-- the very first project we were assigned in my year one Photoshop class was this project called Eddie the Donkey where we had to place a picture of a donkey into a picture of a barn and then combine that with this picture of a field. I suggest something like that for your first go of it-- you can probably find that one if not something similar online. I've never tried Paint Tool SAI but I've heard good things about it. I've always wanted to try it but I'm too cheap to pay the money XD

I would, too. I wonder where Jack got his good looks from? XD I see a lot of people in other fanfics make Jack's father this serious man that is disappointed in Jack for being so childish and stuff. Idk if I can really see him like that.
Yeah, it doesn't have to mean he has feelings for her in particular, but idk. Is that so? Though how would women even see him to be infatuated with him? I thought the first mortal who saw him was Jamie. Maybe this does prove the movie and books are separate universes. I wonder if the universe changes who Jack is attracted to? Anyway, I wonder if he returned any of the women's feelings? Dang, Isadora was CRAZY in love with him. I guess Joyce wanted to portray Jack as a typical teenager in the romance department...or a playboy lmao. It is plausible...but I can't help but feel jealous. XD It still ticks me off when I see random comments by people saying he would prefer a wild girl because quiet and calm ones would bore him. > Yes, Katherine sounds like she'd be great with Jack. I bet he'll somehow sense that she is special when he encounters her and then he founds out who she is and fall for her. He might have multiple love interests, but hopefully Katherine will be the TRUE love for him!
(and maybe us in an AU since we are similar to her
) Oh, there was another reason behind the kiss other than romance? Or does it go hand in hand? I would expect something fairy tale like from this series. Oh, so I wasn't the only one thinking that?
Yeah, I'm so glad I did look him up. I actually feel like he kind of changed my life. I used to be a kid that loved snow. Then the teen years came. I grew to despise winter because of teenage angst or something lol. Then, I saw the movie, and Jack made me remember why I used to like winter and snow, and now I do again. I even like children more than I used to as well. Idk why, but I feel a bit more optimistic in general after watching him. Yeah, I guess we both found him out of curiosity about rumors, huh? Really? I was head over heels the moment I saw him haha! XD Aw, now I'm jealous! I want his hoodie! I've always held slight interest in cosplay, but I've never really done it before. Maybe you can try making her again? I'm glad I didn't have to wait to see it. I found a website online with the entire movie in hd for free! I should really buy it though. Those toys sound amazing! XD Yeah, my love deepened so much when I watched the movie. I flipped when I first saw him as a mortal too. XD My fangirling is so crazy right now that I just bought a poster of him for my room! I really want a doll or something of him, too. I'll have to make that myself. That backpack sounds awesome! I wish I had that as my legacy! Mine was just "the outcast smart girl"...possibly with a touch of emo.
Yeah, it is. Aw, that sounds so adorable! I get it. They just opened a new Frozen ride? Now? You are talking about Florida's Disney World not California's Disney Land, right? I have been a few times to Florida's when I was younger but not California's. Anyway, I wonder why they feel the need to 'Frozenify' everything? Maybe I will look up the ride. Well, classics are often the best in general, so I understand how you must feel. Yes, I really would like to see Moana be a hit. I've always had a fondness of islands and beaches and the like, so I already LOVE the setting of the movie! It does look quite pleasing to the eye from the trailer I've seen. I agree so much. It's nice they give new people a chance, especially one who could identify so much with the character they play.
I was kind of wondering if you saw my comment at all. I wasn't sure if you were going to respond at all...I thought I annoyed you (stupid anxiety thoughts!) or you wanted to end the convo. It's ok if you ever did want to end it (it probably will eventually...though it's still so long XD), but I'd rather be told than left hanging haha. Glad to know you were just busy. REALLY?! YAY! You finally got your guy! I'm so happy for you! Nah, don't apologize! You are happy and you want to share it! If I ever find my true love one day, I'll be the same as you are now. I really hope I do! I can't wait for that day if it comes! I've been told before that true love feels incredible!
It probably was further away, though I remember his flashback that showed him walking out of the house and it looked smack next to the lake. Maybe it was on the other side and we didn't see it? That's a good point! Though Jack came up from the lake like at most a few days later from when he drowned...his village was still there and I saw his sister talking to a man. Yeah, idk why but when I search for anything early 1700s, I can't find much. I'll try to find something though. Really? I've never met anyone who has the third movie as their fave. The whole trilogy is fantastic! I've watched it countless times. That sounds awesome! I went to a local movie theater on Back to the Future day and saw all three! I had always wished there was a way for me to see them in theaters, and that was my chance, so I took it. It was awesome! My not very possible dream came true! XD You cosplay and role play Jennifer? Cool! If I ever cosplayed a character, I would probably be Lorraine from 1955. That is what I might do, but idk. Since you said all those women in history apparently loved him deeply despite his immaturity, not sure if I should make every girl like that. Or he just comes from a weird village? XD I know! I think it's pretty cheesy, but I can't pass up this idea since it's so sweet! XD I can see that happening, too. I'm still developing the antagonist. He is definitely going to be a misogynist jerk that thinks he owns every woman in town though. Possibly secretly abused by his own father, but idk. He is going to bully Jack and my character especially harshly, but I'm still thinking of reasons why. I might make him feel lusty towards my character and therefore be jealous of Jack.
I would, too. Dreamworks just sees it as a miserable failure, though. The potential is endless. I actually did hear a rumor somewhere that Dreamworks has ROTG shorts they never released! I think they have 3? I would adore that, too! Well, you never know. Just because crew changes often make sequels worse/feel too different in a bad way compared to their predecessors, doesn't mean every single one is bad when this happens. All you can do is hope for the best and give it a chance. I can assure you that you were lucky to take those classes. I should have, too...but people always told me Microsoft applications are much more useful, so that's what I took classes in. Back in school, I wanted to do what would make me money, not what made me happy. I realize now that was stupid and I'm angry others influenced me to think that way. Anyway, enough venting. I'm glad you got so much fulfillment from those courses. I probably would have, too. I do have to say that my Microsoft teacher was amazing though. I'm sure you'll find a way to use it. Yeah, I got my CS2 for free also. Ok, maybe I will try that. Paint Tool Sai is fantastic. Actually...I found it online for free. I saw someone put a link to download it free and it worked out! XD

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've always wondered myself, and I know making his father really serious and stern is a pretty common RotG fanfic trope but a part of me feels like it fits? The way I imagine his father is being this strong and initially intimidating figure whose usually pretty serious but has these glimmers of lightheartedness and fun, and it's that version of his father he loves the most. I feel like he'd be a very caring man but a very stern and overwhelmed man-- there's a plaque on the statue in the town square during the scene where Jamie loses his tooth that reads something about a harsh winter and the founder of Burgess so I can imagine life wasn't very easy for the Overlands. I mean, if it's the early 1700's, America isn't even independent yet and settlers were trying to accustom themselves to the new land and everything so I can imagine times were tough and Jack's father would be the head of the house responsible for providing for his wife and children and probably helping build Burgess up and establish it as a proper settlement. In Jack's younger days, he probably tried to be more fun-loving around his children but I think as Jack grew older, his father probably became more and more preoccupied with him becoming a man, getting married and having a family of his own, and helping contribute to their colony and stuff like that, so I mean, I guess that's where I can see him being serious and kind of disappointed in Jack. The way I've always seen it was that back during those times, life was more about working and sustainability than having fun so Jack was probably the odd man out among his peers/age group and such. I can't quite imagine him being the type of guy to take up hunting and other things considered "men's work" at the time, you know?
With the love interest thing in mind, though, I guess it is safe to say that book!verse and movie!verse definitely differ. Like I said, though, I think part of it is because the series was incomplete when Dreamworks produced Rise of the Guardians, so maybe Joyce didn't have everything planned out yet. I think one of the explanations he gave for them both being so different, too, is because as time passes and legends are passed down through generations, the details shift and the stories change a bit depending on who you ask, but I can't remember where I read that. But yes, the kiss between Katherine and Nightlight was very fairytale-esque because (SPOILERS AHEAD) basically in Sandman's book, Katherine was kidnapped by Pitch and put into this deep, nightmare ridden sleep that she could only be awoken from by a kiss. I want to say it was a first kiss, though it's been a while since I've read the books and I'm too lazy at the moment to break them out for a direct reference but basically the only way to wake her up was from a kiss so Nightlight kissed her, she woke up, and then the thing basically ends with because Nightlight kissed her, something in him changed and "he could no longer be a Nightlight" or something to that effect. (END OF SPOILERS).
I love the fact that Jack basically changed our lives for the better. While I wasn't in a very dark place when I found him, I ended up spiraling down into one about six months into my obsession. I was having a lot of school and family stress and felt very lost and depressed, so I turned to Jack to try and cope with it all. Of course, that then lead me to my boyfriend so I really have a lot to thank Jack for, truthfully. His hoodie was a lot of hard work but I couldn't be happier with it. It took me about three hours, I believe it was? I'm pretty big on cosplaying, though, so I guess the experience helped a bit. The backpack took about the same amount of time but it's one of my favorite things. I'm kind of glad the Jack Frost thing pretty much overpowered the my emo side, though. I went through a REALLY dark phase for a few months my senior year where I was, like, teasing my hair and wearing raccoon eye makeup every day like it was freaking 2007. Not the brightest era of my life, to say the least. xD
Yepp, it's in the Norway Pavilion in Epcot in Walt Disney World in Orlando. However, in the California Adventure park they replaced a long-standing Aladdin broadway-style stage show with a Frozen one which even though Disneyland in California isn't my default park, I'm pretty angry about that, as well. But yeah, I'm really hoping Moana does wonderfully at the box office. I've always felt the same about beaches and the tropics-- there's just something so beautiful and relaxing about them. Polynesian cultures are just so interesting, too, so I'm really glad they'll be paying some legit tribute to that. That's part of the reason why I'm so aggravated about Frozen taking over the Norway pavilion because I mean, regardless of whether or not Arendelle is based on/inspired by Norwegian cultures, I don't think it's enough to validate taking over an entire country's pavilion and replacing it's cultural representation with a fairytale that isn't even Norwegian. Ugh, I just have a whole hell of a lo of angst about this.
Yeah, sorry again for leaving you hanging for a couple of days! Like I said, the past week has been pretty much a whirlwind haha I'm glad my lovesick rambling didn't come off as bragging or anything, though. I'm just really happy about all of this xD I never thought this day would come when we felt this way about one another so when it finally happened, a part of me got really scared it was just a really vivid dream that I was going to wake up from any minute and it would all disappear. I'm so freaking happy it's not. Now the only obstacle, really, is distance since he moved 300miles away for college so I'm hoping to go up and spend the weekend with him one of these days. I'm insanely nervous but so excited, I can barely even function. Like I said, when you find the guy for you, you'll know it immediately. There's a very distinct feeling you get that's both the best and worst feeling ever. Your hands get shaky and you start feeling sweaty and like your gonna be sick and pass out all at once yet there's this longing in the pit of your stomach and downward, this tingly feeling that's just screaming for you to get close and have skin-to-skin contact and shit like that. It's all very intense haha
Oh yeah, that's true. Maybe the house was on the other side of the lake then? But yeah, in terms of BTTF, I think the third one is tied for my fave just because it reminds me of my grandpa. He loved trains and history so I guess it just reminds me of him. A part of me thinks he may have liked the third one, as well, though it's a very hazy memory so I can't say for certain. Cosplaying Jennifer was definitely pretty fun, though, and roleplaying her is great, too. It's just a bit of a challenge since there's not as much of her character to work off of-- I really wish they had done more with her in the sequels instead of have her unconscious for 85% of the time. I feel like she had such promise in the first film and then in the sequels, she just became sort of a charicature of the character she was, you know? I don't know, at least that's how I've always felt on the matter but I still love her greatly. The woman who played her in the first film, Claudia Wells, actually follows me on Twitter xD I was this close to meeting Christopher Lloyd, too, at a local con but I ended up unable to go. I would've loved to have seen all three movies in theaters, though, I can only imagine how epic that must've been. I don't think there were any theaters in my area doing that but the screening of the second film in the park was pretty fun. They had free Chick-fil-a, at least xD Cosplaying Lorraine would be so cool, I feel like there aren't as many cosplays of her as there could be. The only one I've ever really seen was by a Lorraine roleplayer on Tumblr but that's about it. As for the girls who like Jack, I'd say keep them the way you originally planned since the women in history were infatuated with Frost, not Overland, so that may make a bit of a difference, you know? I think having the antagonist have a thing for your character is a pretty plausible reason for him bullying them both. Either that or perhaps your character is the only one who doesn't put up with his misogynistic ways and it angers him? If he's such a big shot and acts like he owns every woman in town and such.
It's such a shame that Rise of the Guardians did so poorly at the box office, though, because it's really such a gorgeous film with beautiful detail and animation and it deserved way more praise than it got. I would love to see the shorts they never released, too! I'm sure they're amazing <3 But yeah, I guess all I can do in terms of Narnia sequels is cross my fingers and hope for the best haha I already know the actor who played Eustace, the Pevensies' cousin from the third film whose the main protagonist of the next one, won't be returning, though, because he's too old now, which honestly makes me so sad but I hope the new actor does justice to the old one. I've heard the same thing about Microsoft certification being more useful, as well, and I think a part of me may have considered it but I've always been more right-brained than left so the artistic shit appealed to me more. I'll have to look for a free version of SAI, though! I got a tablet for Christmas but haven't been able to use it much because I don't really have a decent program to use it on but if I could find SAI for free, that'd be perfect xD

Again, you make some good points. I think a part of me doesn't want to believe that his bond with his father was like that because it's just sad. It is realistic though, and I want my story to be as realistic as I can make it. From what I have researched, there were arranged marriages and courtships back when Jack lived. Marriage was more about money and property than love. I heard parents set up dates and the woman is allowed to choose if she wants a man as her suitor. If she doesn't, they will just set up more. Since Jack is poor, idk how this will work out. How did poor people marry back then if this was the case? I can't find anything about this anywhere. He is going to die anyway though, but at the time they didn't know it yet. My story will span about a year and a half long. I've actually thought maybe having Jack try to get my OC pregnant so they can get married (NO, I will NOT go into detail about it, just imply they did something in her family's barn ). I heard back then that if a woman gets pregnant out of wedlock, the two people are obligated to marry. I also found out this was surprisingly common. I've even seen some claim that Jack was part of the Burgess family itself. I agree about Jack not being interested in "men's work", but I think I am still going to make him feel proud and excited about being from a family of shepherds and eventually becoming one himself (hence why he carries his staff everywhere). The thing is, I am going to make him more excited about the idea of it than the work itself to make it more in character. He probably was the odd guy out of his age group, and because of that, I can't really see him having friends other than the village children. He probably thought the other guys were boring. Though could that go for girls as well? Not being interested in the girls of his village because they were boring? I imagine the girls were quite mature and well behaved. Kind of like a bunch of Elsas lol. I wonder how I can make my character stand out from them to catch his attention positively other than the whole 'love at first sight' thing. I think that's why other people think he would like the outgoing type of girl, because she would be different and fun compared to the others. Then again, that could be a reason for him to like a quieter, calm one as well. More laid back and has fun in a unique way compared to the other uptight girls. Though some reason, I see him viewing a more energetic girl like a little sister because that is how his sister appeared to me in the movie. Despite being sort of childish himself, he might view a girl like that as a kid. I think it's because Jack actually carries himself as an immature teenager despite still liking kid stuff. I've seen people claim he is like a little kid, but not really. He plays pranks and other things that seem more of a teenager nature.
Yeah, I'm believing more and more that RotG and GoC are actually alternate universes, but they are both canon. I guess it's up to the audience to decide which one they accept as the main canon. I guess this kind of debunks the Nightlight and Overland were fused, huh? Jack was only supposed to have only one love interest in RotG and she was cut out. I am so curious as to what she was like. Maybe like Katherine? I almost wonder if Joyce made Vanish similar to Movie!Tooth to be one of his love interests in the book to make Guillermo del Toro happy since he didn't get rainbowsnowcone in the movie like he wanted? Now that I think about it, both the multiple love interest and single love interest scenarios work well for Jack. Since he behaves so childishly, he might not even think/care about love until he meets the one for him, but it's also possible he is curious and wants to explore romance since it is typical of boys that age. I'm going to go with the first scenario in my fic. I just feel like it's more in character for him, even with what Joyce may plan on doing in the books. He said that? Hm...nice excuse he made. XD Oh, so Katherine was like Sleeping Beauty? That sounds very interesting. Another thing I want to mention is that maybe Jack in the books falls for other girls because he feels a void in his life that he can't explain (Katherine) and he wants to fill it. That could explain why Joyce said Vanish gives him such grief (I don't know a positive definition of this word)...because her and her flirting are filling the void but he is kind of annoyed by her as well because she isn't a good fit for him. Since he doesn't remember Katherine, he doesn't know his type and he might be exploring to try and find it.
I love it, too! Who would have thought a Dreamworks character would have such an effect on people like us? I would love to make Jack's hoodie for myself. I should look it up. Cosplaying sounds like fun. Lol, I never really went through an actual emo phase, but I have always had a touch of emo in my personality since I became a teenager.
That's dumb they are getting rid of classic stuff for Frozen. Frozen is a fad that will die out eventually, but Aladdin is timeless. I know, right? Tropical anything is pretty cool. Except coconut. I've never liked coconut for some reason. Polynesian cultures are fascinating. I completely agree. Frozen takes place in a fictional country SIMILAR to Norway, but it isn't actually Norway. That will confuse people. That's ok, I was an angst machine when I was a teenager, so I understand. XD
It's ok, you don't have to apologize! I just have no life and I practically live on this website haha. I am also impatient, and I really need to work on that. Well, you should be happy! I know I would be! I bet everything will work out for you. It does sound quite intense.
That is what I was thinking. Oh, I see. Memories often make things sweeter. Yeah, they didn't show much of Jennifer, which is kind of dumb. She was destined to be the main character's wife and they should have showed her more. She did have much promise but she was overshadowed by the story and other characters. I have looked up a bit about her character, and apparently there was a story of how her and Marty met. She was this sweet girl that surprised him by being into Clint Eastwood movies and rock and roll. XD Really?! That's awesome! I would love to meet Christopher Lloyd! I heard he is actually a very quiet and reserved man. Oh, it was epic all right. At least you had fun and Chick-fil-a. I had popcorn that I had to buy myself. XD I would totally consider cosplaying her. It would be fun! So I should keep the girls liking Jack only for his looks and being turned off by his immaturity? Sounds good! XD That's true, there might be a difference, but I still think he would be loved simply for his appearence. Actually...I think I might do both of those ideas. He will have an actual thing for her unlike the other girls in town he just claims to own and she will actually stand up to him. It will piss him off even more since she doesn't "know her place". He will hate Overland for stealing 'his woman' and try to get my character to love him by saying "You want a man like me, not a little boy like him" frequently. She will answer with "You aren't a man, you are a demon! I'd definitely rather have a 'little boy' than you!" XD He certainly is a big shot. I forgot to mention he is loosely based off of Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen! XD
I wish it did better, too. I'd love to see the shorts if they actually exist. I'm sure the new actor will try their best. I've always been more right brained as well but teachers forced me to use my left brain more because they thought I was smart. Sure, but I wasn't happy and I felt so repressed not being able to express myself in a way I prefer. It made me into someone I wasn't. I couldn't even make any art during much of my teen years because they gave me so much work. I couldn't even have a hobby if I wanted to. I was too tired to. Anyway, things are different now and I'm glad they are. I am mostly practicing and I feel like most stuff I make isn't good enough to post yet. I'll get there eventually. Oh, what kind of tablet did you get? Maybe I can find the link where I got Sai from. Also, I apologize this reply is a day late. I felt tired yesterday and I've been having ear pain that I need to get checked out.

Yeah, the idea of him having such a strained relationship with his father is definitely sad but I agree that it's realistic. While I'm not entirely sure about the marriage thing, I feel like arranged marriages were probably still a thing even if Jack and his family were poor. Maybe they would try to set him up with a girl of a wealthier status to raise their reputation or their place in a caste system? Or maybe the poorer people just paired off amongst themselves and continued the poverty through the generations? The pregnancy thing could definitely be an interesting plot device but I think it would have to integrate well into the story in order to really work. Pregnancy in that time period is a whole other can of worms and because they didn't have the technology we have today, so your character probably wouldn't be aware of it until she started experiencing symptoms and passed the first trimester, after which miscarriages aren't nearly as likely to happen. The pregnancy may become a way more significant portion of the plot than initially planned so you may end up having the meld your initial story idea around that particular plot point and sort out where in the story this would happen, how the characters would react, what implications the environment would have on the pregnancy (like if a part of the pregnancy spans into a brutal winter or something), and especially what would happen to your character and the baby. If it's a plot point you really want to add, then I say go for it, but just be aware of what kind of effect it might have on the story.
I think the idea of Jack being excited about the idea of the work and feeling proud to be of a herding family makes a lot of sense. He may even view herding sheep as sort of like a game and therefore might be excited about the work because if that's the case, he might not actually view it as work. I do think he would definitely be mainly friends with the village kids, as well. I think his flashback in the film makes that pretty obvious. As for his view of the other teens, I think it's safe to say he may think they're boring, especially since they're all around the age of when they start pairing off and such and I feel like that's something Jack may kind of attest to, this idea of getting married and having kids and living an "all work, no play" lifestyle. I can imagine the guys his age would be very competitive but not in the good way, they'd probably be trying to catch the girl's attention and convince them of their probability as a good suitor for marriage. I imagine many of the girls would be very mature and well-behaved, like you said. I know in that era and by their age, they'd probably be prepped by their mothers for becoming the woman of the house responsibility for cooking, cleaning, looking after the little ones. The usual gender roles for women, you know? I feel like while they may not be outgoing and wild like most people think to pair Jack with, they'd probably be more snobby and bossy, like turning their nose up at him for running around barefoot and acting immature. They'd probably be more interested in the manly men, the hard workers and the strong, show-offy guys of the village. To make your character different than the rest, you could probably have her detest those kinds of men all the other girls are drawn to, which could work in the case of the antagonist you said you were developing, the bully. Maybe your character doesn't even really care much for marriage or isn't prepared to become a housewife and mother, or maybe she prefers the quiet outdoors to staying inside learning to knit and cook like the others? I think it's honestly fair game, truthfully.
Yeah, I agree, I think it's safe to say they are both alternate universes or at least until Joyce fills in the plot holes between the two. I'm not sure either are exactly "main canon", though, but perhaps just supplementary to each other? I don't know, everyone's opinion on it probably differs and I'm not even sure what I think on the matter. I can imagine the deleted love interest from the movie being a lot like Katherine, though, or at least I could hope she'd be like her. I can definitely see Jack as being a "curious about love" type person, though. I think, or at least in Frost's case, that after spending so much time alone and ignored, that once he starts gaining believers, he'd no doubt find at least a few he feels something strange and new towards, or even other fictional figures. I know a lot of people like the idea of pairing him up with a female Cupid figure, which I've truthfully explored myself a bit in past years. But yeah, I think he'd definitely be curious about love and romance and stuff like that, leading to multiple love interests, but I feel like he's also the kind of person who may not yearn for anything serious like marriage or children so he isn't tied down and driven into a cycle of constant responsibility and hard work. I must say, though, that I love the idea of him searching to fill some void that Katherine left behind in him.
The hoodie isn't too hard to make, it's just very time consuming haha Here's what mine ended up looking like in case you were curious: supereilonwypevensie.deviantar⦠The good part about making the hoodie, though, is that there's a massive margin for error because it's not supposed to be perfect so if you make a mistake, it's not a big deal! If you do decide to try and make one yourself, I just suggest using lots of reference pictures and giving the paint ample time to dry, so go section by section and don't rush your way through it. Cosplaying is a lot of fun, too, by the way, and as an avid cosplayer I highly suggest trying it out if you're into that sort of thing. It can get pretty frustrating at times but it's so rewarding attending conventions and showing off your hard work I'd like to think I still have a bit of emo in me (I still listen to the screamo music and wear band t-shirts and converse and shit) but I don't tease my hair or do the raccoon eye makeup anymore. When I was younger, I always sort of romanticized the style and there were times when I wanted to emulate it but just never did until senior year. The worst part is that the bulk of it was due to jealousy and teenage angst over a girl my crush (now boyfriend) was close with but that's a LONG story I'm not gonna get into the gory, complex details of.
That's exactly what I'm saying. I know a lot of people make the argument that we all did the same when we were kids but with The Little Mermaid and The Lion King but I mean, I feel like Disney didn't milk those quite as much as they're milking Frozen today. I mean, neither are dominating multiple theme parks and overriding multiple attractions like Frozen is. The Norway thing is just what gets me so angry the most, though, because like you said, it's a fictional land dominating a real country. Ugh, it's just so aggravating. And to be honest, my age isn't even why I'm an angst machine. My Irish blood is why I'm an angst machine haha My age is just an unfortunate coincidence that will no longer have any significance in a little less than a year xD
Sorry again for taking ages to reply to this, by the way. The intensity continues lol
I definitely wish they had done more justice to Jennifer's character. I liked her in the first movie but a part of me wonders if the recast had something to do with the loss of her essence and personality. Either way, I think I've read that same story on how they met, as well! It's super cute. I wish I could've met Christopher Lloyd, though! It would've been an amazing opportunity. Not only do I love him as Doc Brown but also in Roger Rabbit and his character on Cyberchase, which I watched SO MUCH as a kid. Hopefully I'll get another opportunity to meet him. I've heard the same about him being very quiet and reserved, but I kind of like that. It gives me the confidence to further pursue acting even if I am pretty quiet and reserved myself. By the way, I've just been responding paragraph by paragraph but considering what I said up there ^ corresponds with the topic you wrote further down on the antagonist and stuff, I'm just going to let the earlier paragraph do the talking on that haha That's super cool the antagonist is inspired by Mad Dog, though! ^_^
I know exactly what you mean because I felt the same way in school. I was tested for the gifted program when I was in third grade and passed the test, so things were always a bit difficult because I was basically in two different worlds during elementary and middle school and had so much extra work just because I was apparently smarter than everyone else. College gives me a little more freedom, at least, since I get to say when I take what classes and can give myself the free time I need to pursue the things I love, but there were definitely points where I didn't really have time to pursue any hobbies or anything, either. Senior year would be one of those times haha Truth be told, a year later and I'm still suffering the aftermath haha I made the big mistake of taking high school, college, and online classes all at once. Not the smartest decision I've ever made. That on top of being depressed and emo and dealing with personal struggles made for a very exhausting year haha But anyways, with the tablet, I have a Wacom Intuos Draw. Not quite the same as the one I learned on but it's a tablet and that's all that matters. Once I get better software (and the proper desk space), I'll be able to acquaint myself with it better xD If you could find the link you got SAI from, that would be phenomenal, but don't worry about it if you can't! Hope your ear feels better, by the way.

Yes, I will probably implement his strained relationship with his father in my story then. I feel like the poor probably paired amongst themselves to keep their family names going. That is what I might do for my story because from what I can tell, the people in his village all have similar clothing and houses so their wealth shouldn't vary that much. I mean, if families are looking for the best deal in marriage, you can't have a really poor family join with a rich one since the rich get the short end of the stick, right? It's just confusing to me. Doesn't religion play a part, too? For some reason, I just can't see the Overlands as Puritans. I also found out families that are close friends can get an arranged marriage set up. I'm planning on having my character's family having a little more money than the Overland's. You make some great points. I'm still toying with the idea in my head and idk if I'll go through with it. I was actually thinking of going in another direction with it where Jack tries to get her pregnant so they can get married, but she doesn't end up getting pregnant in the end. They get caught the morning after in her family's barn and idk where to go from there. Maybe have them set up a marriage to teach them a lesson about how it isn't all fun and games or just in case she did get pregnant? I also saw somewhere that back then you were considered to be 'claimed' after doing it because of the spiritual connection so that could be a reason for putting them together maybe? Or maybe the families will approve of them together and they won't have to do this at all?
Exactly! Like a game! I actually looked up something about shepherds, and this is what I found, "In many societies shepherds were an important part of the economy. Unlike farmers, shepherds were often wage earners. They were paid to watch other peopleβs sheep. Shepherds often lived all on their own. Some were nomads. Shepherds were most often the younger sons of simple farmers who did not inherit any land. Still in other societies, each family would have a family member to shepherd its flock, often a child or young person or an old person who was not able to help much with the harder work. A shepherd had a lot of time to sit and think or amuse himself." Lots of time to sit and amuse himself immediately reminded me of Jack. XD It also furthers my theory on him probably seeing it as a game. Agreed. You make a great point...yet it confuses me at the same time on how to make my story work. Jack doesn't seem like the type who wants to get married and have kids like the others because it might sound boring to him. Maybe my OC will change his mind some? I just want to keep him as in character as possible. What I meant about people pairing Jack with a wild and outgoing girl is that I think they do it because it would catch his attention as someone who knows how to have fun compared to the other boring, snobby girls. I can see why they think he'd prefer that kind of girl and it makes me insecure even though you may be right having him see it as competition and having a love/hate thing going on. Those relationships usually don't work well and I can definitely see Jack wanting out of such a stressful relationship. I could see him also just wanting to be friends with a girl like that, too and not being romantically interested because he might see a girl like that as someone like the kids he plays with. My character actually is drawn to 'outcasts' (he is an outcast in a way I feel), so that could set her apart from the others. Yeah, she certainly doesn't like the antagonist. Not sure how the other girls should view him, though. He isn't just a manly showoff, but a pure asshole. Actually, I think I will go with her not feeling ready to grow up and be a housewife and mother since it really applies to me. XD Well, except the housewife and mother thing...these days, it's getting a job and all that crap instead that's expected of women or at least me. Me finding a guy is an extra perk but that isn't absolutely necessary in my family.
Yes, it's all very confusing, but what you told me about Joyce saying stories have different retellings, I think that's what he will go with instead of linking them together somehow. Or he is saying everything is canon, choose your favorites from each. XD Another weird theory I came up with that I don't know why I did because I hate it is that Nightlight and Overland came together to become Frost, and because Frost has multiple love interests of different types, maybe it shows Nightlight obviously likes girls like Katherine and Overland liked girls like Vanish, movie!Tooth, etc. Though I think it's that he has remaining feelings for Katherine and he is trying to fill the void. Maybe if Overland and Nightlight did mix, Nightlight's feelings remain and cause him to want love but Overland's naivety in romance took over, causing him not to understand his feelings when apparently Nightlight did...right? I have no idea how Joyce would even go about connecting the books and the movie otherwise. I hope she was like Katherine, too. Did you ever see the deleted scene? It's on YouTube. I think it's plausible that he would be curious, but I also think he wouldn't understand romance or even care about it until he meets his special someone because he can sense when people are special and she might stop him in his tracks. Obviously, Overland is a different story and he most likely leans more toward the latter...except for the sensing thing though. Frost may very well be curious after meeting a few who give him strange feelings, but it's also possible he doesn't really care about that because being tied down goes with it or the feelings don't really get strong in a romantic way until he meets a Katherine like girl.
He definitely yearns for friends though. Yes, but the new believers would have to be his physical age, and I don't see that happening often. I've seen people pair him with Cupid, too. I even saw a story that had Cupid set up Jack with a human girl. XD It does sound interesting.
Your's came out nice. Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I'd love to try it sometime. I wear darker colored clothes a lot and listen to 'emo' music, too. I still kind of like the style, but I really wish I could dress more retro these days (40's, 50's, 60's style). Of course, dressing like that costs so much money that I can't.
Even cheaper stuff I can find in that kind of style is pretty bad quality. Anyway, I romanticized the emo style too when I was younger. I was never full blown emo though...just had bits of it in me and still do. I see...my emo side came out when I was trying so hard to fit in with the others in middle school, but it didn't work and I realized barely anybody liked me.
Exactly. Frozen is so much more overhyped than any other Disney movie I've seen. That is so dumb, I mean Epcot is a place to learn about other REAL countries, so they are basically teaching kids Arendelle is real. Hey, I'm Irish, too! Well, half Irish. That's probably part of the reason I was angsty, too. XD It was a bunch of things mixed together. Lol!
It's ok, as you can see it took me a little while to reply back, too. XD
That's a good point. Maybe they didn't want to make the recast as obvious, so they had her knocked out most of the time? It was a cute story! That would have been cool and I know I would do anything to meet him! He was a character on Cyberchase?! I never noticed! XD I watched Cyberchase and all those other PBS Kids shows at my friend's house when we were bored since they didn't have cable. The shows were pretty good though! Yeah, just because he is quiet doesn't mean he isn't confident. He is a good role model for us! XD Ok I understand. This conversation is getting pretty messy despite the paragraphs! XD Yep! I wanted to add a bit of drama to my story, so I put this character in there. What better character to base him off of for drama than Mad Dog? XD
Oh man! I wasn't in the gifted program at my school, but I was always put in the high level classes and pushed to be in them. I still had time to do what I loved in elementary. Middle school...eh I was in chorus and I loved it but that was the only thing I had time for in the creative department. High school is where my creative side was pretty much ripped away from me completely. It was a dark time. Yeah, you can also choose your major in college and you aren't forced to do anything against your will except the general crap. I haven't even started college yet because I was deciding on what I want to do, but I will in August. I think I'm going with grapic arts. My parents wish I would do something that would make me more money and have more job availibility, but I decided to do what makes me happy instead. If that makes me a poor fool, then oh well. I'm just so tired of being told what to do and being unhappy. Maybe it will motivate me, too, since I haven't felt motivated to draw lately. I really need it. XD Man, all those classes in one year sounds horrible! You sound like you had a rough senior year! I used to feel like the only one who didn't have their senior year as their favorite year in high school. Glad I'm not alone!
Oh ok, I have a Wacom Intuos 5 small. I swear, Sai is practically MADE for Wacom tablets...or at least mine. I didn't have to change many settings at all. I can't remember the exact link I got, but try this one I found...I heard it's good: www.mediafire.com/download/2xkβ¦
Thanks! I went to the doctor today and got that crap sorted out. My ear has been more itchy than painful for the past couple of days, but that should go away very soon.
I actually have a random question about Jack x Violet that might be stupid. I saw someone made a statement about another shipping that Jack needs someone more optimistic when he goes through his moments of depression, and it was a pretty convincing argument. Since Violet is kind of on the pessimistic side, how would that work? They would relate to each other about things, but would they cheer each other up or be the type to cry together?

Yeah, arranged marriages in historical time periods can definitely be tricky things to figure out but considering most of the people in Jack's village seem to fall along the same plain in regards to financial status, I guess maybe that gives a little more wiggle room for who gets betrothed to who? I'm not 100% sure on the religion aspect, but I want to say it's probably a safe bet they were at least some denomination of Christian, as for the entire village, given the time period and stuff like that. Whatever you do decide to do with the pregnancy plotline, I guess just make sure you know exactly where you want to go with it before you start working at it. I know there are plotlines in some of my fanfics that I'm not completely sure how I'm going to write yet but I know exactly what I want to happen and where I want to lead so my bet is that so long as you figure that out, you'll be good to go. Chipping away at the plot and refining it is always a process haha
What you found on shepherds definitely sounds like Jack, so I think that will work well. Perhaps you can balance out Jack's personality and where you want to go with the story (and perhaps incorporate the pregnancy plotline, as well) by using the "fun and games" thing, also. Jack definitely isn't one for rules and responsibility (or at least not until the end of RotG but even then, he does things his own way). Perhaps he doesn't consider the consequences of what may come of having sex out of wedlock which could lead into the pregnancy thing and him having to deal with the implications of becoming a husband and father when he's not ready and doesn't even know if he wants that kind of responsibility? It definitely mirrors what you said about your character not being prepared to grow up and be a housewife and such, too.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Joyce does, then. I do like to think that somewhere, Frost still has at least a glimmer of affection and memory for Katherine. It'd be amazing if they ever made a RotG sequel where he remembers his past as Nightlight and his love for Katherine and goes searching for her or something.
Thanks and you're welcome Vintage style is super cute but I agree, it can get pretty pricey. My style these days is usually all about comfort (since I strive for comfort) so it's a lot of shorts and Hot Topic shirts, hair in a constant ponytail, simple makeup if I wear any at all. Shit like that. If I went emo in middle school, I feel like I probably would've attracted a lot more friends than I did but middle school was a pain in the ass and I ended up going to the complete other end of the spectrum trying to fit in with the popular bitches due to the influence of my best friend at the time. I didn't really start inching my way into the scene until the end of eighth grade when I found new friends who were sort of the "outcast" group and then made friends of the same general niche my freshman year of high school.
I'm honestly really saddened by the dumbing down of Epcot, truthfully. People don't have any appreciation for education anymore and that's saddening, especially when Epcot makes learning fun and interesting. But yeah, I'm not full-on Irish like I don't have an accent and live on the island or anything but my great-great-grandparents came over from Ireland and I have distant relatives over there I'm planning to visit someday soon. I've always been very connected to my Irish heritage xD
By the way, just a general warning, it might take me quite a while to reply to these now seeing as I've been pretty busy lately with boyfriend things. That's the one thing nobody really warns you about when you get into a relationship: you end spending the majority of your time talking with them and shit like that. I'm actually going up to spend all of next week with him and I've had some family stuff the past couple days, as well, so between doing that and getting ready for my visit, it's been a hell of a whirlwind.
Perhaps. I wish I could've met Christopher Lloyd when I had the chance, though! He voices Hacker, the villain, on Cyberchase I never had cable when I was a little kid so I basically lived off PBS haha
The gifted program was insanely fun (or at least in elementary school it was) but the only problem was that the way they had it set up was that we would get pulled out of our regular classes for the entire day one day a week. It was always the one day I looked forward to the most but going to back my regular class at the very end of the day was always hell because it meant missing an entire day of regular class and having to makeup all the homework. It was one of the most amazing experiences ever, though, because we got to learn all these really great things that you don't normally learn in regular classes and we had these amazing opportunities for field trips and stuff. We did this one unit on Greek mythology where everyone was assigned a Greek god or goddess that we had to do this project on and then one night we had this Greek mythology fair with Greek food and music and we got to set up little displays for whichever deity we were assigned and put on a little play. It was super fun, even if it meant missing out on some school work each week. I feel like the majority of my high school career, I had some freedom to pursue my creative hobbies and such (I actually wrote an entire 150 page fanfic during the last half of my junior year) except for senior year but that was another matter entirely. At least as a full-time college student, unless you have a job, things aren't quite as strenuous. I've only ever taken classes two or three days a week and then ended up with four or five day weekends to do homework, relax, and work on my hobbies so that's always nice. Of course, that doesn't mean college isn't stressful because hot damn, it totally is, but the freedom is always nice. Thank you so much for the link, too, by the way! It worked and I was able to download the file and get SAI working on my computer so thank you so much! ^_^
Glad your ear is feeling better and you got it taken care of, by the way.
About the JackxViolet thing, you make a pretty good point. Violet does tend to be pretty pessimistic during the movie but I think it depends at what point of her character development we put her with Jack, and vice versa. If we make them both pre-movie, they'd be the angsty type to cry together, I think. If we put them both post-movie, I think they'd build each other up. They'd definitely have their ups and downs but by the end of each of their stories, they both learn a lot about themselves, find where they belong, and become better people with higher confidence and more experience to work off of. I'm actually not so sure if I'd call Violet pessimistic as much as I would realistic, though. She certainly has her moments of "this is the worst ever and nothing is ever going to get better" but I think she'd empathize with Jack during his moments of depression, which I think is way more important than someone trying to cheer him up, or at least that's the way I view it from my own experiences with depression. I never wanted anyone to try and make me happier, it always just made me feel worse. All I ever wanted was someone who understood how I was feeling and what I was going through and who could be there to support me and care about me as I dug myself out of the ditch, you know? So I feel like that's probably the kind of relationship Jack and Violet would have with each other in regards to struggling with depression.

Yeah, I think if there were arranged marriages in a village full of peasants with about the same amount of money in each family, they were probably paired based on family relations and things like that. However, instead of arranged marriages done by fathers, I think I'm starting to lean more towards having the guys in the village choose who they are interested in to court and ask permission of the girl's parents, and the girl can accept or reject the guy. Somehow I feel this makes more sense in a village filled with peasants that don't have too much to offer each other that they don't already have. I even looked further into this whole thing, and arranged marriages were still around but declining in the entire 18th century. Now they are basically non existent in America...fascinating how things change. Yes, I am definitely making the whole village Christian, I just don't know what denomination...or if all the families will be the same one. I just don't picture Jack's family being Puritan though. Maybe Anglican or something? Not sure. Burgess is supposed to be in Pennsylvania anyway, and there was religious freedom there unlike the New England strict Puritan states. I'm actually thinking about scrapping the pregnancy idea entirely for a different idea if I go the "Romeo and Juliet" route. Maybe my character and Jack will just get married privately or something? However, I think I might just go with him asking to court her and he has to convince my character's parents or something because they think he is a bit immature. I'll figure it out eventually. Yes, there will be PLENTY of refining in my story. I am quite an indecisive person...always changing my mind.
I know, I actually laughed when I first read it! It sounded JUST like him! XD Yeah, I think I'll just use the "fun and games" route for everything. Jack gets so caught up in love that he only sees the fun in it since I imagine he would love what it feels like and not want anything boring and serious to taint it...even though his feelings are serious for her at the same time since it's true love...does that make sense? Almost like he is in denial about love not being all about fun maybe? He won't think about the consequences or the fact he will have to "man up" in the future. I almost wonder if that would turn him off when he realizes what he is getting into with being in a relationship. Maybe he would run away and say love isn't worth it or he doesn't love her enough to take responsibility and grow up? (I hope this wouldn't be the case!) Sorry if I'm not making sense...I'm just babbling. I always think through so many scenarios...idk if Jack would be like that though. Something tells me he would do the right thing, especially for true love that probably feels the same way about all of the responsibility. Maybe my OC could even change his perspective on this and he simultaneously does the same to her without realizing it...almost like they learn and grow together over their relationship so they will be ready for the consequences later on when they do decide to marry and stuff (idk if I am doing the premarital sex plotline anymore...I am starting to feel like they will act like kids in love, apparently like Katherine and Nightlight did, until they are prepared for responsibility...I feel like they would think of sex as something for grown people to do and won't start wanting it until their relationship matures). Isn't that what true love is about? If Frost can change and accept responsibility in the end, why can't Overland? Of course, he will take it with his own approach.
I'm sure he does still have something there for Katherine that he needs to be reminded about. Maybe he will get his memories back in the books as well? If it's true love, then they will fall for each other again. Well, considering the plotholes between the books and the movie about Nightlight and Overland, idk if it will be an RotG sequel or a stand alone movie based on the books because it would pretty much be a different version of the same thing.
You're welcome! Ha, I'm mostly about comfort, too. Dressing vintage/retro would be nice, though. Really? Your middle school was certainly different than mine! The emos were picked on and barely had any friends...since there weren't that many others. I somehow made friends with the nerdy girls because they were actually pretty accepting. Peer pressure sure does suck and that's why I tried to fit in with the popular crowd as well before I became emoish. I was always with the outcasts in high school, too...all four years in fact. I even preferred it that way. After I failed to fit in and some certain anxiety issues starting to get bad, I wanted nothing to do with popularity.
I know what you mean. I knew you meant you have Irish in your blood, not actually being a person living there. That's what I meant about being half Irish, too. My dad's blood is pure Irish and my mom's is mixed but she doesn't have any Irish in her, so that means I'm half Irish. I also have distant relatives living there. It sounds like a nice place to visit.
Don't worry, I understand. Take as much time as you need. Is that so? Well, enjoy your time with him and your family.
He was Hacker?! I never noticed...though I haven't watched that show since I was a kid. I had only seen Back to the Future for the first time when I was about 15. I was lucky to have basic cable as a kid, but my close friends didn't. They lived off of PBS Kids, too. XD By the way, I just found out ALL 3 Back to the Future movies were put on Netflix! Even though I have them on Blu-Ray, I feel like Netflix is more convenient. The first one is playing in the background as I type this! XD
The gifted program worked the same way at my elementary school. I wasn't in it though because despite being bright, I didn't have the thought process of a gifted child or something. At my school, they mostly chose left brained kids for it so I think that's why. Having to make up work must have sucked since you just did a whole day's worth on top of it, but at least you had fun in your gifted class. You were lucky and 150 pages?! Wow! I had no fun at all in high school. I always had so much work and barely any time for fun or even hobbies at all. Even when I did, I was too tired to do anything. I am making sure that NEVER happens again. Of course college is probably stressful, but most people I've talked to that have been before say it's better than high school. You're welcome! I'm so glad you got it to work!
I love using Sai to draw because of the stabilizer. It gives you such smooth lines!
Thanks!
You make some great points! I never thought of it that way, but I agree with you! I think they both would prefer understanding and support to someone trying to cheer them up, too. I think even the scene between Jack and North after Sandy 'died' can kind of prove that, too...right? North gave Jack reassurance, not try to make him happier. Am I remembering that correctly? If you were wondering, I saw the comment by a Jack x Anna fan that he needs someone more optimistic to cheer him up. They also said two people with the same flaw (depression issues) wouldn't work out because they wouldn't benefit each other. I don't see Jack and Violet being that way, though. I think their understanding of each other's feelings would bring them closer and they would grow together. I even see that as a reason they would fall in love with each other. They are a pretty good pairing. I feel like their similarities and differences are in the right places, unlike Jelsa. That's an example of opposites that don't attract.
