I should draw 4 legged mechs as cool as this more often.
And hinging the vertical joint pieces by one stud is something I wish I had tried back in the day.
I like this more than the Star Wars 4 legged droids.

Every so often a four leg design comes to mind and I usually just go with it. The one stud hinge works quite well for articulation as long as it's allowed clearance to swing, and the plates above and below are locked in place well.

That's my thoughts exactly on the one hinge stud.
The largest obstacle with making four legged things from the system blocks rather than the bionicle ones was not having enough joint pieces.
